Astros Make Move Immediately After Twins Game
The Houston Astros have won three straight games, but the last two came at a price. They lost infielder Isaac Paredes to a hamstring strain in Thursday's 4-3 victory over the Chicago White Sox and rookie outfielder Jacob Melton to ankle soreness in Friday's 10-3 win over the Minnesota Twins.

Paredes has been productive all season, leading the team with 15 homers and 42 RBI. Meanwhile, Melton had the second two-hit game of his career on Friday, including a two-run triple in the third inning. The 24-year-old finished 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run scored.

"The Astros are calling up infielder Luis Guillorme from Triple-A Sugar Land, source tells The Athletic," he reported. "Both Jacob Melton and Isaac Paredes are dealing with injuries, though Melton's appears to be more serious."
Rome later clarified that Houston has an open 40-man roster spot, but will need a 26-man spot.
Guillorme has a career slash line of .251/.336/.322 with five homers and 28 RBI in 414 games. The 30-year-old is slashing .245/.376/.310 with two homers and 21 RBI in 56 Triple-A games this year.

Houston is five games ahead of the Seattle Mariners for first place in the AL West and is 7-3 in its last 10 contests.
The Astros would clinch a series win over the Twins with another win on Saturday. Right-handed pitcher Hunter Brown (8-3, 1.82 ERA) will start on the mound for them against Minnesota right-hander Joe Ryan (7-2, 2.96 ERA).

Austin Reaves Wants to be 'Laker for Life'
Austin Reaves Wants to be 'Laker for Life' originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Los Angeles Lakers guard Austin Reaves has been sending signals all summer about wanting a massive contract. The deal won't be negotiated until next summer, but there is an expectation of what it could look like. Trusted Lakers insider, Jovan Buha, is reporting that executives around the league are preparing for Reaves to receive at least $30 million annually. That may seem like a hefty price tag, but that is simply the going rate for players of his caliber today. Reaves is arguably better than players like Toronto Raptors guard Immanuel Quickley and Phoenix Suns guard Jalen Green, who both are right around the $30 million range. After going undrafted in 2021, Reaves has blossomed into one of the brightest young players in the league. He has improved his scoring and rebounding in each of his four NBA seasons, a feat that has some fans convinced he can develop into more than just an elite role player. According to Buha, Reaves had interest from teams in the 2021 draft, but he declined those offers to guarantee a chance to sign with the Lakers. So, it is not surprising that Buha is also reporting that the undrafted star wants to be a 'Laker for life.' There haven't been very many players in the history of sports who have spent their entire careers with just one team, so in an era of fluid player movement, it would be especially unusual. But, there seems to be a love affair between Reaves and the fanbase, so it makes sense why he would want to spend his entire career in LA. Reaves averaged 20.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game last season on incredible efficiency as he played third fiddle to LeBron James and Luka Doncic. His stock among fans took a hit with a disappointing playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but clearly league executives feel differently. Luckily for Reaves, he likely won't negotiate a new deal until next summer to maximize his profits, so he has plenty of time to rewrite his narrative. Another strong season could grant him his wish of being a Laker for story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 15, 2025, where it first appeared.

Phillies' Jhoan Duran's X-Ray Comes Back Negative
Phillies' Jhoan Duran's X-Ray Comes Back Negative originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Phillies fans worldwide collectively held their breath Friday night when relief pitcher Jhoan Duran went down with an injury. Manager Rob Thomson brought the closer in during the ninth inning against the Washington Nationals, where he was immediately hit in the foot with a line drive by Paul DeJong. Duran would eventually have to be carted off, which is usually a sign of a long-term injury. It would be awful luck for the Phillies, who just acquired the former Minnesota Twin at the trade deadline a few weeks back. Luckily, after some initial testing, there is much more optimism around Duran's health. The Phillies announced that his X-ray came back negative shortly after their game ended, so he will probably be back sooner rather than later. However, Duran still isn't in the clear because he needs additional evaluation to determine the extent of his injury, if any. A negative X-ray typically rules out a broken bone, but the flamethrower could still have some soreness or less severe injury that could sideline him for a few days. Overall, it's amazing news for a Phillies team who is already incredibly thin in the bullpen, which was their main inspiration for landing Duran. He had been lights out since the move to Philadelphia, earning a save in all four of his opportunities and allowing just two hits, one of which being the hit that injured him. The Phillies are currently pitted against the New York Mets in a heated battle for the National League East title. Losing Duran for an extended period of time would have been difficult to overcome, but fortunately for Philadelphia, it doesn't look like that is much of a story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 16, 2025, where it first appeared.

