Kate Beckinsale Sues Over Knee Injury on Croatian Set of ‘Canary Black'
Kate Beckinsale has sued the producers of 'Canary Black,' alleging that she suffered a significant knee injury during filming on an unsafe set in Croatia.
Beckinsale alleges that she was injured while filming an action scene with minimal padding. She argues that the scene should have been done by a stunt performer, but that her stunt double had previously broken her ankle.

The lawsuit alleges that filming days would go as long as 15 hours, despite a 12-hour limit in Beckinsale's contract, exposing her to hazards arising from fatigue.
During filming in December 2022, Beckinsale was to perform in a scene in which another actor threw her against a wall.
'Ms. Beckinsale complained that the scene did not seem safe, and that the throwing of her into the wall was too hard and too dangerous,' the lawsuit alleges. 'Notwithstanding the complaints by Ms. Beckinsale, there were numerous takes of this dangerous scene.'
According to the complaint, Beckinsale suffered a complex tear of her left meniscus. Beckinsale sought medical care and was out of commission for a couple of months, returning to set in February to finish the film.
She alleges that even then, the producers ignored the limitations imposed by her doctors and again coerced her into performing unsafe action scenes.
The complaint was first reported by Puck.
Beckinsale's attorneys filed a cursory version the lawsuit in December, listing Beckinsale as 'Jane Doe.' They did not serve Anton Entertainment, the defendants, until after amending the complaint with more detailed allegations, and with Beckinsale's name, in May. The defendants have yet to respond in court.
The film debuted last year on Amazon Prime.
Beckinsale has had several health issues in recent years. In 2024, she disclosed that she had been hospitalized for six weeks for an esophageal tear, which she attributed to a grief response to her stepfather's death. She also said a severe flare of her mast cell disease had contributed to her illness.

Canfield author publishes new book
BOARDMAN, Ohio (WKBN) — One Canfield Native is celebrating the release of her new book filled with fantasy, adventure and rock 'n' roll. When Joan Reardon was a kid, her mom would bring her to the Boardman Barnes & Noble, where she gravitated toward fantasy books like 'Harry Potter' and 'Percy Jackson.' 'There has never been a time in my life where I wasn't writing,' Reardon said. 'My parents love to tell a story of when I was a baby and I would just scribble on pieces of paper and stack them on top of each other and say, 'I wrote a book.'' Twenty years later, she returned to that same store to find her own new book, 'Dad Rock Dragon Quest,' on the shelves — right next to the books she once fell in love with. 'It's about a family that's a blended family that goes on an adventure to rescue a dragon from magical poachers,' Reardon said. 'Simultaneously, it also features, you know, a lot of rock and roll, plenty of references to like 'Top Gun' and eighties action movies. So it's kind of a story for the whole family.' This is Reardon's second book to be published and sold in thousands of stores across the country, but it holds a special place in her heart. She says many aspects of the story are based on her husband, whom she married shortly after finishing the book in 2023. 'We did, I think, one round of edits, and then we sent it out to the publisher, and we didn't hear back for about two months,' Reardon said. 'And then, the night of our rehearsal dinner, we got news that it was going to be published. So two reasons to celebrate.' Reardon wrote the book in between her law school classes, and, over the past year and a half, she has worked with Simon & Schuster publishing company to get ready for the book's grand release, which was on June 3. 'There's a lot of love and work that goes into the book from, you know, dozens of people. And so everyone's very, very excited to finally have it in stores,' Reardon said. So far, the book has already received a starred review from Publishers Weekly and been picked as a gold standard selection from the Junior Library Guild. But she's not stopping there — she's already putting the finishing touches on the first draft of her next book. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Kate Beckinsale Praises Pets for ‘Holding Us by a Thread' After ‘Canary Black' Lawsuit Goes Public
Kate Beckinsale is seemingly finding solace in her beloved animals after amending a lawsuit she filed against the company and producers behind her 2024 action film Canary Black. On June 11, the actress, 51, shared a video of herself wearing a white dress, an oversized black bow and black boots while holding her dog. 'Shoutout to the furry ones holding us by a thread,' Beckinsale wrote alongside the video, which was accompanied by Randy Newman's 'You've Got a Friend in Me.' She followed up the post with photos of Kate Truitt's Keep Breathing: A Psychologist's Intimate Journey Through Loss, Trauma, and Rediscovering Life and underlined pages from the book. The posts come on the heels of a lawsuit the Underworld alum filed against Anton Entertainment Media Services, Inc; Canary Black, LTD; producer John Zois; and more — who she worked with on the thriller — being made public. In December 2024, Beckinsale sued the parties for negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress and battery under the name Jane Doe — however on May 21, Beckinsale amended the lawsuit to include her name. In the newly amended filing, obtained by Star, the actress alleges she was 'repeatedly exposed to unsafe and dangerous conditions' on set of Canary Black, which resulted in Beckinsale 'suffering severe and debilitating injuries.' According to the documents, Beckinsale and her team brought up their concerns regarding 'long, dangerous set days, often lasting fifteen hours, inadequate equipment and medical personnel to help manage the high physical workload and recover from the exertion off set.' It also claims Beckinsale was not adequately informed about challenging stunts ahead of time. In 2022, Beckinsale emailed Zois and expressed her concerns about being unprepared and undertrained when it involved stunts, including one involving hanging from a wire. 'SpEaking [sic] last night to a few actors and actresses I know in my position, no one has ever been told something was green screen and found out day of a portion of it was practical,' Beckinsale told the producer, per the documents. 'What I am suggesting is merely what has been absolutely standard on every movie I have appeared in before.' The documents also claim that Beckinsale was not given appropriate padding for a scene in which an actor threw her against a wall, resulting in 'significant injuries, including a complex meniscus tear in her left knee.' Two months before Beckinsale filed the initial lawsuit under the name 'Jane Doe', she took to Instagram to dispel a review by The Guardian that theorized that she didn't do her own stunts. 'Kicking impeccably chic ass 🩷and a couple of close ups doesn't half hurt lol,' she captioned a post that featured clips of herself in action and photos of various injuries she seemingly sustained on set.
