Last week, 31 Naxalites were killed in the biggest-ever operation on the Karreguttalu Hill (KGH) at the Chhattisgarh-Telangana
At least 26 Naxals were killed in an encounter with security forces in the Maad region of Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh, officials confirmed on Wednesday. Several senior Naxal cadres including a top Naxal leader are suspected to have been eliminated in the operation which has been ongoing for more than 50 hours.
A joint operation was launched in the Abujhmad area based on intelligence about a senior Maoist cadre from the Maad Division. District Reserve Guards (DRG) teams from Narayanpur, Dantewada, Bijapur and Kondagaon have been engaged in an ongoing encounter.
Last week, 31 Naxalites were killed in the biggest-ever operation on the Karreguttalu Hill (KGH) at the Chhattisgarh-Telangana. The Chhattisgarh Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) recovered the bodies of 31 uniformed Naxalites, including 16 female Naxalites in uniform, and 35 weapons after 21 encounters that took place over 21 days on the Karreguttalu Hill (KGH), which was considered an impregnable stronghold of Naxalites on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border.
The anti-Naxal operation, which took place from April 21, 2025, to May 11, 2025, indicates that the bodies recovered from the encounter site might belong to cadres of the banned, illegal, and most powerful armed Naxal organization, the PLGA Battalion, CRC Company, and the Telangana State Committee.

Los Angeles mayor imposes overnight curfew on downtown after violence escalates
Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass on Tuesday declared an overnight curfew in the downtown area following several nights of unrest and vandalism, AFP reported. 'I have declared a local emergency and issued a curfew for downtown Los Angeles to stop the vandalism, to stop the looting,' Karen Bass told reporters. She added that the curfew can be expected to last several days, according to Reuters. The protests, which began in Los Angeles in response to immigration enforcement raids and led President Donald Trump to deploy National Guard troops and Marines, are now spreading across the country. Demonstrations have erupted in cities such as Seattle, Austin, Chicago, and Washington, D.C., with marchers chanting slogans, holding anti-ICE signs, and blocking traffic near federal buildings. While many protests have remained peaceful, some have turned tense, with clashes between protesters and police involving arrests and the use of chemical agents. Protests have also been reported in New York City, San Francisco, and Santa Ana, where demonstrators confronted law enforcement after local immigration raids. Activists are planning more widespread demonstrations in the coming days, including 'No Kings' events nationwide on Saturday, to coincide with Trump's scheduled military parade in Washington.