Mets calling up top pitching prospect Nolan McLean to start in Frankie Montas' place
Access the Mets beat like never before Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Mike Puma about the inside buzz on the Mets. Try it free Nolan McLean will get an opportunity to inject life into a Mets rotation in need of a jolt. The Mets plan to promote McLean, the No. 37 prospect in baseball per for his major league debut on Saturday against the Mariners, manager Carlos Mendoza announced Wednesday. McLean is taking the rotation spot lost by struggling Frankie Montas in recent days. McLean, 24, has posted a 2.78 ERA in 16 appearances (13 of which are starts) this season for Triple-A Syracuse. The right-hander totaled 97 strikeouts in 87 ¹/₃ innings. Mendoza said his conversations with Syracuse manager Dick Scott throughout the season have served as an indicator that McLean is ready — physically, mentally and emotionally. 'There is a lot to like,' Mendoza said before the Mets' ugly 11-6 loss to the Braves at Citi Field. 'We all see the pitches. Everybody talks about the sweeper, the mid-90s sinker and all. But it's just the way he carries himself, how he deals with adversity, his ability to navigate lineups, the way he fields his position and controls the running game. I am excited to have him here.' The Mets selected McLean over Brandon Sproat, who has pitched at a high level recently for Syracuse after struggling to begin the season. 'Both of these kids were in the conversation, but we decided to go with McLean,' Mendoza said. 'I think that says a lot about where Sproat is in his development, the fact that his name was in the conversation, too.' Mendoza indicated the plan is to give McLean — who will be pitching on five days of rest after throwing four innings for Syracuse on Sunday — an extended look in the rotation, rather than just insert him for one start. Mets starters have struggled to work deep into games and there is hope McLean can help remedy that. CHECK OUT THE AND The Mets haven't had a starter other than David Peterson — who collapsed in Wednesday's loss — complete six innings since June 7, when Clay Holmes finished the sixth. Lately, getting even five innings from a starter has been a challenge, as Kodai Senga, Sean Manaea and Holmes all finished short of that mark in their respective outings over the past week. Montas, who lasted just three innings Saturday behind an opener, has been demoted to the bullpen, where he will work in long relief as he attempts to get on track. The right-hander has pitched to a 6.38 ERA this season. Mendoza downplayed the effect of inserting the rookie into the pressure of a pennant race against another postseason contender — the Mariners entered the day tied for first in the AL West. 'We feel good about him going out there and giving us a chance to win baseball games,' Mendoza said. 'At the big league level, you are going to be facing really good teams, whether it's the Mariners or whoever. You are facing big league hitters. There's always pressure. It's the big leagues, right?' If the Mets are going to reach the postseason for a second straight year, they might need a boost from an unexpected source such as McLean. 'Usually, there's been a trend that you have seen from teams that have done really well and won and won World Series in the past,' Brandon Nimmo said Tuesday before the Mets had officially decided upon McLean. 'Usually, it's an expected player making an impact. It doesn't always have to be a rookie.' Nimmo pointed to the impacts Mark Vientos and Jose Iglesias had on the Mets last season. The Mets held off on promoting McLean earlier in the season in part because team officials wanted to see improvement from him against left-handed hitters. McLean, a third-round pick by the Mets in 2023, entered the organization as a two-way player after he shined offensively at Oklahoma State, but midway through last season he became a full-time pitcher.
