"Security personnel might have broken the room door assuming that she might be alive and needed immediate medical care. Pak court sentences Punjab farmer to jail, orders deportation to India after it
1 2 Bathinda: Twenty-three-year-old Punjab farmer Amritpal Singh , who had inadvertently crossed into Pakistani territory from his fields on Zero Line, has been sentenced to a month's imprisonment each under two offences and fined Rs 50,000 for each offence by a court in Chunian, Pakistan. Non-payment of fines will keep him in Pakistan prison for 15 days more on each count. Both sentences will run concurrently. Amritpal is lodged in Kasur district jail. The court also wrote to the Pakistan ministry of interior to arrange for his deportation to India after completion of sentence. The farmer's family in Khere Ke Uttar village of Ferozepur, right next to the Pakistan border, is praying for his safe return. Amritpal is married and has an infant son. Amritpal's father Jagraj Singh told TOI that he has got the Pakistan court's conviction papers and the letter to the interior ministry to deport him. "I am writing to Indian authorities to ensure Amritpal is deported upon completion of his sentence without any delay," he said. The Rs 1-lakh fine in Pakistan currency works out to nearly Rs 31,000 in India. This is an offence punishable under Section 4 of The Pakistan (Control of Entry) Act 1952 — though wrongly mentioned in the FIR as section 3 of The Pakistan (Control of Entry) Act 1952 and Section 14 of The Foreigner Act 1946. On July 28, the court of civil judge class-1, Nasar Mehmood Gondal, convicted Amritpal. His family and Indian officials are trying to ensure that they get him back safely on the completion of his one-month jail term. Punjab VB raids premises of former SAD leader soon after he joins BJP
Mohali: The officials of the Punjab vigilance bureau (VB) on Saturday conducted searches at the premises of former Akali leader and prominent realtor Ranjit Singh Gill in Chandigarh and Mohali. However, no official statement regarding the operation was issued by the VB. On the other hand, BJP leader Subhash Sharma defended Gill, criticising the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP govt for "vindictive politics". The searches followed Gill's joining of the BJP on Friday. On Saturday morning, VB sleuths carried out raids at Gill's residence in Chandigarh and his office in Kharar, Mohali. Officials also seized documents from his office for further examination. As the news of the VB raids on Gill's premises spread, the BJP Mohali district team held a protest against the Bhagwant Mann-led government and submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner's representative. BJP district president Sanjeev Vashisht alleged that Ranjit Singh Gill, who was being pressured by the Bhagwant Mann government to join the Aam Aadmi Party, decided to join the BJP instead.
