Strengthening agriculture sector through TVET for food security

KUALA KUBU BHARU: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called for the strengthening of Malaysia's agricultural sector through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to curb the nation's dependence on food imports.
He emphasised that this approach is crucial for achieving food security, particularly in the dairy industry, to meet domestic demand.
As Minister of Rural and Regional Development and Chairman of the National TVET Council, Ahmad Zahid stated that the council is ready to support and collaborate with agricultural training institutions nationwide.
He highlighted the need for high-tech courses, including the integration of Internet of Things (IoT) and modern teaching methods, to attract youth participation.
'Learning should comprise only 30% classroom sessions, with the remaining 70% conducted in the field to provide hands-on agricultural exposure,' he said during a press conference after launching the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation's (PKPS) Ehsan Dairy Farm project.
Ahmad Zahid also proposed premium salaries for TVET graduates in agriculture, suggesting that they should earn significantly more than the minimum wage of RM1,700 to make the sector more appealing.
Graduates with a Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) Level Three could earn at least RM3,000 monthly, while those with SKM Level Five qualifications, equivalent to a diploma, could command salaries of up to RM5,000.
He described the Ehsan Dairy Farm as a transformative initiative for PKPS, aimed at boosting local dairy production and reducing Malaysia's heavy reliance on imports.
Malaysia currently imports 94.7% of its dairy needs, costing RM4.6 million annually.
The farm, set to operate by early 2026, will span 16.7 hectares at the Sungai Tengi PKPS Farm and house over 1,200 high-quality Jersey-Holstein Friesian dairy cows imported from Australia.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and PKPS Group CEO Datuk Dr Mohamad Khairil Mohamad Razi were also present at the event. – Bernama

Malaysia launches world's first syariah-compliant AI app

KUALA LUMPUR: The launch of NurAI, the world's first syariah-compliant application, is a technological solution to address factual inaccuracies related to Islamic fatwas and rulings that are often conveyed through artificial intelligence (AI) content on Western platforms. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi (pic)said NurAI, which is based on the Large Language Model concept and developed entirely based on Islamic values, not only processes language but also understands manners, preserves the law and upholds the cultural dignity of Muslims. Ahmad Zahid, who officiated the launch, also said the application took into account that most AI systems are developed in the West 'but the values and priorities they bring are not necessarily in line with our way of life and aspirations,' Bernama reported. 'In fact, there are studies that have found that there are AI content related to Islam on Western platforms that contain bias or factual inaccuracies, thus presenting a negative image of our religion and culture. 'We have witnessed how AI systems give answers that contradict syariah principles when asked about Islamic financial law or quote unauthentic sources when discussing aqidah issues. This is a gap that we must close and InsyaAllah, I am confident that NurAI can do it,' he said. Ahmad Zahid added that this shift is not only a symbol of innovation, but also serves as an instrument of technological diplomacy in positioning Malaysia as a leader in syariah-compliant AI. 'It also opens the door to strategic cooperation with Asean countries and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, thus strengthening Malaysia's influence on the international stage. 'Make this platform the basis for shaping the thinking of the community, answering questions about halal and haram, providing guidance on zakat and faraid, providing syariah-compliant investment advice openly and ultimately guiding the community based on true and recognised Islamic disciplines,' he said. Ahmad Zahid hoped that the launch of NurAI would mark the start of a major movement involving the entire national ecosystem.

Syariah-compliant AI launched

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia aims to lead the world in syariah-compliant artificial intelligence (AI) with the launch of NurAI, the first syariah-compliant large language model, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. He said NurAI builds on Malaysia's strengths as a global leader in halal certification, Islamic finance and syariah scholarship, positioning the nation to become a trusted digitalisation hub for the Islamic world. 'With consistent, strategic steps, Malaysia can lead in syariah-compliant AI, a field that will shape the future of the ummah, built on values and guided by divine revelation,' he said at the launch by Zetrix AI Bhd yesterday. He said the homegrown platform would safeguard Islamic principles while advancing national technological ambitions. 'We all know the 21st century is the Century of Data. Whoever controls data controls the narrative, whoever controls the narrative controls the future.' Ahmad Zahid said NurAI, developed entirely on Islamic values, goes beyond processing language to uphold adab (proper etiquette), respect the law and elevate Muslim culture. He said most AI systems are developed in the West or other major powers where priorities often do not align with Islamic principles, and cited studies showing bias or inaccuracies in online content about Islam. 'This risk arises when fatwa and rulings are quoted inaccurately or when subtle negative portrayals are embedded. There have been cases where AI contradicted syariah principles or cited unauthentic sources on aqidah. This is the gap we must close.' He outlined plans for a Global Syariah AI Reference Centre, AI integration in Islamic education, applications for mosque administration, zakat management, Quran teaching and international research collaborations grounded in Islamic values.

Key Asic secures 21 more international patents

PETALING JAYA: Key Asic Bhd has secured 21 granted patents across key international jurisdictions, including the United States, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Malaysia and Singapore. The company, a specialist in advanced application-specific integrated circuit (Asic) and system-on-chip (SoC) design solutions, reported that in addition, 19 more patent applications are pending approval, which it said underscores its innovative drive. In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Key Asic said the patents spanned critical advancements in Internet of Things (IoT), storage technologies, wireless security, and intellectual properties (IPs) – essential building blocks for high-performance and power-efficient chips. It pointed out that such IPs are a tangible revenue engine, on top of being a badge of technical prowess. Historically, the group said the portfolio had generated income through diverse channels: licensing agreements with global semiconductor giants, technology transfer, joint development projects, embedded IP sales integrated into comprehensive Asic and SoC contracts. 'The patents cover cutting-edge advancements in IoT, storage technologies, wireless security, and analog IPs – core components that enable high-performance, power-efficient Asics and SoCs,' the company said. It added that the IPs had allowed it to customise solutions for clients, contributing significantly to revenue.
