Kuwait issues RFQ for 500MW renewable power plant
The Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects (KAPP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Electricity & Water & Renewable Energy of the State of Kuwait (MEWRE), has invited bids from leading developer/ developer consortia for a major renewable power plant within the Al Dibdibah Power and Al Shagaya Renewable Energy Phase III – Zone 2 Solar PV IPP project.
The winning consortium will be responsible for the development, financing, design, procurement, engineering, construction, testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the 500MW plant as well as transfer of the key Al Dibdibah Power and Al Shagaya Renewable Energy project, said KAPP in a statement.
The renewable power project lies within the administrative boundary of the Jahra Governorate in the west of Kuwait City, approximately 100 km from the capital city, it stated.
KAPP said the project will export the output from the plant to Kuwait's electricity grid and transmission network. It will benefit from power purchase agreement (PPA) with MEWRE as the offtaker for a 30-year term.
As the main body responsible for implementation of the public-private-partnership projects, KAPP aims to utilise private sector skills and expertise to maximise value for money and service quality.
The deadline for submitting the bids has been set at July 24, it added.

EDGE signs $2.45bn naval contract with Kuwait
EDGE, one of the world's leading advanced technology and defence groups, has signed a AED9 billion ($2.45 billion) defence contract with the Kuwait Ministry of Defence for the supply of Falaj3 62-metre missile boats. This contract marks the largest naval shipbuilding export in the region and ranks among the highest-value naval export deals globally. As the prime contractor, EDGE will lead the programme which includes the design, construction, trials, and delivery of the vessels, in addition to Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) and In-Service Support (ISS). EDGE will also provide the ammunition for the vessels, further demonstrating its end-to-end capability offering. Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), EDGE Group's naval arm and the UAE's leading shipbuilder, has been selected as the build subcontractor for the programme. Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO, EDGE, said: 'This agreement with Kuwait is hugely significant both in scale and strategic importance. Combined Group secures $338m GCC infrastructure contracts
Kuwait-based Combined Group Contracting (CGC), a leading player in the Arab Gulf's contracting sector, has announced that it key subsidiaries have secured contracts worth $338.3 million from across the GCC region. The first contract worth AED 859.9 million ($234.1 million) for road construction works in UAE was snapped up by its local unit - CGC Company Emirates - from the Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure. As part of the contract, the company will execute the upgrade of Emirates Road from Al Bade'a Intersection to E55 Intersection. The scope of work involves the construction of new bridges and intersections, as well as the improvement of existing ones. The entire work will be completed within a two-year period, said the company in a statement. Also CGC said it had snapped up two contracts from Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) worth KD32 million ($104.2 million). The first contract is related to external works of Jurassic production facilities in Umm Naqa area which will be completed in 19 months, while the second contract is related to Wafra Joint Operations (WJO) Gas Export Pipeline project.
