Cherries development squad beat Bees 8-1 after 13-minute onslaught

Yahoo25-03-2025

THE Cherries development squad produced a breathtaking second-half display to dismantle Brentford U21s 8-1, with Daniel Adu-Adjei netting a hat-trick and assisting twice in a 13-minute onslaught that left the visitors stunned.
Brentford started the stronger of the two sides and took the lead in the 14th minute through Ben Krauhaus, who calmly slotted past the goalkeeper to give the Bees an early advantage.
Bournemouth came close to levelling before the break, with Adu-Adjei playing in Silcott-Duberry, but a sharp save from the Brentford keeper preserved the visitors' 1-0 lead at half-time.
The second half told a very different story.
Just eight minutes after the restart, Bournemouth found their equaliser as Winterburn rifled a shot from the edge of the box into the net to make it 1-1. That goal sparked the Cherries into life, and from that moment, they never looked back.
In the 57th minute, Koby Mottoh's cross found Adu-Adjei, who coolly tucked the ball into the bottom corner to put Bournemouth ahead. Moments later, Adu-Adjei rattled the crossbar, but Dominic Sadi was alert to guide in the rebound, extending the lead to 3-1.
Adu-Adjei then doubled his tally with another composed finish, before turning provider again, this time squaring for substitute Kian Tydeman to slot home Bournemouth's fifth.
The relentless forward completed his hat-trick in the 66th minute, finishing a precise pass from Remy Rees-Dottin to make it 6-1 and cap off a remarkable run of six goals in just 13 minutes.
The attack didn't stop there. Tydeman turned provider, setting up fellow substitute Jonny Day for Bournemouth's seventh, before converting from the penalty spot after Ashley Clark was brought down in the box to round off an incredible 8-1 victory.
It was a sensational performance from Bournemouth's youngsters, and particularly from Adu-Adjei, who finished with three goals and two assists in a display of ruthless attacking football.

USMNT's Tyler Adams out vs. Switzerland; Pochettino to rotate squad

U.S. men's national team midfielder Tyler Adams will not play Tuesday against Switzerland due to precautions around a foot injury. U.S. coach Mauricio Pochettino said Monday in a press conference that Adams would be rested in this friendly as the U.S. eyes his involvement in the upcoming Concacaf Gold Cup. Advertisement 'Tyler is out for tomorrow because he suffered a small issue in his foot,' Pochettino said. 'But I think it's not a big issue. Hope it's not a big issue. I think we can manage it in a good way and rest it for a few days, and then see if he can be ready for the Gold Cup. That is why he's not going to be involved tomorrow.' Adams played just the second half in Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Turkey, and after that appearance Pochettino said it had been a planned substitution due to the foot issue that Adams brought into camp from his Premier League season with Bournemouth. Pochettino also said the U.S. team would be heavily rotated for its second friendly in four days. The U.S. is entering the match on the heels of its first three-game losing streak in 10 years. 'Preparing for the Gold Cup, I think it's good to make some changes now and to give the possibility to other players to play,' Pochettino said. 'What I want to see tomorrow is to continue evolving the way that we started to play against Turkey. It's a continuation of this feeling. If we will get tomorrow after 90 minutes, the same feeling, I think the progression is there and I'm going to be happy. The result also is important. But I think now, with a lot of new players, for the first time and building a team for the Gold Cup, I think the focus is more in the process to improve than maybe the result. And of course, I think the Gold Cup is going to be both progression and results.' Unused subs that could feature in this game include goalkeeper Matt Turner; center backs Walker Zimmerman and Tim Ream; fullback John Tolkin; midfielders Sebastian Berhalter, Brenden Aaronson and Paxten Aaronson; and forward Damion Downs. The U.S. lost to Turkey on Saturday in Connecticut, but Pochettino was pleased with the effort and mindset his team played with against the world's 27th-ranked team, according to FIFA's table. Switzerland, No. 20, will provide another tough test for the U.S., coming off a 4-2 win over Mexico in Utah on Saturday.

Tottenham contact Brentford as they look to appoint Thomas Frank as new manager

Tottenham contact Brentford as they look to appoint Thomas Frank as new manager Tottenham Hotspur are close to appointing Brentford's Thomas Frank as their new head coach. According to The Athletic, the Lilywhites have made contact with Brentford for the 51-year-old, and hope to reach an agreement in the next 48 hours. Advertisement Frank is reportedly ready to succeed Ange Postecoglou, who was dismissed from his position on Friday after remaining two seasons in charge. The two clubs are said to have a healthy relationship and talks will centre on the cost of releasing the Danish boss as well as the backroom staff, which is expected to be around £10 million. Tottenham endured a disappointing 2024-25 Premier League campaign under Postecoglou, losing 22 of their 38 matches to finish 17th in the table. But the Australian boss secured them Champions League football for next season by leading them to Europa League success, beating Manchester United in the final in Bilbao. Advertisement That suggested that Postecoglou would continue as Spurs' manager, but the club chairman Daniel Levy made the brutal decision to sack him, which reportedly angered many of their players. Now Tottenham appear to be on the verge of signing Frank, who has done an excellent job at Brentford since becoming their head coach in 2018. He led the Bees to Premier League promotion in 2021 after beating Swansea City in the Championship play-off final. The West Londoners have since become an established side in the English top-flight under Frank, securing 13th, ninth, 16th and 10th-placed finishes. He has certainly overperformed at Brentford but doesn't have the experience of managing a top club like Tottenham, who will be playing in Champions League next season. Stats from Transfermarkt

Photograph: Nick Potts/PA Tottenham have approached Brentford over appointing Thomas Frank as their new head coach. The Dane is the club's No 1 target to replace Ange Postecoglou, who was sacked on Friday, and there is confidence that a deal will be struck in the next 48 hours. Negotiations are due to take place on the cost of recruiting Frank, who has a £10m release clause, and his backroom staff. The 51-year-old wants to join Spurs after almost seven years at Brentford, with c already in place. Advertisement Spurs have moved swiftly after parting company with Postecoglou, who lost his job despite winning the Europa League and ending the club's 17-year wait for a major trophy last month. The Australian's fate was decided after the chairman, Daniel Levy, looked past the side's European run and focused on a dreadful Premier League campaign. Spurs finished 17th last season after losing 22 games. That has not made the job less attractive to Frank, who will be taking over a team that earned Champions League qualification thanks to their triumph over Manchester United in Bilbao. Frank has established himself as one of the most respected managers in the top flight since leading Brentford to promotion from the Championship in 2021. They have steered clear of relegation battles and finished 10th last season. Frank has operated with a modest budget and has admitted that Brentford cannot hope to hold on to their best players if bigger clubs try to buy them. Bryan Mbeumo is expected to depart for Old Trafford this summer. It remains to be seen how Brentford respond if everything goes smoothly with Spurs and Frank departs. Kieran McKenna has been suggested as a potential replacement for Frank but it is not clear if he wants to leave Ipswich Town.
