JoJo Siwa Says She Felt Pressured into Coming Out as a Lesbian: 'I Kind of Boxed Myself in'
JoJo Siwa is reflecting on her coming out experience
"I kind of boxed myself in," she told the Daily Mail's YOU Magazine in a new interview
Siwa is currently dating Chris Hughes, who she met while starring on Celebrity Big Brother U.K.JoJo Siwa is opening up about her coming out experience.
In a new interview with the Daily Mail's YOU Magazine, the Dance Moms alum reflected on previously feeling pressured to come out as a lesbian.
"When I came out at 17, I said: 'I'm pansexual, because I don't care [about gender].' But then I kind of boxed myself in and I said: 'I'm a lesbian.' And I think I did that because of pressure," Siwa, 22, told the publication.
She noted that she felt the pressure came "in a weird way" from "inside the [LGBTQ] community at times."
"From people I know, from partners I've had," said Siwa. "You just get put in this world where you feel like, because you now have said, 'Oh, I'm a lesbian', you have to be a lesbian. And the truth is, sexuality is fluid."
In 2021, Siwa came out as LGBTQ, but during her appearance on CBB earlier this year, where met now-boyfriend Chris Hughes, she reflected on her sexuality again.
"I feel, like, so queer, do you know what I mean?" she told Danny Beard, her costar and a RuPaul's Drag Race UK alum.
Added Siwa: "I've always told myself I'm a lesbian, and I think being here I've realized: 'Oh, I'm not a lesbian, I'm queer.' And I think that's really cool."
She added that she was "switching letters," referring to the letters in LGBTQ.
"I've dropped the L and I've gone to the Q baby! That's what I love about sexuality," said Siwa, to which Beard, 33, responded: "You are Q, honey. And you know that British people love a queue!"

Following the end of CBB, Siwa and her then-partner Kath Ebbs, who identifies as non-binary, broke up.
One month later, Siwa and Hughes, 32, showcased their friendship, posting snaps from a getaway in Mexico, along with a photo of them cuddling together.
On June 2, Siwa confirmed that she and Hughes were dating in an interview with The Guardian.
"It's not platonic anymore, and it's been a beautiful development, a beautiful connection, and I'm absolutely head over heels for him and he's the same way," the "Karma" singer told the outlet.

JoJo Siwa says she felt 'forced' to come out as a lesbian
In a new interview with the Daily Mail, JoJo Siwa discussed her new relationship with her Celebrity Big Brother co-star, Chris Hughes, and the world's reaction to her dating a man after coming out as a lesbian. Sign up for the to keep up with what's new in LGBTQ+ culture and entertainment — delivered three times a week straight (well…) to your inbox! Siwa told another contestant on Celebrity Big Brother UK that she felt "queer" was a better fitting label than lesbian as her and Hughes grew closer. Looking back, she clarified how she currently identifies. "When I came out at 17, I said, 'I'm pansexual, because I don't care [about gender].' But then I kind of boxed myself in and I said, 'I'm a lesbian.' And I think I did that because of the pressure." When the interviewer asked her where that pressure came from, she said, "In a weird way, I think it came a little bit from inside the [LGBTQ] community at times. From people I know, from partners I've had. You just get put in this world where you feel like, because you now have said, 'Oh, I'm a lesbian,' you have to be a lesbian. And the truth is, sexuality is fluid." Siwa and Hughes' relationship grew out of an interaction they had on Celebrity Big Brother after Hughes defended her against a homophobic interaction from actor Mickey Rourke. After that, their bond grew closer and blossomed into an on-screen romance that garnered thousands of comments on their relationship for days. Now, the two share photos of themselves cuddling together on vacation and declaring their love for one another. Some find her relationship hard to believe due to her over-the-top antics and her most recent attempt to shed the "child star" label. After coming out in 2021, she said she felt that her former television network, Nickelodeon, "made the conscious choice to forget about [her]," and she redirected her focus to making music. In 2024, Siwa released her song, "Karma," and called herself the "CEO of gay pop." She said during the interview that this era of her life was all "nonsense." Siwa admitted that she "faked being naughty for a year" and "faked that I was screwing people left and right," saying she "wanted attention." After reflecting on the most pivotal moments of her career and what she's had to deal with, Siwa tells the Daily Mail that she would do everything the same way again if given the chance. "I've already thought about it, and I'm beyond happy with it all. If I could go back in time, I wouldn't change a thing. Really. Zero. I would change nothing," she said. Rod Stewart Reveals The 1 Reason His Trump Friendship Is Done: 'I Can't Anymore'
