LGL: Foundation for Erie's Public Schools
This week's Loving Giving Local donation takes us to Erie High School as we learn more about the Foundation for Erie's Public Schools.
The Loving Giving Local crew made a stop at Erie High School this week to learn more about the Foundation for Erie's Public Schools.
The foundation has been around for over 10 years, aimed at building the capacity of the school district to do fundraising for the schools and support their mission.
Every year they work to raise money for the school district and support the boosters and organizations for the sports teams and clubs.
'We help out with fundraising we run a couple of large fundraising events every year and we kind of have systems that give back to the district as well,' said Rick Schneider of the Foundation for Erie's Public Schools.
He said they do all types of work but it's all in continuing and fulfilling the mission of providing the best possible educational support for the kids in the district that they can.
One of their major projects this year is their classroom mini-grant that goes out to teachers all across the district.
'They support the work that the teachers are doing in their classrooms, lots of different things have been funded over the years. We have funded experience for students outside of school. And for teachers that bring families to the school doing cooking exhibitions with students and funded a lot of classroom enhancement things that teachers are working on,' Schneider said.
He said the $250 from Auto Express will in part help fund one of those classroom mini-grants for one of their teachers.
This includes things that might be outside the ordinary for instance, a quite comfortable reading area in a classroom.
'You know anytime we can bring Loving Giving Local to a school foundation, we know that that donation that we bring stays right in the school district, right in the community. And to learn today that our donation is going to go towards a mini-grant is going to benefit a teacher and ultimately benefit the students that they teach, that is what Loving Giving Local is all about. It's all about the community and this foundation does a great job with it,' said Joe Askins of Auto Express Resale Center.

Loving Giving Local: Rhoxon Productions
Movie enthusiasts will benefit from this week's Loving Giving Local donation. A local movie production company that sponsors a film festival is this week's recipient. Rhoxon Productions got a financial gift from Auto Express Resale Center. Rhoxon is an Erie-based non-profit independent film company that creates organic stories that promote a positive change. Besides creating art, Rhoxon strives to create jobs and educational opportunities in the film industry. 'Our last few projects have been about healing and about coping, and our next two are about revamping the social justice system,' said Katie Nixon, RhoxonProductions co-founder. 'That's sort of our creative endeavors, and we also create educational opportunities for people to learn how to do this professionally.' Nixon says Rhoxon has a vision of creating 50 new jobs in the film industry here. And she insists you no longer have to be on the East or West Coast to have a film career. 'No, the landscape has changed so much. Even Netflix has created their new studio out in Jersey. It's not just that you have be in New York or LA,' she explained. 'Erie is kinda a really interesting place. You have beach, you have woods, you have city, you have country all within 15 minutes of each other.' That landscape diversity, Nixon said, makes Northwest Pennsylvania the perfect place for shooting movies. This week's Loving Giving Local donation will help support an upcoming film festival. Nixon said, 'We started the only multi-genre film festival here in Erie. It's the Lake Effect Film Festival, which will be in September. So that money will go to help make that event possible.' After making his check presentation, Joe Askins of Auto Express Resale Center said, 'We're pretty fortunate to have Rhoxon in our community and they're already doing great things. So for us to be able to deliver loving giving local and to learn the donation we bring is going toward their film festival, that's what Loving Giving Local is all about,' Askins said. Thanks to the Fed's series of rate hikes in 2022 and 2023, inflation has cooled significantly from its post-pandemic highs, drawing closer to the 2% goal. This disinflation has occurred without severely impacting economic growth, suggesting the success of a soft landing. The stock market thrived in 2024, spurred by recent rate cuts (0.5% in September and 0.25% in November), and a notable surge followed Donald Trump's presidential election win in November, propelling indices to historic highs. Nonetheless, the outlook for 2025 remains clouded by potential trade policy changes and corporate tax discussions, which could impact business confidence and growth. The path forward holds both optimism and caution as new policies take shape. Want to invest in winners with rock-solid fundamentals? Check out our Hidden Gem Stocks and add them to your watchlist.
