Jackie Robinson mural in Miami defaced with hate speech

June 6 - Miami murals honoring baseball trailblazers Jackie Robinson and Minnie Minoso were defaced with swastikas and racist slurs this week. The vandalism in the city's Overtown neighborhood was reported Monday to police, who told The Athletic on Friday that they are investigating the incident as a hate crime. The defacements of the murals in Dorsey Park included swastikas painted over the players' faces and a racial slur scrawled on Robinson's image. "This was an act of hate, but it will not define us," Kyle Holbrook, the artist who painted the mural in 2011 as part of the MLK Mural Project, told the Miami Herald. "This mural was born from a community's pride, history, and power. We will restore it -- stronger, bolder, and with even more purpose. Black history is American history. And no spray paint can erase that truth." Robinson broke the color barrier in Major League Baseball when he took the field for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. The Hall of Famer's uniform No. 42 is retired throughout the big leagues. Minoso, who was born in Cuba, also broke ground as the first Black Latino player when he played for Cleveland in 1949. He was inducted into Cooperstown in 2022. U.S. Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Fla.) called the vandalism a "vile act of hatred" in a statement Wednesday. "We must treat this for what it is: a hate crime meant to instill fear and division," she said. "But we will not be intimidated. We will respond with unity, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to truth, justice, and the preservation of our history." In 2024, a statue of Robinson was stolen from a park in Wichita, Kan., and later found burned and dismantled. --Field Level Media

'If you want the player, pay the £85m' - fan views on Kudus

We asked for your views on Mohammed Kudus being linked with a move to Chelsea in a cash-plus-player deal. Here are some of your comments:Lewis: He has a release clause for a reason. If you want the player, pay the £85m. West Ham should hold firm on that. Yes, he had a poor season, but he's easily our second or third-best Shame to lose Kudus, but he's had a poor season. I don't think taking Sanchez in part-exchange is a good idea! Chelsea will be getting a great deal, and we will be getting worse, unbelievable!Rich: Feels like a no-brainer to part ways if we can get the sort of money his release clause dictates. It's been documented that we need to sell to fund purchases, and need to give Potter a chance to build his squad his way. It's either Paqueta or Kudus who has to go to raise that sort of money, and I think Paqueta has demonstrated a better attitude and quality, Kudus has been a no-show all season. He obviously wants to move on, and it's on someone else's stool. Let him go if we can get such a good price for him. Given this season's showing, £85m is worth grabbing and using productively on someone who fits Potter's Kudus was a breath of fresh air when he joined, but the drop-off in performance has been astounding. Down on goals and assists, but more worryingly has shown not to have the awareness of players around him, and has been too greedy with the ball. If he could be back to the level of his first season, he is quality, but I fear his head has been turned and he has wanted to leave for a while, resulting in a flat performance on the pitch.

Donald Trump's granddaughter Chloe, 10, could be the family's next golfing star following her sister Kai's success

Kai Trump may have competition when it comes to being the best golfer in the family - and it's not from her presidential golf-loving grandfather Donald Trump. Kai, 18, who's committed to play collegiate golf at the University of Miami, wowed over the past year whenever she's hit the fairways with Donald and showed off her skills on the course. On Wednesday, she revealed the next up-and-coming golfer of the family in a video on Instagram, where she showed her ten-year-old sister Chloe as she hit the range and fired a rocket of a shot with her driver - and finished with a cool club twirl. SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEO Chloe's impressive swing came as no surprise given her golfing pedigree. Her granddad Donald owned 18 courses across the globe, and he's also got a huge passion for the sport and frequently enjoyed a round at one of his clubs in Florida. Meanwhile, older sister Kai's got a bright future in the sport ahead of her and she's soon to head to college to continue her rise in the golfing world. She's currently a senior at The Benjamin School in North Palm Beach, Florida, but announced her commitment to The U last year. Miami's got one of the top golf programs in the U.S., previously winning a national championship, and Kai's set to be the new star of the school. Last year, the teenager joined the world of sporting influencers when she launched her own YouTube channel. She also regularly posted golf content, as well as daily vlogs that gave fans an inside glimpse at her life. Kai's the oldest of Donald Trump Jr's five children with ex-wife Vanessa, while Chloe's is the youngest. Kai and Chloe's mom Vanessa's been dating pro golfer Tiger Woods since March.
