This week is turning out to be a pretty memorable one for ESPN host and reporter Laura Rutledge.
Rutledge started her ESPN career in 2014 as a SEC reporter. She was eventually named the host of "NFL Live" in June 2020. While she'll continue to host that show during the 2025 season, she'll also have to carve out time in her schedule for an elevated role on "Monday Night Football."
It was reported on Tuesday that Rutledge will join Troy Aikman, Joe Buck and Lisa Salters for every "Monday Night Football" game this season.
"Rutledge, now a two-time Emmy recipient as the host of NFL Live and reporting for SEC on ABC, has joined Buck, Aikman and Salters for marquee MNF regular season games and ESPN's Wild Card and Divisional playoff games for the past few seasons, sharing the sidelines with Salters more than a dozen times," ESPN's press release states. "In those same seasons, Rutledge was the sideline reporter with Fowler, Orlovsky, and Riddick for select MNF dual game weeks. This season, in addition to appearing on MNF each week, fans will continue to see Rutledge host NFL Live and SEC Nation on Saturday mornings."
Instead of celebrating her promotion, Rutledge showed love to her "Monday Night Football" teammates.
"Congratulations to Lisa who continues to set the standard in our business. Class, talent and professionalism personified," Rutledge wrote on X. "So excited for you two, Katie George and Peter Schrager."
Just a few hours after landing this promotion, Rutledge hopped on the set of "NFL Live" to conduct her usual role. She wore a dress that clearly grabbed people's attention.
"Goodness, Laura. You look amazing," one fan wrote on X.
"Wow, Laura. Also congrats on the MNF gig," another fan said.
"Ok Laura has definitely been in the gym. Great job," a third fan commented.
It's safe to say Rutledge is a fan favorite at ESPN.
Football fans will get to see plenty of Rutledge this fall due to her roles on "NFL Live" and "Monday Night Football."
The NFL season officially begins on Sept. 4 when the Philadelphia Eagles host the Dallas Cowboys.

Unexpected Colorado News Surfaced After AP Top 25 Poll Released

Unexpected Colorado News Surfaced After AP Top 25 Poll Released originally appeared on Athlon Sports. With the college football season kicking off on Aug. 23, fans were able to argue over new rankings on Monday, as the AP announced its preseason top 25 poll. As it has in the past, the SEC led the way with 10 teams in the rankings, including four teams featured in the top 10. The Big Ten featured six teams in the rankings, with three teams in the top 10, while the Big 12 had four teams in the rankings and the ACC had just three. Although there were four Big 12 teams in the rankings, one team that had a strong 2024 season not featured was Deion Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes. Despite coming off a 9-4 season in 2024, the Buffs lost two of the best players in college football in quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. With them off to the NFL, the expectation around college football is for Colorado to take a step back; however, there was a bit of a surprising development when it comes to the Buffs. Unexpected Colorado AP Poll Development Despite losing both the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year (Sanders) and Heisman Trophy winner (Hunter), the Buffs were one of the teams to receive a vote. Joined by the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns, Colorado was just one of two teams to receive a single vote with programs such as Army (2), Pitt (3) and TCU (4) among others racking up more. Colorado's Transfer Portal Method Being Put to the Test According to ESPN, Colorado returns just 50% of its total production from a year ago, with the offensive side of the ball likely seeing plenty of new faces with just 44% of its production returning. The Buffs will be replacing their entire receiving corps, as LaJohntay Wester (Baltimore Ravens) and Jimmy Horn Jr. (Carolina Panthers) joined Hunter in being drafted, while Will Sheppard (Green Bay Packers) was signed as an undrafted free agent. Colorado is also expected to field just one returning starter on the offensive line in Jordan Seaton, as it brought in nine transfers and a couple more recruits. Colorado Can Continue Success from 2024, But Will Need to Hit on Transfers With notable transfer additions such as Liberty Flames quarterback Kaidon Salter and Memphis Tigers offensive lineman Xavier Hill expected to lead the charge for Sanders in 2025, the Buffs do have proven commodities who can come in and play. With that being said, Sanders' heavy reliance on the transfer portal will be put to the test again. With so much turnover, thanks to the fact that they bring in 30+ transfers per year, it remains to be seen how sustainable this method can be. In his first two seasons at Colorado, Sanders has gone 13-12, but has shown glimpses of brilliance. With Colorado making him one of the highest-paid coaches in college football this offseason, all eyes will be on the Buffs again to see if they were a flash in the pan or a sign of things to come. Colorado opens the season at home at 8 p.m. ET Aug. 29 with a matchup against the Georgia Tech Yellow story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 11, 2025, where it first appeared.

ESPN Touts Caitlin Clark's Actions Before Fever-Wings Game

ESPN Touts Caitlin Clark's Actions Before Fever-Wings Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For Fever star Caitlin Clark, 2025 has been a season of firsts, and not necessarily in a good way. She missed a preseason game with a minor quad problem that, it turns out, should have been a red flag--Clark has not been healthy for a significant stretch of this WNBA season since. She played the first week of the WNBA season, then missed three weeks. Clark played for 10 days, then missed two more weeks. Finally, Clark came back for a week in early July, just before Indiana was to host the WNBA All-Star game, and got injured again. This time, it is her right groin that is the problem, and it's been a full four weeks since she last took the floor. Still, Clark--who had never missed a game in the WNBA or in college before this season-- has tried to stay engaged with her teammates and, perhaps more important, with the fans. That was again the case on Tuesday when the Fever played Dallas at home, a game televised on ESPN. Clark was still in civvies, but ESPN highlighted her before the game, putting in her time with fans signing autographs. "Caitlin Clark is for the fans," the post read. Caitlin Clark: 'I Do Feel This Responsibility' That's been important for Clark throughout her injury ordeal this season. She has appeared in only 13 games, but she understands that, for better or worse, she is the face of the new WNBA and a big part of the reason attention on the league has surged. It may be unfair, but Clark has graciously said she has an obligation to do what she can for fans who paid to see her play, not to sit in street clothes. "It's hard, because obviously I do feel this responsibility of being out there and playing," Clark told Sue Bird on her "Bird's Eye View" podcast. Clark explained, she does not think the WNBA revolves around her, but that she does feel she wants to give paying customers a show: "And not that I think there's a fear of any of this going away. That doesn't happen when like, LeBron or Steph get hurt. [Fans] are always going to be there. But you do want to play, you want to give people something to cheer about or scream about." There is no timetable for Clark's return, though the team has been upbeat about the possibility. Still, there are now only 11 games on the Fever's remaining slate, meaning there is a distinct possibility Clark will not play again this year.