Grammy-winning singer Rod Stewart says he can't be friends with President Donald Trump anymore, citing his administration's ongoing support for the brutal Israeli military campaign in Gaza that has killed more than 55,000 Palestinians since October 2023 according to the Gaza Health Ministry. Stewart recently sat down for an interview with Radio Times to promote his upcoming set at the Glastonbury Festival, only to tear into Trump, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu — after being asked if he still considers Trump a friend. 'No, I can't any more,' Stewart told the outlet. 'As long as he's selling arms to the Israelis — and he still is. How's that war ever gonna stop? And we should stop selling them as well. What did Starmer say yesterday? They dropped the talks on trade?' 'What fucking difference is that gonna make?' the singer continued. 'Someone's gotta do something. What Netanyahu is doing to the Palestinians is exactly what happened to the Jews. It's annihilation, and that's all he wants to do — get rid of them all.' 'I don't know how they sleep at night,' Stewart added. This isn't the first time Stewart has criticized Trump. The rock icon reportedly said ahead of the 2016 election that he didn't think Trump was 'presidential,' called him a 'prick' in 2020 for pulling out of the Paris Climate Accords and ridiculed him onstage last year. Stewart used to frequently socialize with the former real estate tycoon, however. The rock icon explained during his interview Tuesday that he lives 'literally half a mile' from Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida — and once 'knew him very, very well.' 'I used to go to his Christmas parties,' Stewart told Radio Times. 'He's always been a bit of a man's man. I liked him for that. But he didn't, as far as I'm concerned, treat women very well. But since he became president, he became another guy.' 'Somebody I didn't know,' he reflected. The singer mocked Trump last year during a Las Vegas concert ahead of the 2024 election for 'turning orange,' as Trump made the racist claim that then-Democratic nominee, former Vice President Kamala Harris, 'happened to turn Black' before announcing her run. Stewart is a model railway enthusiast at home, but also politically active in his spare time. In 2017, he covered all necessary expenses for a group of children with disabilities — whose parents couldn't raise enough money to travel to Washington, D.C. — to protest a GOP health care bill that included proposed cuts to Medicaid. 'I'm neither a Democrat nor a Republican, but I am a father,' he said at the time. Prince William welcomes latest additions to royal family in rare birthday tribute
Kate Middleton is celebrating her husband Prince William on his 43rd birthday. In a rare and sweet tribute, the Princess of Wales shared a never-before-seen photo of Prince William, as he affectionately posed with the newest additions to their royal family – four adorable puppies born to Orla, the couple's beloved black cocker spaniel. "Happy birthday! Love C, G, C, L, Orla and the puppies!", the social media caption read with a paw print emoji, as the Prince of Wales embraced the four-legged friends. The affectionate birthday post was signed by Princess Catherine of Wales, 43, and their three children – Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7. Prince William is seen lovingly looking down at one of the puppies in his lap as he is dressed in casual blue denim jeans and a dark green buttoned-up collared shirt. In April, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a heartwarming photo of their pet, Orla, on National Pet Day. "Celebrating the animals who bring so much joy, companionship and love to our lives," the caption read on Instagram. A dog was seen posing in the grass, looking off to the side in the sweet photo. Meanwhile, Prince William's birthday tribute is a rare public declaration of Kate's love and support for her husband. People magazine previously noted that the Prince and Princess of Wales don't typically write personal messages on their social media. Princess Kate's birthday message comes after she unexpectedly pulled out of a scheduled return to Royal Ascot, Fox News Digital confirmed earlier this week. The Princess of Wales was set to appear at the annual horse racing event with her husband on June 18. The mother of three was said to be disappointed not to be there. However, the princess is still trying to find the right balance as she returns to public engagements following her cancer treatment. Princess Kate was originally on the carriage list. However, William was seated with his father, King Charles, and stepmother, Queen Camilla. Kate's mother, Carole Middleton, was pictured arriving at the racetrack. Last year, William attended Royal Ascot solo while Kate was undergoing chemotherapy for an undisclosed form of cancer. His in-laws, Carole and Michael Middleton, were also present. In March 2024, Kate announced in a video she had cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy. The revelation came after weeks of speculation about her health and whereabouts. In January of that year, she was hospitalized for unspecified abdominal surgery. In September 2024, Kate announced she had finished her preventative chemotherapy, although she said her path to full recovery would be long and that she would take it day by day.
