341 claims, objections filed by individual electors disposed in Bihar: ECI
The election office has so far received 13,970 claims and objections from electors concerning Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, said an ECI bulletin.
It said as per rules, the claims and objections are disposed by the ERO/AERO concerned after the expiry of 7 days following the verification of eligibility of documents.
However, even after 12 days of the publication of electoral draft rolls, none of the political parties has filed any complaint, the poll panel said.
The ECI said that in Bihar since August 1, as many as 63,591 new electors, who have turned 18 after the SIR exercise, have filled forms for inclusion in the voter list.
For such first-time voters, the election office has received six forms from Booth Level Agents (BLAs) of political parties.
The SIR exercise in Bihar has been attacked by the Opposition parties over alleged irregularities, which they allege threaten to deprive lakhs of voters of their right to vote - a charge denied by the ECI.
The poll panel published its draft electoral rolls on August 1 and has kept a window of one month for people, parties and their BLAs to bring their complaints and grievances regarding inclusion or exclusion from the draft electoral list.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has 47,506 BLAs, the Congress has 17,549, and the Left has over 2,000, all adding up to over 67,000.
The ECI has been routinely reaching out to political parties to join the revision exercise and bring to its notice instances of disenfranchisement, if any.
'Submit your claims and objections to rectify any errors in the draft Electoral Roll of Bihar published on August 1. So far, not even a single claim or objection has been submitted by any political party,' the EC said in a statement.
The ECI highlighted that between June 23 and July 25, the Congress has increased its BLAs to 17,549 (an increase of 105 per cent), Rashtriya Janata Dal to 47,506 (an increase of 1 per cent), Janata Dal (United) to 36,550 (an increase of 31 per cent) and BJP to 53,338 (an increase by 3 per cent).
The ECI concluded the enumeration phase of the SIR between June 24 to July 25. More than 7.24 crore electors -- out of a total of 7.89 crore -- submitted their enumeration forms during the exercise.
At the end, about 65 lakh voters were found to be missing from the draft electoral rolls published on August 1. This included 22 lakh deceased electors (2.83 per cent), 36 lakh (4.59 per cent) who had permanently shifted or were not found and seven lakh (0.89 per cent) who had enrolled at more than one place, ECI data showed.

Declared dead by EC, Bihar man visits CEO's office to say he is alive
Patna, Aug 14 (PTI) A resident of Bhojpur district in Bihar on Thursday called on the Chief Electoral Officer of the state to plead that he was alive. Mintu Paswan, who was earlier this week produced before the Supreme Court, was taken to the CEO's office by a delegation of CPI(ML) Liberation. 'I don't know whether I was seen as an apparition by the officials. The fact remains that I have been distraught to learn that I have been declared dead in the special intensive revision (SIR)," Paswan told reporters here. He alleged that no booth level officer (BLO) had visited his home. CPI(ML)-L secretary Kunal, who was present on the occasion, said, 'Anomalies of this type are the very reason behind our general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya opposing SIR in the Supreme Court. Mintu is being asked to fill up Form 06, meant for registration of new voters, even though he has voted in the past". The CEO has asked him to hand over the form to the BLO concerned, who already stands exposed for a goof-up, the Left leader asserted. 'He (the BLO) has confessed to his mistake and told the CEO that Mintu's name got struck off instead of another person," said Kunal. Replying to a query from journalists, he said, 'We have identified altogether 21 people, so far, who have been wrongfully declared dead, leading to deletion of their names. Of them, 10 were produced before the Supreme Court. He added that the apex court was convinced of the mistake in only two instances – one was of Mintu and the other was that of a woman in Raghopur. Bihar's 2 voter card saga continues, EC now issues notice to MP and her MLC husband
The Election Commission of India on Thursday issued notices to the LJP (Ram Vilas) MP from Vaishali, Veena Devi, and her husband, JD(U) MLC Dinesh Singh, for being enrolled as voters at two different constituencies. They have been asked to respond to the notice by August 16. This comes a day after Bihar Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav brought the matter to the EC's notice. Tejashwi himself had been told to explain why he had two different Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) after he brandished a voter card during a press conference that was purportedly different to the one under which he was registered in the draft electoral rolls published recently amid the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar. After this, he pointed out that even Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha and Muzaffarpur Mayor Nirmala Devi had two EPICS. They were also subsequently sent notices by the EC. The Electoral Registration Officer of the Muzaffarpur Assembly Constituency wrote to LJP(RV) MP Veena Devi, saying that her name was found in the draft electoral rolls at booths in both Sahebganj Assembly constituency and at Muzaffarpur Assembly constituency. 'Along with this, your name has been found mentioned at both the places even before the Special Intensive Revision. Therefore, please give your reply regarding the above subject by August 16, 2025, 5 pm, so that further action can be taken,' the notice said. Her husband and JD(U) MLC Dinesh Prasad Singh also got a similar notice. Veena Devi told reporters that she was not aware of the multiple listing. 'I do not know how my name appeared in Muzaffarpur's electoral roll as I am a registered voter of Sahebganj Assembly seat,' she said. Devi said she had applied for the deletion of her name from the list in Muzaffarpur. Dinesh Prasad Singh declined to comment.
