Rams stars make top-30 under-30 list

USA Today4 days ago
It's no secret that some of the Los Angeles Rams' best players are older.
Matthew Stafford is 37, Davante Adams is 32 and Rob Havenstein is 33. Even Tyler Higbee, Poona Ford and Darious Williams are in their 30s.
But where do the Rams' older players sit among the rest of the NFL's veteran elite? CBS Sports' Jeff Kerr ranked the top 30 players over the age of 30 heading into the 2025 season, and two Rams stars made the cut: Stafford and Adams. Stafford ranked No. 12, while Adams came in at No. 20.
Stafford is still considered amongst the top at his position in his late 30s, finishing strong to close the 2024 season. He had nine touchdowns to just one interception over his last eight games (including playoffs) and boasted a 98.5 passer rating -- part of a season in which he finished with 3,762 yards and 20 touchdowns to just eight interceptions (93.7 rating).
When healthy, Stafford can still get the job done and win games for the Rams. He's still going strong at 37.
Even in his 30s, Adams still finds ways to produce. Adams had his fifth consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season in 2024, finishing with 85 catches for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns. He has six 1,000-yard seasons and five double-digit touchdown seasons, being named a first-team All-Pro three times.
Let's see if Adams can return to his All-Pro form with the Rams, but he's still a very good receiver.
Naturally, the list skewed toward those closer to 30 than 40, but Stafford was tied with San Francisco 49ers tackle Trent Williams for the oldest player on the list. Stafford was also the fourth player over the age of 35 ranked in the top half of the list, alongside Williams (No. 13), Eagles tackle Lane Johnson (No. 2) and Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward (No. 10).
No other Rams players made the list, but ex-Rams receiver Cooper Kupp (now with the Seattle Seahawks) was named an honorable mention.

Eagles sign ex-Super Bowl champ as training camp opens

The post Eagles sign ex-Super Bowl champ as training camp opens appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Philadelphia Eagles opened their training camp on Tuesday by signing veteran defensive end Ogbonnia Okoronkwo, further strengthening their depth and competition in the defensive front rotation. Okoronkwo was drafted in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Los Angeles Rams and has carved out a solid, dependable career as a pass-rush specialist. With 17 career sacks, 132 tackles, 31 tackles for loss, and 38 quarterback hits, Okoronkwo has played in over 80 career games with the Rams, Houston Texans, and the Cleveland Browns before officially joining Philadelphia's roster this week. In 2023, Okoronkwo entered into a three-year, $19 million deal with the Browns, which included incentives to bring the deal value to as much as $22 million. Okoronkwo was set to earn $2.235 million in base salary in 2023, but he was released by the Browns just last month, which surprised some people. Last season, Okoronkwo appeared in 16 games for Cleveland, registering 23 total tackles, five tackles for loss, three sacks, and one pass deflection. He demonstrated his ability to pressure the quarterback, giving the Eagles' defense a reliable and proven pass-rushing option, especially after Philadelphia waived K.J. Henry on the same day Okoronkwo was signed. The Eagles brought in defensive tackle Jacob Sykes, adding depth to the overall defensive line unit. Sykes went undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft and had a short appearance with the Seattle Seahawks, but made a name in the UFL with the San Antonio Brahmas and ended up with good experience. Philadelphia waived both K.J. Henry and running back Lew Nichols as part of their roster adjustments. Both players spent most of the previous season on the Eagles' practice squad and never appeared in regular NFL games. With these new additions, the Eagles continue reshaping and refining their defensive unit during training camp, working to add more experience, reliable depth, and versatility to their pass rush ahead of the upcoming NFL season. Vikings' Dallas Turner opens up about his offseason plan for a breakout 2025

Dallas Turner is under a microscope heading into his second year, especially with the team having to look around and see the likes of Chop Robinson and Jared Verse thrive with the teams that picked them. While Turner was drafted 17th overall, Verse was drafted 19th by the Rams, and Robinson was selected 21st by the Dolphins. While Turner looks to join his draft classmates in the top tier of pass rushers, he took some steps this offseason to get there. Speaking at training camp, Turner gave everyone a glimpse into who he worked with and how he is getting ready for the new season. Turner explained his offseason work and the urgency he had, saying, 'Right after the season… [Greenard and I] were hitting it strong in the weight room, watching film, picking each other's brain. He has a lot of knowledge. He's one of the best vets on the team… it was a good opportunity to be around him and spend time with him and see how he got to this point in his career.' For Turner, he is behind two Pro Bowlers, compared to Robinson and Verse, who are on the same team as Andrew Van Ginkel and Jonathan Greenard. What is going to turn Turner, though, is that Brian Flores has shown he will use a rotation of pass rushers in his schemes. Turner didn't get a lot of playing time last year, so tracking his snaps in the preseason will be critical to setting expectations.

UTSA QB opens up on former Memphis player sharing playbook in huge college football scandal

UTSA quarterback Owen McCown downplayed any importance of the messages shared with him by ex-Memphis player Tahj Ra-El last season that included parts of the Tigers' playbook. McCown told Sports Illustrated he didn't share the information with teammates or coaches, and that the story, first reported by TigerSportsReport, has been mischaracterized. 'Out of the blue, for whatever reason, [Ra-El] sent me a couple images that were completely irrelevant,' McCown said. 'If anybody gets anything, you're going to look at it, but it was of no help whatsoever to me and anybody, really. I would never do something like that. So it was completely irrelevant. Bottom line is that's not how we process things.' 5 UTSA quarterback Owen McCown last November. UTSA coach Jeff Traylor also said that McCown didn't share the information with him. 5 The alleged messages between McCown and Ra-El. On3, /X 'The moment I found out, I called Owen,' Traylor told SI. 'And Owen called me back and said, 'He was a high school buddy of mine, he randomly texted me some stuff,' and was like, 'Coach, it doesn't even make any sense. That's why I didn't say anything to you about it.' 'I'm in the quarterback room with Owen every day. I know he knew nothing about this. I immediately called [Memphis coach] Ryan [Silverfield] and let him know what Owen told me and Ryan told me it was not a big deal at all.' 5 Former Memphis defensive back Tahj Ra-El. purduesports Ra-El shared the messages before UTSA faced Memphis last Nov. 2, a game the Roadrunners won, 44-36. 'That's all the signals,' Ra-El writes, after sending a play sheet to McCown. 'Our coaching staff sees the scenario as being mischaracterized and does not have any concerns moving forward,' Purdue told local media in a statement. 5 McCown during a Nov. 15, 2024 game. We've got to move folks forward. Really, in the last 72 hours, it's come back to light. Coach Traylor and I have had conversations together, we've got respect for each other. 'Every coach has had guys who have left in the middle of the season or left before bowl games.
