General Motors: History, innovation, and legacy
Learn about the rich history and notable innovations of General Motors, from its founding in 1908 to its leadership in electric and autonomous vehicle technology.
There are over 13 million GM Rewards members.
GM has had a branded credit card since 1992.
The new credit card will include chances to earn toward member-exclusive experiences – such as trackside access at racing events and off-the-grid EV excursions.
Taking cues from the travel industry, General Motors plans to relaunch its credit card under a new lender and change how points can be accrued and used on automotive purchases.
The new card provides customers more ways to earn and redeem GM Rewards points on new vehicles, services, parts and accessories, according to the company. And starting May 20, GM employees, retirees, dealership employees and suppliers eligible for vehicle discounts will be able to use GM Rewards points on top of that discount.
The card allows customers to earn up to 10 times the points on eligible GM purchases, broken down by seven times the points for every $1 spent when using the GM Rewards Mastercard, plus up to three times the points for being a GM Rewards member. All other purchases qualify for three times the points, which GM said can also be redeemed on GM Financial account balances.
The automaker has more than 13 million GM Rewards members, the company said. GM has had a branded credit card since 1992.

Changing rewards, adding ways to earn
Members of the company rewards program on average purchase vehicles with 5% higher manufacturer-suggested retail prices than nonmembers, visit GM dealerships twice as often as nonmembers and typically repurchase GM vehicles almost three years sooner than a nonmember, according to Ralph Darmo, head of GM Rewards.
'The value of those members is why GM has made the decision to invest in those members,' Darmo said. 'We're making the program better.'
Prior to joining GM, Darmo managed the Delta SkyMiles credit card and then managed the GM credit card when it was branded with Goldman Sachs.
One of the main changes is simplifying the program, streamlining the various separate branded rewards to one, Darmo said. Instead of Cadillac Rewards, Chevy Rewards, Buick Rewards, GMC Rewards and My Rewards, starting May 20, all of that will be lumped into My Rewards.
Details of changes to GM rewards
The goal is to improve the experience for dealerships as well as customers, Darmo said, because of the confusion over whether or not a GMC Rewards member could apply points on a Buick purchase, for example.
'You will get more points when you buy GM under the new program. We're also removing some of the restrictions — there won't be earn caps, there's no redemption caps, there's no exclusion on vehicles anymore, and the points are universal — the points can be used across all GM brands for a new GM vehicle or a certified pre-owned vehicle,' he said.
In addition, Darmo said GM rewards points can be shared not just with another member at your address; points can be transferred to any other GM Rewards member regardless of where they live.
The GM Rewards loyalty program now works through GM Rewards Mastercard, serviced by Barclays US Consumer Bank. The Delaware-based bank has a broad portfolio of co-branded credit cards including JetBlue, Old Navy, Gap, Frontier Airlines and Carnival Cruise Lines.
In addition to purchases at GM dealerships, the credit card also allows customers to gain and redeem points on digital services like most OnStar plans and Super Cruise, the hands-free driver assistance technology. Eventually, GM hopes to ensure the points can be used on electric-vehicle charging costs.
Existing cardmembers should use them until Aug. 25, GM said, and can expect their new, replacement Barclays cards later this summer, along with activation instructions.
Darmo also added that the card includes member-exclusive experiences — such as trackside access at racing events and off-the-grid EV excursions.
Later this year, GM and Barclays plan to launch the GM Business Mastercard, specifically for business customers, with a higher earn rate on GM purchases and expanded redemption options.

