'For decades, management education in India has remained the preserve of a small, English-speaking, urban elite,' Prof Ashok Banerjee, director, IIM Udaipur, told ET, citing reasons including high cut-offs, residential requirements and an implicit expectation of cultural fluency.

IIM Udaipur's four-year BBA programme, set to be launched in July 2026, turns that on its head. 'It is designed for learners who have been historically excluded: students from Hindi-medium schools, rural and small-town youth, NEET (not in education, employment or training) learners, homemakers looking to resume education, first-generation college aspirants and students from non-commerce academic backgrounds,' said Banerjee.
The unique aspect of this programme is its inclusive approach to language of instruction, aligned with the
National Education Policy
mission that aims to promote both Indian and foreign languages in education. While the programme offers Hindi as the primary medium of instruction in the first three years, students have the choice of opting for English right from the first year.
Live Events
The institute is deploying artificial intelligence (AI), using AI-based voice cloning and lip-syncing to allow students to access the same content in both languages, enhancing comprehension and accelerating English proficiency, without burdening faculty with additional work.
The programme is structured to offer multiple exit points: a certificate after Year 1, a diploma after Year 2, a BBA after Year 3 and a BBA (Honours) after Year 4. This flexibility has been introduced keeping in mind that many learners, especially women or those from economically weaker backgrounds, cannot always commit to a residential course.
The first year of the programme focuses on 'workplace survival and entrepreneurship', laying the groundwork for income generation and micro-enterprise; while the second year develops 'MSME and operations readiness', equipping students with the tools to manage or contribute meaningfully to micro, small and medium enterprises. The third year focuses on 'strategy and leadership', deepening skills in decision-making, finance and project execution, and the fourth year prepares learners for 'global and research readiness', transitioning to full English instruction and postgraduate preparedness.
The programme is mobile-first, low-bandwidth friendly and largely asynchronous. Content will be hosted on public platforms like YouTube for easy access, and assessments will be conducted at regional centres.
Tuition fee for the programme starts at Rs 50,000 per year and rises to Rs 2,00,000 by the fourth year. But merit-based and need-based scholarships are offered simultaneously. A student from a low-income household who performs well could pay Rs 87,500 for the entire three-year BBA, and Rs 1.37 lakh for the four-year honours degree.

KRT IPO: Sattva-Blackstone backed REIT gets Sebi nod for Rs 4,800 crore raise; public issue likely to hit markets early August
Knowledge Realty Trust (KRT), a REIT sponsored by Sattva Group and Blackstone, has received approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) to go ahead with its Rs 4,800-crore initial public offering . The public issue is expected to hit the market in the first week of August, according to PTI citing sources. Ahead of the IPO, KRT has already mobilised Rs 1,400 crore from institutional investors. The company had filed its draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) in March this year, as part of its plan to monetise 30 premium office assets spread across key Indian cities, ANI reported. The REIT owns over 46 million sq ft of rent-yielding office properties across 29 locations in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad. Notable assets include One BKC and One World Center in Mumbai, Knowledge City and Knowledge Park in Hyderabad, and Cessna Business Park and Sattva Softzone in Bengaluru. Its net operating income stood at Rs 3,432 crore in FY24. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Do You Speak English? There are currently four REITs listed in India — Brookfield India Real Estate Trust, Embassy Office Parks REIT, Mindspace Business Parks REIT, and Nexus Select Trust. Except for Nexus, which is focused on retail spaces, the others are anchored in office real estate. Together, these four REITs manage over 126 million sq ft of Grade A office and retail space and have distributed over Rs 21,000 crore to unitholders since inception. Sattva Developers, headquartered in Bengaluru, has completed over 74 million sq ft of projects across seven cities, spanning commercial, residential, co-living, co-working, hospitality, and data centres. Another 75 million sq ft is currently in various stages of development. Global investment firm Blackstone continues to hold a substantial portfolio in India's commercial real estate sector. Meanwhile, corporate India is stepping up efforts to improve gender equality at the management level, inducting more women to leadership roles, a possible reason for the increased female participation in these programmes. IIM-Ahmedabad has seen a 10-15% increase in applications for the one-year full-time MBA (MBA-PGPX) programme in each of the last couple of years, said Amit Karna, the institute's chairperson for the MBA-PGPX programme. The number of women enrolled increased by nearly 45% in the same period. The number of applicants has increased at IIM-Lucknow and IIM-Indore as well. Lucknow has also witnessed an upswing in female candidates, said a spokesperson. Both IIM-Lucknow and IIM-Indore said the profile of executive MBA candidates has evolved significantly in recent years. 'The participants come from various domains with an average age of 34-36 years and an average work experience of 12-14 years,' said IIM-Indore director Himanshu Rai. At IIM Shillong, executive MBA is a full-time one-year residential programme, also known as Post Graduate Programme for Executives (PGPEx). Enrolments have increased here from 49 in 2023 to 55 in 2025 while the number of female students has almost doubled from eight in 2023 to 15 in 2025, director in-charge Nalini Prabha Tripathi said. In 2023 and 2024, IIM-Shillong had more executives joining from traditional corporate profiles like banking, consulting, engineering. In 2025, it is more of entrepreneurial, cross-functional and digitally fluent professionals, according to dean academics Rohit Joshi at Shillong. IIM-Lucknow is witnessing a greater diversity in industry backgrounds, with professionals from healthcare, IT and entrepreneurship joining alongside those from traditional domains like manufacturing and finance. ISB's PGP MAX, a 15-month global executive MBA equivalent programme, is seeing a consistent interest from industries such as ITeS, professional services, R&D, banking and financial services, government, defence, energy and the public sector. ISB's PGP MAX programme comprises 24 courses structured around eight cross-functional themes and executive coaching, said deputy dean, Academic Programmes, Deepa Mani. 'Notably, candidates from IT, fintech, and engineering backgrounds have successfully pivoted into strategic and product-oriented roles upon completion of the programme,' said Karna of IIM-Ahmedabad. At IIM-Lucknow, 93% of its IPMX Class of 2025 received job offers with the highest CTC touching Rs 53 lakh per annum, the institute said.
