Caitlin Clark injury update: Is Fever guard playing today against Mystics?
Clark will miss the Fever's matchup against the Washington Mystics on Friday, her 12th consecutive absence since suffering the groin injury July 15. Clark, who previously missed time with a left quad and a left groin injury, has been sidelined 20 of the Fever's 33 games this season. Indiana is 8-5 with Clark in the lineup and 10-10 without her on the floor.
Clark's lengthy absence marks uncharted territory for the 2024 Rookie of the Year, who never missed a game during her four years at Iowa or during her rookie campaign with the Fever.
"I've never been through anything like this, which is probably why it's been so hard," Clark said during a Aug. 8 episode of Sue Bird's podcast, "Bird's Eye View." "I've never really dealt with injury. It's probably been a challenge in itself because when I was first feeling pain, I didn't understand it."
Clark isn't the only injury Indiana is navigating. The Fever lost guards Sydney Colson (left ACL tear) and Aari McDonald (broken right foot) to season-ending injuries, further depleting the team's depth at point guard. The Fever signed guard Odyssey Sims to a hardship contract on Sunday and guard Kyra Lambert to a seven-day contract on Thursday.
Here's what we know about Clark's injury status, including a full injury timeline:
Is Caitlin Clark playing Friday? Injury status for Fever-Mystics
Clark (right groin injury) will likely be ruled out of the Fever's matchup against the Washington Mystics on Friday in Indianapolis, which is set to tip off at 7:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. PT) on ESPN. Indiana hasn't announced a timetable for Clark's return. Earlier this week, Fever coach Stephanie White said Clark has resumed running, but hasn't returned to practice just yet, meaning her return won't be anytime soon.
If Clark is ruled out, Friday's game against the Mystics would mark her 21st total absence of the year.
How was Caitlin Clark injured?
Clark suffered a right groin injury in the final minute of the Fever's 85-77 victory over the Sun at TD Garden in Boston on July 15. With 39.1 seconds remaining in the contest, Clark completed a bounce pass to Kelsey Mitchell to put the Fever up 84-75. After the pass, Clark immediately grabbed for her right groin and grimaced as she gingerly walked over and headbutted the stanchion. She did not return to the game.

Paige Bueckers responds to Sophie Cunningham's officiating criticisms
Paige Bueckers essentially responded to criticism from fellow WNBA star Sophie Cunningham with a shrug. Following the Indiana Fever's one-point loss to Bueckers and the Dallas Wings earlier this week, Cunningham publicly lamented what she believed were favorable calls for the former UConn point guard. 4 Paige Bueckers guarded by Sophie Cunningham on Aug. 1. AP Bueckers scored 16 points but only attempted four free throws in the win. 'I love Paige to death, do not get me wrong. I think she's a hell of a player and would love to play with her one day, but those refs were giving her every whistle last night,' Cunningham said Wednesday on her 'Show Me Something' podcast. 'You literally couldn't touch her, couldn't touch her. That s–t is so annoying to me. 'And if you're going to do that, then give it to our guards. I just hate the inconsistency.' Asked for her response before Friday's 97-96 loss to the Los Angeles Sparks, Buckers told reporters, 'Everyone is entitled to their own unique personal opinion.' Yankees GM Brian Cashman Defends Aaron Boone as Team Struggles Continue
The New York Yankees have struggled in the second half of the season after the All-Star break. They've now fallen into third place in the American League East and enter Saturday 6 1/2 games back of the Toronto Blue Jays, who are in first. As cries for manager Aaron Boone to be fired grow louder, general manager Brian Cashman is defending Boone and doesn't appear ready to make a change. WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA - MARCH 12: New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman talks with manager Aaron Boone prior to a Grapefruit League spring training game against the Washington Nationals at FITTEAM Ballpark of... WEST PALM BEACH, FLORIDA - MARCH 12: New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman talks with manager Aaron Boone prior to a Grapefruit League spring training game against the Washington Nationals at FITTEAM Ballpark of The Palm Beaches on March 12, 2020 in West Palm Beach, Florida. Many professional and college sports are canceling or postponing their games due to the ongoing threat of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. More"One thing that people maybe really forget is that we play in a market that holds you — maybe Boston and Philly, too — that holds you more accountable automatically," Cashman told Chris Kirschner and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. "The market already provides instant accountability. In many cases, today's world is so much different than maybe generations before. I think leaders, managers, coaches are more inclined to try to support and help players that are going through a lot as they try to navigate their struggles. Struggles are part of the game. It's just louder in a bigger market." That is correct. New York is obviously a bigger market compared to smaller ones even within the same division such as Toronto and Tampa Bay. However, market size has nothing to do with performances, and the Yankees have been one of baseball's worst teams since the All-Star break. Catching up within the division is going to be difficult for the Bronx Bombers to do. However, Cashman believes Boone is the guy to lead them through the chase. "He knows how tough this sport is," Cashman told The Athletic about Boone. "He's invested in these guys heavily, as we all are. Trying to explain away a difficult play or a bad performance for some time while the storm is upon us is not an easy task to navigate or deal with and remain cool, calm and collected. He's obviously done an amazing job of working through that. ... We're the defending American League champs trying to re-defend that. Obviously, right now, we're not in control of the division. Our first goal is try to win the American League East and automatically punch the ticket that way. If not, we'll be fighting to punch a ticket a different way. We have a lot of time on the clock, but not enough time at the same time. I don't want to misrepresent (that) there's not urgency, because there is." There needs to be a little more urgency for the final six weeks of the regular season. New York holds just a 1 1/2-game lead over the Cleveland Guardians for the final wildcard spot. Cashman might have a different stance if/when the Yankees are eliminated from the playoffs. More MLB: Fernando Tatis Jr. on Padres-Dodgers Rivalry: 'It's What We Play For'

ESPN tabs Keldric Faulk as second team All-American
Auburn Tigers EDGE rusher Keldric Faulk is set to have a great season in 2025, and could end the season with high honors. ESPN recently released its preseason All-American team, and included the Tigers' superstar defender on the second team, behind Clemson's TJ Parker. Faulk is the lone Auburn player to make the list, and is one of six players from the SEC to earn a second-team nod. Faulk has high expectations heading into his junior season on the Plains. In addition to his growing list of preseason accolades, Faulk is also a major part of NFL mock drafts. Bleacher Report is the latest outlet to forecast a first-round grade for Faulk, pairing him with the Kansas City Chiefs at No. 28 overall. Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report feels that Faulk's body type is not typical of an NFL pass rusher, but also believes that Faulk falling to No. 28 would be a steal for the Chiefs if the prediction were to come true. Auburn defensive linemen Keldric Faulk being available to the Kansas City Chiefs feels like another instance of the rich getting richer. Others are much higher on Faulk's potential and what he could become as the 2025 campaign progresses. At the same time, he a very young prospect, who's raw and presents a body type that's not typical for an edge-defender. Instead, he'll need to grow as a 6'6", 285-pound defender capable of winning from multiple alignments. Faulk's All-America nod is another notch in his belt. The pass rusher from Highland Home is also included on the Bednarik Award watch list, an award given to the best defensive player in college football. Pro Football Focus also named Faulk one of the 50 best players in college football heading into the 2025 season. Faulk is Auburn's highest graded returning defender according to Pro Football Focus after posting an 83.8 score, trailing fellow EDGE Jalen McLeod. He recorded 45 total pressures last season, broken down by 31 hurries, nine sacks, and one forced fumble. Faulk will anchor the Tigers defense again this season, and will aim to post the best numbers of his career.