2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV Review, Pricing, and Specs
Overview Chevy's entry-level electric offering isn't the most exciting EV out there, but it meets the needs of folks who want a compact crossover with a plug. You'll get the best range with the 220-hp front-wheel-drive powertrain, but it leaves a bit to be desired in terms of acceleration. Go for all-wheel drive, and you get 300 hp and a 307-mile range, which should be plenty for normal daily use and won't have you stopping too often on road trips. And if you opt for GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving system, you'll arrive that much more refreshed. For a more exciting electric Chevy SUV, check out the larger Blazer EV. What's New for 2026? There are few changes for the Equinox EV this year, but a Midnight appearance package is now available on LT models and includes black wheels and dark exterior trim. Mid-range RS trims can now be had in a monotone paint scheme instead of being locked into having a black roof. Polar White Tricoat replaces Iridescent Pearl Tricoat on the options sheet and all models now come with a dual level charging cable. Pricing and Which One to Buy The price of the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV is expected to start around $35,000 and go up to $49,000 depending on the trim and options. LT FWD $35,000 (est) LT AWD $41,000 (est) RS FWD $45,000 (est) RS AWD $49,000 (est) 0 $10k $20k $30k $40k $50k $60k $70k $80k The base price of LT FWD is tempting, but we'd make sure to check the box for the more powerful all-wheel-drive powertrain. Then we'd add the Comfort and Active Safety 2 packages, as that gets you heated front seats, a 360-degree camera system, and a handful of driver-assistance features. Want to compare the 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV to other vehicles you're interested in? Our new compare tool provides a comprehensive, side-by-side look at up to five cars of your choice. Compare Cars EV Motor, Power, and Performance Front-wheel-drive Equinox EVs come with a single electric motor that makes 220 horsepower; opting for the dual-motor all-wheel-drive system ups the power to 300 ponies. The front-wheel-drive powertrain doesn't exhibit the same kind of immediate thrust that's typical of electric motors, and we found it sluggish in our drive of the Equinox EV. We recommend the all-wheel-drive setup, which is significantly more potent and gives the Equinox EV a more energetic demeanor. Ride quality is comfortable, the steering is well-weighted, and we like that you can select from among multiple levels of regenerative braking, including a one-pedal driving mode. 0–60-MPH Times At our test track, the front-wheel-drive Equinox EV put down a 60-mph time of 7.7 seconds, which is comparable to gas-powered compact-SUV competitors. The all-wheel-drive model was significantly quicker, getting to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds. View Photos Michael Simari | Car and Driver Range, Charging, and Battery Life All Equinox EV models have the same size battery pack, although the range estimates vary depending on powertrain configuration. Front-wheel-drive models offer up to 319 miles of range per EPA estimates, while the all-wheel-drive version drops that down to 307 miles. In our real-world 75-mph highway range test, both versions of the Equinox EV delivered a result of 260 miles, which we think comes down to the different wheels and tires on our test cars. All models come with DC fast-charging capability, which Chevrolet says can add 70 miles of range to the battery in as little as 10 minutes. Fuel Economy and Real-World MPGe The EPA hasn't released any fuel economy information for the 2026 Equinox EV yet, but the 2025 model earned ratings of 109 MPGe combined for the front-wheel-drive model and up to 103 MPGe combined for the all-wheel-drive version. In our 75-mph real-world highway fuel-economy test of the all-wheel-drive Equinox EV, we recorded a result of 91 MPGe, slightly beating the EPA's 88 MPGe highway estimate. MPGe stands for miles per gallon of gas equivalent, an EPA metric that estimates PHEV and EV vehicle fuel efficiency. For more information about the Equinox EV's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo At 57 cubic feet with the rear seat stowed, the Equinox EV's cargo capacity isn't quite as capacious as the gasoline-powered model's, but the rest of the interior feels about as roomy. Inside, buyers will find a digital dashboard similar to that of the Silverado EV as well as a large 17.7-inch touchscreen in the center of the dashboard. Base models are fairly basic and lack even power-adjustable front seats, but moving up to the higher LT trims or RS models unlocks plenty of features, including heated seats, power seats, a sunroof, and dual-zone climate control. Opt for an RS and you can order the saucy Adrenaline Red interior theme. View Photos Michael Simari | Car and Driver Infotainment and Connectivity Every Equinox EV comes with an 11.0-inch digital gauge display with a 17.7-inch secondary touchscreen for infotainment. Unfortunately, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone-mirroring capabilities are not offered, but the infotainment system does include built-in apps such as Google Maps and Spotify, and uplevel models get in-dash navigation and an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot. Safety and Driver-Assistance Features All models