CSFD hosts community at 2nd annual open house
CSFD had live demonstrations from its high-angle rescue, Hazmat, and special operations drone teams. Officials also honored local community members who went above and beyond to help others in their greatest time of need.
Chief Randy Royal said the open house is a great way for children to become more comfortable seeing first responders in full gear.
'It's a chance to interact with firefighters, especially for kids. It could be scary if we show up to their house, and especially if we are in our gear, because we don't look like a person sometimes,' said CSFD Chief Randy Royal. 'So we get the chance to show them that gear, and they get to see it.'
Members from the Colorado Springs Police Department, Colorado Springs Utilities Wildland Units, and several other agencies were also in attendance.

Northridge electric forklift fire prompts nearby evacuations
Los Angeles Fire Department crews are working to control the fire of a smaller battery-powered forklift inside a commercial equipment yard in Northridge. The fire broke out around 7:30 a.m. at the Sunbelt Rentals property on W. Napa Street. LAFD HAZMAT crews are performing air monitoring and evacuating the surrounding area as a precaution. Aerial footage showed plumes of smoke around 9 a.m., as crews safely let the forklift burn itself out, according to LAFD. No injuries have been reported.

Kansas City firefighter dies after serving more than 30 years
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD) is saying goodbye to a firefighter who dedicated more than three decades of his life to helping others. 'Today we say our final goodbyes to Captain Steven Vandegrift, but his memory and legacy will never be forgotten,' the fire department said on Facebook. KCFD said he was a member of the Kansas City Fire Department for 32 years, serving the majority of his career as a captain assigned to the HazMat Division at Station 27.
