The wife and son of a Pahalgam victim have spoken out after India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting nine 'terrorist infrastructure" sites as a retaliation for the attack on civilians that claimed 26 lives. Sangita Ganbote from Pune, who lost her husband Kaustubh Ganbote in the April 22 attack, labelled the strike as a 'befitting reply', while her son shared that they were waiting for such action from the Indian government. 'Kaustubh Ganbote lost his life in the #PahalgamTerrorAttack. In Pune, his wife, Sangita Ganbote, says, "The action taken by the military is good, and by naming it as Operation Sindoor, they have respected the women. I still cry some days. We were waiting for PM Modi to take such action, and he has given them a befitting reply. Terrorists should be eliminated..." ANI wrote while sharing a video of an interview with Ganbote.
In another post, ANI shared, 'In Pune, his son Kunal Ganbote says, "...We all were waiting for such action to be taken, and we have this hope from the Indian government. The name of the operation is 'sindoor' and I think it was named this way to respect women like my mother..."
In the early hours of Wednesday, India carried out a targeted strike 'hitting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir from where terrorist attacks against India have been planned and directed,' PIB said in a statement. A total of nine sites were targeted. The statement further clarified that 'No Pakistani military facilities' were hit, adding, 'India has demonstrated considerable restraint in selection of targets and method of execution.' ‘They only see potholes in Mumbai, their whole state….': Raj Thackeray's fresh barb

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray on Thursday took an indirect jibe at migrants, saying that 'those who come to Mumbai from other states' can only see potholes in the city. File photo: MNS Chief Raj Thackeray addressing a joint rally in Mumbai in June. (@ShivSenaUBT_ X/ANI Photo)(ShivSena - शिवसेना) The Raj Thackeray made the remark after his meeting with Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis at latter's official residence in south Mumbai over what the MNS chief claimed was over civic issues, concerning Mumbai and other cities. Without naming anyone, Thackeray said that that those who to other states see potholes in Mumbai, but don't see that their 'whole state is a hole'. "People who are coming to Mumbai from other states only see potholes in the city. But what they don't see is that their whole state is a hole," Raj Thackeray said after the meeting, according to ANI. The meeting between the MNS leader and the BJP leader came a day after the Thackeray cousins suffered a defeat in the BEST Employees' Co-operative Credit Society elections. A joint panel of Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray's MNS failed to win any of the 21 seats in the polls. However, Raj Thackeray took to X and said that the meeting with the Maharashtra CM was over the "traffic problems and parking issues" in Mumbai and other cities. "The topic was the traffic problem that has arisen in all cities of the state, including Mumbai, and some solutions we proposed... Cities are growing, new projects are coming up, and the influx of people into cities is not stopping. We are stuck on issues like pigeons and elephants, but we are not paying attention to problems like parking. Traffic congestion is the most serious issue, and there is a need to look at it," Thackeray said. Thackeray said he made a presentation before Fadnavis during which the Mumbai Police Commissioner and Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic) were also present. Meanwhile, speculations are rife over a possible alliance between the Sena (UBT) and the MNS for the forthcoming local body polls in the state. Recently, the Thackeray cousins shared a political stage in Mumbai last month on the issue of Marathi identity and 'imposition' of the Hindi language in the state. Raj Thackeray blames migrant influx for 'collapse' of railway system Following a mishap where four people died after falling off two overcrowded local trains, Raj Thackeray had blamed the influx of migrants from other states for the "collapse" of the railway system in Mumbai. "A flood of people coming to (Mumbai) from outside led to the collapse of the railway system. But everyone is busy campaigning for elections," he said in June this year. He further said that it is not just the railway system, but also the Maharashtra cities which are in a mess. "It's not only about the railway system. All our cities are in a mess. There are no proper roads, and traffic snarls are a regular feature in several cities including Mumbai and Pune. A fire engine can't reach in time if a blaze breaks out," he added.

CM Devendra Fadnavis urges industry to turn US tariff crisis into opportunity

Amid growing concerns over the tariff imposed by the United States on Indian goods, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said the US's decision to impose tariffs on Indian goods should not be seen as a setback but as an opportunity to expand exports and find alternative markets. Chairing a review meeting on global import-export strategy at Sahyadri Guest House, Fadnavis said Maharashtra must step forward to turn adversity into opportunity. 'The US has tried to put India in a difficult position by raising tariffs. But instead of treating this as a crisis, we should look for new markets and ensure Maharashtra becomes a driving force in India's economic growth,' the Fadnavis said. As a solution to this, Fadnavis directed the creation of a dedicated 'Ease of Doing Business War Room' to monitor reforms, address bottlenecks and review progress every month. He said that the disruption in global trade highlighted the need for Maharashtra to accelerate policy changes, attract fresh investments and provide greater support to exporters. Fadnavis underlined that the state must cut procedural delays and strengthen its single-window clearance system so that industries do not face hurdles in acquiring permissions. For agriculture-linked businesses on more than five hectares, he said prior approvals should not be required. He also called for speeding up land measurement processes and clearing environmental permissions in a fixed timeframe, while ensuring that industries which do not harm the environment are not subjected to punitive fines. To spread industrial growth beyond existing hubs, the Chief Minister urged officials to frame a clear policy for private industrial parks outside state-run MIDC estates, with a special focus on small and medium enterprises. 'Industrialisation will bring prosperity and create jobs, but for that the system must be efficient and responsive,' he said. At the meeting, officials presented a review of reforms already implemented in Maharashtra. The state has become the first in the country to issue year-long fire safety clearances, enacted the Maitri Act 2023 to streamline permissions, launched a single-window system for electricity connections requiring only two documents, and rolled out a Building Plan Management System to fast-track construction approvals. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation has also operationalised MILAP, an online portal for transparent land allocation. Looking ahead, the state government outlined several new measures. These include creating a land bank to make plots available quickly, making the allotment process more transparent and efficient, and ensuring environmental permissions are granted within 60 days. At the district level, a mechanism will be set up to attract investment, while a dedicated export portal will be launched to help local businesses reach global buyers. A 'One Taluka, One Cluster' initiative will also be introduced to promote localised industrial growth. Fadnavis further stressed that the government was committed not only to attracting new industries but also to supporting existing ones. He said reforms should result in real, on-ground change. 'This is not about cosmetic reform. The real test is whether approvals come faster, whether industries face fewer hurdles, and whether jobs and prosperity are being created,' he said.
