Police and literacy department officials have failed to recover 1,000 textbooks worth Rs0.7 million stolen from the literacy department's head office.
The theft reportedly took place under the cover of a blackout during the India-Pakistan conflict, raising serious questions about the security of Rawalpindi's educational offices.
According to available CCTV footagecaptured by one of the few functioning camerasthree masked individuals were seen loading the stolen books onto a Suzuki pickup.
Their identities remain unknown.
The footage does not clarify who authorised the opening of the main gate between 2am and 3am, nor has the department offered answers regarding the whereabouts of on-duty guards.
Following the theft, hundreds of literacy students have been deprived of free textbooks. The head office at Committee Chowk, established 60 years ago, houses key officials including EDOs for Education and Literacy, college directors, and staff records for the entire district.
Despite the presence of multiple night watchmen and guards, the incident has exposed glaring lapses in security.
EDO Literacy Naveed-ul-Haq has filed an official police report and assured a thorough inquiry, promising strict action against those found responsible.

Tump assistant commissioner abducted from near Tigranabad, Balochistan
Armed men abducted Tump Assistant Commissioner Hanif Noorzai on Wednesday morning near Tigranabad as he was traveling with his family to Quetta, according to local sources. Eyewitnesses report that between six to eight armed individuals stopped his official vehicle, took him away at gunpoint, and fled with the car. The notification further stated that the new designation is intended to reflect 'the true nature and ideology' of these groups and their 'nefarious designs' sponsored by India. Security forces eliminate 14 militants in North Waziristan operation: ISPR
Listen to article At least 14 militants allegedly affiliated with Fitna al-Khawarij, a group identified as an Indian proxy, were killed in intellegence-based operations in North Waziristan between June 2 and 3, it emerged on Wednesday. According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces conducted operations in Dhatta Khel area of North Waziristan. "After a fierce exchange of fire, 14 militants affiliated with the Indian-sponsored group were neutralized." Sanitization operations are ongoing in the area to ensure the complete elimination of any remaining threats, said the military's media wing. "Pakistan's armed forces remain resolute in their mission to eradicate Indian-sponsored terrorism and restore lasting peace across the country," the statement added. PM Shehbaz vows to resolve all issues concerning KP
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday assured to address all issues concerning Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Addressing a Jirga in Peshawar, he announced to form a committee to look into all the demands and issues raised by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, according to a statement from Prime Minister's office. The Honourable Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, along with Federal Ministers of Defence, Interior, Information and Federal Minister for Kashmir & GB Affairs, visited Peshawar today. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI(M), Chief of Army Staff (COAS) was also with PM on the visit to Peshawar. On arrival, CM & Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhawa welcomed the Prime Minister. During the visit, Prime Minister addressed a Grand Jirga attended by eminent tribal elders from across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Governor and Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were also present at the occasion.
