SCOTTISH schools were targeted by cyber criminals causing exam revision to be thrown into turmoil.

The schools were targeted in a "phishing attack" where hackers try to trick people into clicking on malicious links to steal information.
They are often sent through emails or texts pretending to be from legitimate sources and often fake urgent situations in the hope people click malware links in a panic.
Council staff noticed the "unusual" email activity and had IT staff take action.
In a bid to stop the criminals getting any information, they had to reset the passwords of every single pupil and staff member.
But it meant youngsters studying for their exams were locked out of their accounts and couldn't access any revision materials.
School staff have gone to work today so pupils can come in and have their passwords reset.
They will be able to go to their school between 10.15am and 12 noon to get a new password issued and get back into their account.
Council chiefs have posted links where other materials to help kids get ready for exams can be found.
A spokesperson for Edinburgh Council said: "On the afternoon of Friday May 9, we noticed some unusual e-mail activity on our schools and early years IT network.
"As a precaution, we have had to make the difficult decision to immediately reset all passwords across this network, including those of our students/learners.

"This means that learners studying for exams this weekend do not currently have access to Teams or One Note resources.
"Learners can access their personal revision materials by going to their school today (Saturday May 10) between 10.15am and 12 noon and a member of staff will issue them with a new password."

Police scrambled to the scene at around 10.30pm after the alarm was raised over reports of a knife assault. The boy was found bleeding on the pavement by shocked neighbours who rushed to his rescue while they waiting for emergency services. The boy was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment and has since been discharged. Police have now confirmed that a teenager, also 15, has been charged with attempted murder. He is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court sometime today. A statement from the force read: "A 15-year-old boy has been arrested and charged in connection with an attempted murder in Glasgow. "Around 10.30pm on Thursday, 29 May, officers received a report of another 15-year-old male having been found seriously injured in the Denbeck Street area of Glasgow. "Emergency services attended and he was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, with what were described as serious injuries. He has since been discharged. "The boy is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, 5 June, 2025." Schoolboy attacked teacher like a 'ragdoll' and left her permanently disfigured
A teenager who attacked a teacher and said 'the stupid cow deserves it' has been spared prison. Carol Shaw, who worked at St Paul's Academy in Dundee, was seriously injured after Keiran Matthew grabbed her and dumped her head-first on a concrete floor. She was knocked unconscious after being thrown 'like a ragdoll' to the ground, and left lying in a pool of her own blood while Matthew played on his phone and put his feet up on another teacher's desk. Matthew, who was 17 at the time of the attack but is now 18, walked free from court after his sentence fell within Scottish rules on avoiding short-term prison sentences for first offenders. The attack happened after Matthew refused to get changed separately from other pupils for a PE class. The measure had been agreed by Matthew, his foster mum and the school because of his previous aggression towards other pupils. But on March 22 of last year he became 'agitated and heightened' over his separation from other pupils, so Ms Shaw was called in because she was deemed a 'safe' person for him and had successfully de-escalated volatile incidents. Two other teachers and pupils were placed in a locked classroom away from Matthew, but Fiscal depute Laura Bruce told the court: 'The accused then realised they had gone to the ICT class and moved towards the door and said 'I'm f****** going in there too'. 'He tried to exit to the corridor where Ms Shaw had her back to him. 'She recalls him gripping her in a rugby-style grip with her arms pinned to her sides and the next thing she felt was the horrific impact of her head striking the floor. 'She was blinded by her own blood, which covered her face and top with a large amount of blood seen on the floor. 'Another teacher had witnessed the accused lift her completely off her feet, throwing her to the floor deliberately and landing head-first. 'Another said she appeared to be like a ragdoll flying through the air. 'The accused sat at a teacher's desk, with his feet on the desk and using his mobile phone. 'He told a teacher 'Sir, it wasn't an outburst of anger. She deserved it'.' He later banged on the desk and said: 'The stupid cow deserved it.' A colleague took Ms Shaw to hospital due to an expected 20-minute wait for an ambulance. She suffered concussion, was unable to finish sentences, and was given 10 stitches, leaving her with a large Y-shaped scar on her head. Plastic surgeon Dr Ketki Kaushal said the assault could have been life-threatening. Matthew pled guilty to seizing the teacher's neck and body, throwing her to the floor, causing her to strike her head and be rendered unconscious. He admitted the assault was to her severe injury, permanent disfigurement and the danger of her life. Matthew, who has ADHD and an 'extremely low' IQ range between 47 and 59, said 'I am sorry' when he was cautioned and charged with the assault. Solicitor Theo Finlay, defending, said: 'He has had longstanding issues managing his emotions. It is likely he was already in a heightened condition. He experiences nightmares and requires to be medicated. 'That is attributed to childhood abuse. He needs prompts to eat and struggles in noisy or busy environments. He was not being allowed into the changing room and had feelings of unfairness. 'He described becoming agitated. The teacher moved others away, which made him feel more agitated and singled out. At school he felt intensely disliked and frequently provoked by his peers.' Sheriff Tim Niven-Smith said the assault merited 18 months in prison, but this was reduced for an early guilty plea. The sentence then fell within Scottish sentencing rules on avoiding short sentences for first offenders, meaning Matthew was able to walk free from court. He was placed under social work supervision for three years and ordered to attend courses including one for anger management. Matthew was also placed on a Restriction of Liberty Order for 12 months between 9pm and 7am every night. Sheriff Niven-Smith said: 'It is difficult to imagine a more serious assault, having regard to the consequences of your attack for Ms Shaw. More Trending 'It is not over-egging the pudding or exaggerating to say your attack has affected her life in every aspect. 'She is permanently disfigured. Photos show an extensive, significant scar on her head. 'Until her promotion, she was the safe person for you to seek sanctuary with if you felt overwhelmed. She has dedicated her life to vulnerable school children such as you. 'You have robbed her of her career as she has been unable to go back to school due to panic attacks, nightmares and night terrors as a result of this assault.' After going missing on Wednesday, 28 May, the Scot's body was found in a ravine after a week of extensive searching in the Algarve region. Greg worked as a mechanic for Doncaster-based Cementation Skanska. He travelled to Portugal with friends for a five-day stag do in Albufeira, a coastal city in the Algarve, the southernmost point of the country. Greg and his friends were staying at the Novochoro Apartments complex, an hour's walk away from the clubs and bars of Cerro de Aguia. 2 Police confirmed that they saw the Scot on CCTV the night he went missing What do we know about Greg Monks' disappearance? Greg told his friends that he was heading back to their accommodation after a night of drinking. Greg was last seen in the early hours of Wednesday, May 28, near the Cerro de Aguia area of the town. An initial report was made to police at 8pm on May 28 by another man accompanying him. Police confirmed that they had spotted Greg on CCTV, but were initially unable to find him. His parents and girlfriend flew out to assist in the search. After an agonising wait, his body was found a week later. Greg's body was discovered in a remote area an hour away from the popular Albufeira strip, which is known for its rocky terrain, cliffs and ravines. What have the police said about the incident? Portuguese police have released an official statement: 'PJ police (Policia Judiciaria), through the Southern Directorate and with the collaboration of the Albufeira GNR police force, today located the body of a man who had been missing since May 28 in the Cerro de Aguia area of Albufeira. 'The disappearance of the 38-year-old UK citizen was reported to the Albufeira GNR at 8pm on the 28th by another man who was accompanying him on holiday in the area. 'After carrying out various enquiries and establishing the presumed route taken in the early hours of that day since the last sighting, the body was located on steep wasteland.' No cause of death has been provided. The body has been recovered and will be taken for an autopsy before being released, Policia Judiciaria confirmed.
