MPBC Gathers Over 250 Members To Boost Malaysia–Pakistan Ties

BUSINESS Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's upcoming working visit to Pakistan will go a long way in generating momentum to further enhance political and diplomatic relations between the two countries. Briefing the local media on the Malaysian Prime Minister's working visit to Islamabad next week, Pakistan High Commissioner to Malaysia Syed Ahsan Raza Shah said, Anwar's visit to the South Asian country beginning on Monday (Oct 2) until Wednesday (Oct 4) would also boost cultural and economic ties between Malaysia and Pakistan. -- fotoBERNAMA (2024) COPYRIGHT RESERVED KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 (Bernama) -- More than 250 members of the Malaysia–Pakistan Business Council (MPBC) gathered alongside Malaysian government agencies to foster trade and investment between the two countries. MPBC acting chairman Usman Ahmed said the key initiative to drive this agenda is the establishment of the Malaysia–Pakistan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry, formally recognised by both governments. 'Our aim has always been to have a joint chamber of commerce between Malaysia and Pakistan—legally recognised by both governments and authorised to operate in both countries. 'The chairmanship will rotate, alternating between representatives from Pakistan and Malaysia. This is the only way to truly foster trade and investment between the two countries,' he told Bernama at the MPBC Networking Reception and Dinner, today. Among the Malaysian government agencies present were the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade). Established in 2013, MPBC promotes bilateral trade, tourism and investment between Malaysia and Pakistan. Usman, who is also the chief executive officer of Gamalux Oils Sdn Bhd, said MPBC has taken proactive steps to reposition itself as a key trade facilitator between the two countries. 'The council's recent meetings and discussions highlight an urgent need to streamline governance, enhance visibility, improve trade engagement, and establish sustainable institutional practices,' he said. He added that beyond 2025, the council aims to strengthen Malaysia–Pakistan economic ties through structured trade facilitation, diaspora engagement, policy advocacy and strategic institutional reform by 2030.

Johor Committed To Empowering Development Of 600 Accountants

JOHOR BAHRU, June 24 (Bernama) -- The state government is committed to empowering the development of highly skilled human capital by providing 600 special slots to produce professional accountants through international certification programs: the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). Johor Education and Information Committee chairman, Aznan Tamin, said that this initiative aims to strengthen professional career pathways in accounting for Johoreans, thereby opening more international-standard educational opportunities through the provision of globally recognized certification programs. He stated that Yayasan Peneraju acts as the main driver in supporting the state's human capital development by providing special funding for the 'work-up skill' program. "This offer is open to various groups including SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) leavers, working professionals, and degree holders. A total of 600 slots are specially provided for Johoreans, an inclusive step to ensure no one is left behind in high-impact skill development. "In an effort to provide comprehensive support to participants, Sunway TES also plays a crucial role as the official ACCA training provider. They will provide facilities and professional instructors to ensure Johoreans receive high-quality training in line with international standards," he said via his Facebook post. Earlier, Aznan attended a coordination meeting for the ACCA and ICAEW programs, which is a collaboration between the Johor Talent Development Council (JTDC) and strategic partners. Also present at the program's coordination meeting was the Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera, Ibrahim Sani. At the same time, Aznan also expressed his appreciation and thanked all strategic partners who remain committed to working with the state government in empowering youth with knowledge, skills, and future opportunities. -- BERNAMA
