IAF to get Rs 10,000 crore indigenous I-STAR spy planes to help in precision strikes against enemy ground targets

New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): Amid the ongoing Operation Sindoor against Pakistan, the Defence Ministry is going to take up Rs 10,000 crore proposal to buy three sophisticated spy planes to help Indian Air Force get a clear air-to-ground picture to carry out precision strikes against enemy ground targets like radar stations, air defence units and other mobile objects.
The Rs 10,000 crore project for the Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (I-STAR) is expected to be taken up for clearance at a high-level defence ministry meeting scheduled to be held in the fourth week of June, defence officials told ANI.
The ISTAR provides air-to-ground surveillance to the forces to help them in carrying out precision strikes.
The spy aircraft project being developed by the Defence Research and Development includes the acquisition of three aircraft through an open tender from foreign manufacturers, including Boeing and Bombardier.
The onboard systems on the aircraft would be completely indigenous, as the DRDO's Centre for Airborne Systems has already successfully developed them, they said.
The systems have already been proven and developed by the CABS and they will just have to be integrated with the three aircraft which would be acquired and modified for the purpose, they said.
The development of an ISTAR system would also add India to a select club of nations with such a capability, including the US, UK, Israel and a few others.
ISTAR thus provides dynamic and time-sensitive targeting capability and contributes significantly to meeting the nation's security goals.
It will aid in limiting the scale and complexity of undetected hostile threats. It has multi-spectral surveillance capability to detect, locate and monitor irregular forces.
The I-STAR system shall be for carrying out intelligence gathering, surveillance, reconnaissance and targeting by day and night from stand-off ranges.
The ISTAR systems are operated at high altitudes from large stand-off ranges and will be used for intelligence processing, exploitation, dissemination and generation of the common operating picture.
The ISTAR aircraft will be a system comprising airborne and ground segments. (ANI)

'World now knows the truth': Shashi Tharoor-led delegation on Operation Sindoor wraps up US visit
The all-party delegation on Operation Sindoor, led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, wrapped up the last leg of its multi-nation tour in the United States after meeting Vice President JD Vance and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau. The delegation arrived in the US on June 3 for a three-day visit. It held meetings on Capitol Hill and in Washington and briefed American officials and leaders about India's Operation Sindoor and the nation's stance on cross-border terrorism. Before the US, the Tharoor-led delegation visited Panama, Guyana, Colombia, and Brazil. The group includes Sarfaraz Ahmad (JMM), Tejasvi Surya (BJP), Gants Harish Madhur Balayogi (TDP), Shashank Mani Tripathi (BJP), Bhubaneswar Kalita (BJP), Milind Deora (Shiv Sena), and India's former Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Sandhu. Following the delegation's meeting with Landau on Friday, State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said in a statement that the Deputy Secretary of State "reaffirmed the United States' strong support of India in the fight against terrorism and the strategic partnership between the two countries". 'We discussed the US-India strategic relationship, including expanding trade and commercial ties to foster growth and prosperity for both countries,' Landau said. The Indian Embassy said in a statement that during the meeting with Landau, the Tharoor-led delegation explained to him India's stance against terrorism, with Operation Sindoor being launched in response to the brutal April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. On its last day of the scheduled meetings, the delegation also paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at this statue outside the Indian Embassy in Washington. Afterwards, Tharoor posted on X, "It is striking how many world capitals are adorned with statues or busts of the Mahatma, the 20th century's greatest apostle of peace, nonviolence, and human freedom." The Indian government launched the initiative of sending seven delegations, with members cutting across party lines, to travel to 32 countries and the EU headquarters in Brussels. The goal of this global outreach program is to put forth India's resolve to tackle terrorism against the backdrop of Operation Sindoor. The Indian armed forces launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 and carried out targeted strikes at nine terror infrastructures linked to outfits such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, etc., in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation was launched in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Baisaran near Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which killed 26 people, mostly tourists. During Operation Sindoor, more than 100 terrorists were killed. Following Operation Sindoor, Pakistan attempted to launch a retaliatory military action, with cross-border shelling, unarmed aerial vehicles, and drones across J&K, and border regions. However, most of these attacks were thwarted by the Indian armed forces and the nation's air defence system. After four days of intense cross-border fighting, India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire understanding on May 10.

CM Naidu for incentives to AP families with more kids

This will not only bridge income disparities, but also ensure welfare of the entire family," he said. The four-time CM, who has been an advocate of population management, said the current demographics in the southern states require govts to revisit their strategies. "Fertility rates in AP need to increase. At the present rate, AP will face serious problems… That is why I am thinking of bigger families," he said. Naidu announced recently that female employees could avail of maternity leave any number of times. "It was limited to two times only. We have removed the restrictions," he said. The state govt also made it mandatory for every organisation to provide childcare centres at workplaces. Naidu announced financial aid of Rs 15,000 for every schoolchild. "We give this money directly to the mothers of students. Apart from this, the NDA govt in AP is planning to announce financial assistance to couples for having more kids." The two-child policy previously applicable to prospective candidates for panchayat and municipal polls has been reversed. Belagavi: Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Sunday described Sanatan Dharma and Jainism as foundational pillars of Indian spirituality that teach self-purification, the path of truth and non-violence. He addressed the Bhattarak Sammelan and Jain Community Conference organised by the 1008 Bhattarak Shri Adinath Digambar Jain Samaj Trust at Ainapur in Athani taluk, where he attended as the chief guest. "Such conferences offer an opportunity to reconnect with moral values and religious traditions in today's fast-paced life," the governor said. He urged the Jain community to take collective steps to provide religious education to the younger generation, preserve pilgrimage sites and hold regular spiritual gatherings. The seer criticised the Siddaramaiah-led govt for neglecting the community in welfare schemes and urged the creation of a separate development corporation for Jains. He also demanded the announcement of a dedicated pilgrimage scheme for Jain women to visit Sammed Shikharji in Jharkhand. "If the govt continues to ignore us, I am prepared to go to any extent—even sacrificing my life—for the rights of the community," he declared, also calling for the immediate restoration of scholarships for underprivileged Jain students. Gunadharnandi Munimaharaj further objected to the recent caste census figures, stating that the Jain population is grossly underreported. "According to us, the Jain population in Karnataka exceeds 20 lakh, but the survey shows only 1.66 lakh. This is unacceptable and must be rectified," he said. He also criticised the state's decision to slash the annual development fund for the Jain community from Rs 50 crore to Rs 25 crore, calling it unjust and regressive.
