Reporting on the success of the operation, police spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane stated:
'We arrested 14 illegal immigrants, one suspect for possession of drugs, and another for possession of an unlicensed firearm. Additionally, two illegal shebeens were closed down, and 10 AARTO fines amounting to R5,000 were issued.'
Sergeant Mokhachane also confirmed that 750 individuals were searched, 360 vehicles were inspected withc12 of them undergoing further testing, and 14 identified premises were raided.
'Malls, ATMs, spaza shops, taxi ranks, and second-hand goods stores were visited, and one stolen vehicle was recovered,' she added.

Law Society's criminal law committee chairperson, William Booth, said parents who wish to take legal action against the academy could be compensated due to the fact that return tickets were never booked. 'My view is that at least theft and or fraud would be applicable in this instance. Then what laws or regulations does the academy appear to have violated? "Well, look, obviously the common law of theft or fraud, and then you've got laws possibly in terms of the Immigration Act and the Child Justice Act.'

No raid conducted at Dudu Myeni's house: police call out fake social media post

Police have dismissed claims the national intervention unit (NIU) raided the KwaZulu-Natal home of the late former SAA chair Dudu Myeni. This comes after a social media post claimed: 'The NIU raided Dudu Myeni's house and allegedly found R18m in a safe.' Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said no raid was conducted. 'The SA Police Service (SAPS) warns against the spread of fake news about a NIU raid in which R18m was found in a safe at a house in Richards Bay. 'The SAPS calls for responsible social media reporting and for users to verify information before sharing. 'No raid was undertaken by any unit.' Myeni died in 2024 after battling cancer. She served on the SAA board from 2009 until 2017, while Jacob Zuma was president, and was its chair for the last five of those years. Her role at SAA was marred by fraud and corruption allegations stemming from the commission of inquiry into state capture and she was said to have been instrumental in the crippling of the airline. She allegedly received R300,000 from Bosasa, supposedly for the Jacob Zuma Foundation.

South African man jailed for attempting to smuggle stolen Toyota Hilux to Zimbabwe

Jonisayi Maromo | Published 1 week ago A 34-year-old man, Solomon Chiloane, has appeared before the Mokopane Magistrate's Court in Limpopo, after he was arrested for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle. The case against Chiloane was postponed to 29 July 2025 for further investigations, while he was remanded in custody. Chiloane was arrested after police in Limpopo received information about a stolen Toyota Hilux bakkie. The vehicle was reported stolen on Saturday around the Lyttleton policing area in Tshwane. 'On Monday, information was received about the bakkie that was reportedly driven from Gauteng province along the R101 public road headed to Limpopo province,' said provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba. The Limpopo anti-smuggling task team and private security companies sprang into action and a joint operation was activated. The bakkie was positively spotted entering the town of Mokopane, and it was intercepted and searched. 'A 34-year-old male driver could not provide a satisfactory response about the origin of the white Toyota Hilux bakkie, valued at more than R700,000, and was immediately placed under arrest on the spot for possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle,' said Ledwaba. 'Preliminary investigations revealed that the bakkie was intended to be illegally smuggled to Zimbabwe.' Police in Limpopo said they have established that Chiloane is a South African national. Meanwhile, the provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed Chiloane's arrest and the recovery of the stolen vehicle. 'This collaboration between police and private security has proven from time to time that working jointly we can achieve more in combating the organized syndicate targeting vehicle smuggling,' said Hadebe. On Tuesday, IOL reported that a 48-year-old Zimbabwean man, Stephen Nyoni, has been remanded in custody after appearing in a Limpopo court for possessing a stolen vehicle. The high-performance luxury sport utility vehicle, valued at over R2.5 million, was intercepted during a targeted anti-smuggling operation. The anti-crime blitz was conducted by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Limpopo in collaboration with private security partners along the N1 highway near Polokwane.
