Penance over, Bains pledges funds for road improvement near sacred sites

Amritsar: Punjab cabinet minister Harjot Singh Bains on Wednesday offered ardas at Akal Takht to mark the completion of his 'tankhah' (religious atonement) ordered for a song and dance event organised to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur in Srinagar.
Harjot pledged Rs 20 lakh from his discretionary funds, according to directives of the Sikh clergy. He also offered a month's salary as a minister for cleaning and improvement of roads leading to the birthplace of Guru Tegh Bahadur, Gurdwara Guru Ke Mahal, Gurdwara Kotha Sahib (associated with the ninth Guru), and Gurdwara Baba Bakala Sahib.
Bains said he would also make every possible effort — both personally and through the govt — for the beautification of the areas surrounding the sacred places blessed by the footsteps of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
On July 26, two days after the Srinagar event, Akal Takht summoned Bains to appear before the Sikh high priests on Aug 6 and explain why a tribute to the martyrdom of a Guru began with music and entertainment. In its 'tankhah', the Sikh clergy ordered road repairs and infrastructure development for the first time.
Speaking to mediapersons outside the information centre of the Golden Temple, Bains said, "Whatever I am today is because of the blessings of Guru Sahib. I have nothing to be proud of. The tankhah assigned to me by Akal Takht was a divine command for me, and with Guru Sahib's grace, it has been completed. I have offered a prayer at the feet of Guru Sahib seeking forgiveness for my mistakes and sought blessings, strength and wisdom to serve the Panth, the community, the country, Punjab, and humanity.

Revanth rules out vendetta politics, pledges focus on Telangana's growth

BJP municipal council chairman held on bribe charges
Jind: In BJP-ruled Haryana, the anti-corruption bureau on Saturday nabbed BJP leader and Julana Municipal Council chairman Dr Sanjay Jangra over an alleged bribe of Rs 2.27 lakh. His receptionist was arrested for allegedly accepting the cash. According to the ACB DSP, a contractor from Bhiwani, Manoj, filed a complaint alleging that Jangra was demanding a commission of 2.5% in exchange for clearing payments. On the basis of this information, ACB formed a raiding team and gave the complainant Rs 2.27 lakh marked with powder. When the complainant spoke with Jangra, he allegedly directed him to hand over the money to his hospital receptionist. As soon as the complainant handed over the cash to receptionist Satbir, the ACB team caught him with the money. The ACB team detained Jangra for questioning and seized a DVR from the spot. When Satbir's hands were washed, the powder turned his hands red, confirming the bribe transaction, said officials. A DSP-vigilance at Bhiwani said the contractor undertook work worth Rs 10 crore in Julana, out of which 50% was completed. The matter is under investigation and the suspects will be produced in court, where the entire case will be revealed, the DSP said. Dr Jangra has been living in Julana for 35 years, having opened a hospital in 1984, soon after completing his MBBS. Mumbai model files complaint against Khadse's son-in-law
Pune: The cyber police have registered a fresh case against former state minister Eknath Khadse's son-in-law, Pranjal Khewalkar, on Friday, following a complaint lodged by a 26-year-old Mumbai-based model. In her complaint, the woman alleged that Khewalkar called her to different hotels in the city between 2022 and June this year. During this period, the model alleged that Khewalkar, under the pretext of creating a portfolio for her, photographed and recorded videos of her compromising positions. According to the police, the complainant takes up fashion-related assignments in Pune and Mumbai. A mutual friend introduced her to Khewalkar, the police said. In her first information report (FIR), the woman expressed apprehension that these photographs and videos could be misused by Khewalkar. The police registered a case under sections 77 and 66(E) of the Information Technology Act.
