Rams stars make top-30 under-30 list

USA Today6 days ago
It's no secret that some of the Los Angeles Rams' best players are older.
Matthew Stafford is 37, Davante Adams is 32 and Rob Havenstein is 33. Even Tyler Higbee, Poona Ford and Darious Williams are in their 30s.
But where do the Rams' older players sit among the rest of the NFL's veteran elite? CBS Sports' Jeff Kerr ranked the top 30 players over the age of 30 heading into the 2025 season, and two Rams stars made the cut: Stafford and Adams. Stafford ranked No. 12, while Adams came in at No. 20.
Stafford is still considered amongst the top at his position in his late 30s, finishing strong to close the 2024 season. He had nine touchdowns to just one interception over his last eight games (including playoffs) and boasted a 98.5 passer rating -- part of a season in which he finished with 3,762 yards and 20 touchdowns to just eight interceptions (93.7 rating).
When healthy, Stafford can still get the job done and win games for the Rams. He's still going strong at 37.
Even in his 30s, Adams still finds ways to produce. Adams had his fifth consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season in 2024, finishing with 85 catches for 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns. He has six 1,000-yard seasons and five double-digit touchdown seasons, being named a first-team All-Pro three times.
Let's see if Adams can return to his All-Pro form with the Rams, but he's still a very good receiver.
Naturally, the list skewed toward those closer to 30 than 40, but Stafford was tied with San Francisco 49ers tackle Trent Williams for the oldest player on the list. Stafford was also the fourth player over the age of 35 ranked in the top half of the list, alongside Williams (No. 13), Eagles tackle Lane Johnson (No. 2) and Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward (No. 10).
No other Rams players made the list, but ex-Rams receiver Cooper Kupp (now with the Seattle Seahawks) was named an honorable mention.

Ex-Steelers QB Kenny Pickett injured at Browns training camp

Browns QB Kenny Pickett injured his hamstring near the end of Saturday's practice and is expected to re-evaluate the injury later this week, per sources. Pickett was coming off a strong couple of practices, per sources, and at least for the short term, there now will be more reps… Former Steelers QB Kenny Pickett has suffered an unfortunate hamstring injury at Browns training camp — opening the door for the starting competition to get additional reps. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Pickett suffered his hamstring injury at the end of Saturday's practice — and is set to be re-evaluated later this week. The Steelers traded Pickett to the Eagles last offseason — who then sent him to the Browns, where he's involved in a four-way competition for the starting QB position in Cleveland. Pickett was splitting reps with QBs Joe Flacco, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders for the Browns' starting spot — and despite a strong early showing at camp, the ex-Steeler will likely fight an uphill battle for the job while nursing his hamstring. Here's to hoping the former first-rounder can return quickly and earn the role for Cleveland — as the Week 6 revenge game, when the Browns visit Pittsburgh, hinges on Pickett under center. LOOK: Texans QB C.J. Stroud makes no-look pass during training camp

If C.J. Stroud makes these throws on the regular, it'll be hard to slow him and the Houston Texans' offense down this fall. During Saturday's open practice to the fans, Stroud evaded a pair of defenders to connect with tight end Dalton Schultz for a first-down gain. The no-look pass is what will bring people to social media, but credit to Schultz for making the one-handed grab and completing the play. Here's a look at the snap below. Stroud and Schultz are both looking to rebound after setbacks from their breakout 2023 campaigns. Stroud, who won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year after throwing for 4,000 yards, only tossed 20 touchdown passes while also throwing a career-high 12 interceptions. Even though his on-field play wasn't perfect, he was still able to guide the Texans to a second division title and playoff victory in the wild-card round. Schultz, who signed a three-year extension worth $36 million in the offseason, only managed to total two touchdown receptions off 53 catches for 523 yards. His role could expand now with the hiring of Los Angeles Rams tight ends coach and passing-game coordinator Nick Caley as the new offensive coordinator. The Texans return to practice on Monday. They'll be in Houston through the week before leaving for The Greenbriar in West Virginia next week ahead of their preseason matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.
