Hrithik Roshan recalls how Salman Khan's open gym doors and late-night calls helped him train for his double role in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai.
When Hrithik Roshan was gearing up for his first big-screen outing in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, he wanted to make sure everything looked perfect – especially his physique. What followed was an unexpected late-night fitness routine with none other than Salman Khan. And when Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai hit cinemas in 2000, Hrithik Roshan became an overnight sensation. Audiences were struck by his charm, dance moves – and that perfectly chiselled physique.

Back then, Hrithik was 26 and about to take on a double role in the romantic drama directed by his father, Rakesh Roshan. The pressure was on. 'I knew the physicality was very important, especially for this film where I was doing a double role, Rohit in the first part and Raj in the second half. I thought it would be nice if I could, even physically show the difference between the two characters. So, I was training myself for a year but I was not seeing the kind of results I wanted to see," Hrithik said in an old interview.
Hrithik Roshan called the 'biggest star' for help
Determined to push his limits, Hrithik decided to reach out to Salman Khan – even though they barely knew each other. 'I did everything that I could, including calling the biggest star Salman Khan, who did not know me at all. I just asked myself who is the best in the business, it is Salman and I said, 'I have to try this. I have to try asking him what you do.'"
Late-night workouts and open gym doors to train for Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai
Hrithik later revealed on Bigg Boss that Salman didn't just give advice – he handed him the keys to his gym. Salman even called at 2 AM inviting him for training sessions. Though hesitant at first, Hrithik joined in, and those workouts played a key role in his transformation for the film.

Now, decades later, both stars are still at the top of their game. Hrithik will next be seen in War 2 with Jr NTR and Kiara Advani, hitting cinemas on 14 August. Salman was last seen in Sikandar and will return to TV with Bigg Boss 19, alongside shooting for Battle of Galwan.