ship with basic driver-assistance features as standard, including automated emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlamps, and lane-keeping assist. For buyers seeking the most up-to-date tech, the Equinox EV is offered with GM's Super Cruise hands-free driving system. For more information about the Equinox EV's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include: Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist Available adaptive cruise control with hands-free driving mode Warranty and Maintenance Coverage Chevrolet provides standard coverage limits for the Equinox EV's electric powertrain components. It also includes the first maintenance visit, but overall coverage doesn't come close to that of the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles Electric components are covered for eight years or 100,000 miles Complimentary maintenance is covered for the first visit Specifications Specifications 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV 3RS Vehicle Type: front-motor, front-wheel-drive, 5-passenger, 4-door wagon PRICE Base/As Tested: $46,795/$50,995 Options: Active Safety Package 3 (Super Cruise and enhanced automatic parking assist), $2700; sunroof, $1500 POWERTRAIN Motor: permanent-magnet synchronous AC Power: 213 hp Torque: 236 lb-ft Battery Pack: liquid-cooled lithium-ion, 85.0 kWh Onboard Charger: 11.5 kW Peak DC Fast-Charge Rate: 150 kW Transmission: direct-drive CHASSIS Suspension, F/R: struts/multilink Brakes, F/R: 12.6-in vented disc/12.4-in vented disc Tires: Continental CrossContact RX ContiSeal 275/40R-21 107H M+S TPC3201 DIMENSIONS Wheelbase: 116.3 in Length: 190.6 in Width: 76.9 in Height: 64.8 in Passenger Volume, F/R: 55/47 ft3 Cargo Volume, behind F/R: 57/26 ft3 Curb Weight: 4923 lb C/D TEST RESULTS 60 mph: 7.7 sec 1/4-Mile: 16.1 sec @ 87 mph 100 mph: 22.4 sec Results above omit 1-ft rollout of 0.3 sec. GMC Hummer EV Quietly Loses Apple CarPlay For 2026
The latest car news, reviews, and features. GM wasn't kidding around, it has no interest in an Apple CarPlay future, at least not in its EVs. Buried in the 2026 GMC Hummer EV fleet vehicle order guides is a nugget of news that the hulking electric SUV and truck will lose wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support. Pour one out for smartphone mirroring and actual Apple Music onscreen interface usage. The Drive reached out to GM for comment and will update this story if or when we hear back. The GMC Hummer EV launched for the 2022 model year at the tail end of 2021. The SUV variant arrived in 2023. Both versions launched with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The end was in sight not long after. In 2023, just two months after the SUV model went into production, GM announced its new EVs would not have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto starting in 2024. Predictably, consumers were not amused and the people want Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. GM has claimed all along this is about the user experience and not having to flip in and out of various interfaces. It's the same argument Rivian and Tesla have used throughout, through, notably, those two automakers have eschewed the usage of buttons and have almost all controls locked into the onscreen interface. It's a key difference. Also different: Both Tesla and Rivian have natively integrated the Apple Music app, among others while not relying on the Google Play store. At the time of the announcement in 2023, then Executive Director of Digital Cockpit Experience Mike Hermiche told Reuters, 'we have a lot of new driver assistance features coming that are more tightly coupled with navigation.' Hermiche also said, 'we don't want to design these features in a way that are dependent on a person having a cellphone.' To date, these features had yet to appear. For 2026 GM's Super Cruiser hands-free driver-assist system is said to integrate with Google Maps to navigate the correct lane for a chosen route . GM's latest infotainment systems run on Android Automotive OS, which also has the Google Store built in for native apps such as Spotify and Pandora. The system also features built-in navigation via Google Maps. Bluetooth streaming works, but is a mess with Apple Music. The rollout of moving away from Apple CarPlay has been a little messy. The Hummer EVs launched with CarPlay as did the Cadillac Lyriq, the latter of which we don't know what 2026 will bring, yet. While the Lyriq's cousins, the Chevrolet Blazer EV and Equinox EV arrived without CarPlay, ironically, the Honda Prologue and Acura ZDX, both of which are reskinned Blazer and Lyriq twins, launched with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Consumers wanted CarPlay in their Blazer EV so badly an aftermarket solution was whipped up. GM claimed it was 'unauthorized' and 'could affect critical safety features.' The automaker shut the retrofit kit down. The 2026 GMC Hummer will lose the CarPlay and Android Auto, but it's gaining King Crab mode, which GM said all Hummer EVs will get thanks to an over-the-air software update. The King Crab model is said to turn the rear wheel faster than the front wheels for extra maneuverability in tight spaces. Though, this will only be standard on the 2X and 3X trims. The new Carbon Fiber Edition Pickup is even quicker then the already quick Hummer EVs thanks to revised software dropping the 0-60 mph sprint to 2.8 seconds. Got a tip? Send us a note: tips@
