Limpopo mother shot during late-night trip, security guard arrested
A Limpopo family is seeking answers after a woman (28) was shot in her back near Louis Trichardt in Limpopo, allegedly by a security guard believed to be employed by a security company.
Polokwane Review reports that, according to the Limpopo police, the shooting took place at around 23:00 on Friday night as the family was travelling in a silver bakkie from Gauteng.
Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba says the shooting unfolded near the three-mile circle on the N1, where the vehicle was stopped by an unknown vehicle.
'The driver did not stop, suspecting potential criminal activity, and instead made a U-turn. The vehicle continued until they made another U-turn heading back towards Louis Trichardt,' he adds.
Ledwaba says shots were fired at the vehicle, leading to the injury of the female passenger.
Reports suggest the family was travelling with four children at the time of the shooting.
'The suspect was arrested at the scene and a Siga 7.62 rifle, believed to have been used in the incident, was confiscated during the arrest,' Ledwaba says.
According to social media eyewitness accounts, the family was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting will form part of the ongoing investigation.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Makhado Magistrate's Court today on charges of attempted murder.
The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, condemned the incident.

Justice demanded for runners injured by Cape Town driver in DUI incident
A Cape Town man is facing charges of driving under the influence and negligent driving after injuring two runners in Bantry Bay. Image: File A Cape Town man continues to make court appearances on charges relating to driving under the influence of alcohol and negligent driving, after two runners were rammed in Bantry Bay. The man made his latest appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court on Friday, where the matter was postponed for further investigation. The incident, which was filmed on March 30, was caught on CCTV footage along Victoria Road, Bantry Bay, and shows how the runners were hit, one of whom was flung into the air and landed in nearby bush and rock terrain along the coast. Police initially confirmed the man's arrest and that he was detained and charged. The DA's National Council of Provinces member on security and justice, Nicholas Gotsell, said he has since written to Police Commissioner Thembisile Patekile regarding cases of reckless and negligent driving. 'The DA notes the postponement in this case to August 12 for further investigation,' he said. 'We will continue to play an active oversight role and ensure that the police fulfil their constitutional duty to protect citizens – and that they do not neglect their responsibilities when others' lives are deliberately put at risk. 'This tragedy follows shortly after a Nigerian rapper crashed through a wall in Sea Point more than three months ago with no concrete actions taken by SAPS against the driver. 'Reckless drivers are increasingly using our roads as a racetrack. Video Player is loading. This lack of response raises serious questions about SAPS's bona fides and their commitment to public safety." The Cape Argus approached the provincial SAPS office for Patekile's response and await feedback. Earlier, Pedal Power Association CEO, Neil Robinson, said they called for justice to be served and were shocked at the number of lawless and poor driving of persons under the influence on the road. The incident also happened just a month after dental surgeon from the Eastern Cape, Dr Ncumisa Mdlokolo, was tragically killed by a speeding Ferrari while walking with her sister in Buitengracht Street. The driver, David Polet, is accused of being under the influence of drugs and alcohol and was arrested and charged and granted bail of R10 000 by the Cape Town Magistrate's Court. Judge to deliver final blow? Diddy's fate looms in New York trial
Judge Arun Subramanian presided over the criminal trial United States v. Combs, which started on 5 May 2025, in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. Sean 'Diddy' Combs is facing five federal charges: one for conspiracy to commit racketeering, two for sex trafficking by force, and two for transporting individuals for prostitution. He pleaded not guilty, and authorities are holding him at MDC Brooklyn under the inmate number 37452 054. Additionally, all twelve jurors (eight men and four women) are New York State residents. Over six weeks, prosecutors called 34 witnesses, including Casandra 'Cassie' Ventura and an unknown woman, known only as 'Jane'. Ventura, 38, said Combs forced her to participate in drug-fuelled group sexual activities involving urine and subjected her to constant physical and mental abuse. She also said that Combs threatened to send out sex videos to control her. Brendan Paul, Sean Combs' assistant from late 2022 to March 2024, testified on 20 June 2025 after prosecutors granted him immunity. Paul also said that he planned 'freak-offs', which he described as parties full of drugs and sex. He said the terms 'Gucci bag active' and 'Wild King nights' were code words for drug and sex parties, respectively. After six weeks and thirty-four witnesses, the prosecution will wrap up its case on 23 June 2025. Combs Global employees and an expert witness will testify during Sean 'Diddy' Combs' defence, which is expected to last one to two days. However, Combs is not going to testify. The judge has hinted that closing arguments could begin as early as 26 June 2025; it is anticipated that they will begin shortly after the defence is finished. According to federal sentencing guidelines in the United States, Combs faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years. If convicted of crimes such as sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, Combs could face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. 'The two missing men have been trapped inside the abandoned mine since June 13 and cannot be found,' says Vosman Police Station spokesperson Captain Vusi Mnisi. 'The site is extremely dangerous, and it is very risky to retrieve them. We are currently waiting to hear from the mine management to see if they will assist with recovery efforts,' he adds. This comes after a missing person's report was filed following one man's failure to return home. According to police, the missing man told his girlfriend he was going to Vosman Cycle near KG Mall but never came back. After attempts to reach him failed, family members were informed by an unknown man driving a white Mercedes-Benz that the missing man and another person were stuck inside the mine while three others escaped.
