Gay party raid: ‘Shameful it happened in Kelantan'

SHAH ALAM - Pas Information Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has described the recent police raid on a gay party in Kelantan as deeply shameful, particularly as the state is known as the 'Verandah of Mecca'.
Taking to Facebook, Ahmad Fadhli stressed that it is shameful because it happened in Kelantan.
'If it had taken place in Kuala Lumpur, such as the raid on Blue Boy Club in August 2018 or the LGBT Halloween party in October 2022, in Johor Bahru like the same-sex party in February 2023 or even in Penang such as the sex party in a condominium unit in June 2022 where police found condoms, lubricants and ketamine drugs, of course it would not be seen as shameful.
"In fact, those are considered normal, but when it happens in Kelantan, then it is said to be disgraceful,' he wrote.
On Thursday, Kelantan police confirmed that a raid had been conducted on a gay gathering involving over 100 men aged between 20 and 30.
The event took place at a bungalow in Kemumin in mid-June and was disrupted at around 1am following public tip-offs and surveillance by a special police team.

Fadhli, who is also the Pasir Mas Member of Parliament (MP), praised the firm action taken by the authorities, saying it upheld the honour of the state.

'This effort deserves praise and should be continued until this deviant culture is eradicated from Kelantan. We hope the police remain consistent, combating this culture down to its roots.
'For the record, the Federal Court on 25 February 2021, for instance, had annulled a provision in the Kelantan Syariah Enactment related to the ban on men dressing like women on the grounds that it overlapped with Federal law.
'Therefore, Kelantan needs to explore what other avenues can be taken to create stricter laws that are still in line with the Federal Constitution,' he said.
