Pujari urges Revenue staffers to call off strike
Pujari warned that if the employees do not return to duty, their roles could be abolished and the Revenue department may consider modifying its software to reduce dependency on them. The government appealed to the employees to resume work immediately to ensure that citizens are not deprived of revenue services.
Pujari said in a democratic setup, strikes should be the last resort and dialogue is always the best way forward. The proposal for restructuring the revenue employees' cadre has already been sent to the General Administration (GA) department for a final decision. He cautioned that mass leave is not a healthy sign, as it deprives the people of Odisha of essential revenue services.
Over 10,000 Revenue Ministerial Employees across all 30 districts have been on mass leave since Monday over a charter of 10 demands. The employees alleged that they had earlier staged a protest wearing black badges in July.
The State government had then assured them that their demands would be fulfilled within a month. Their demands include restructuring the revenue employees' cadre, an increase in the initial pay, health insurance of Rs 20 lakh, 100 per cent promotion in Odisha Revenue Service for Revenue Ministerial Employees, among others.
Earlier, Revenue Department ACS Deoranjan Kumar Singh directed the District Collectors to issue show-cause notices against those absent without authorisation. The salaries of the employees will be withheld for the period of unauthorised absence. The unauthorised leave period will also be treated as a break in service and recorded in the service book. Singh also said that the non-availability of field-level revenue personnel has disrupted key public services in the State and caused significant inconvenience to the public.

Trump's tariffs put Tamil Nadu's 20,000 factories, 30 lakh jobs at risk
India's knitwear capital has raised an SOS after US President Donald Trump imposed steep tariffs on Indian exports, putting 20,000 factories and nearly 30 lakh jobs at Duraisamy, Joint Secretary of the Thiruppur Exporters Association, said the district, with 2,500 exporters and 20,000 standalone units, contributes 68 percent of India's knitwear exports.'Last year we made a turnover of Rs 44,744 crore, which is a phenomenal growth amidst the COVID lockdown, the slowing down of the Western economy and the Russia-Ukraine crisis. After this, we got 20 percent growth. Thiruppur caters to the USA, the UK, European Nations, Australia, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and African countries, of which American business is 40 percent and Europe makes another 40 percent, the UK 10 percent and the rest is 10 percent,' he dependent solely on US buyers face the brunt of the crisis. Factories manufacturing core items such as undergarments, baby suits, and sleepwear are in 'deep trouble' as razor-thin margins make it impossible to absorb tariffs.'Buyers have instructed the factories to shipout whatever goods which are ready by 27th August while also asking to absorb a certain portion of the tariff which many have agreed to. But when the second 25 percent is announced for India, it is a huge blow as no one can absorb such a blow. This has put a hold on orders with buyer instructing no more shipment of orders after 27th August,' Duraisamy Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking urgent intervention. 'In the last financial year, while 20% of India's total goods exports of $433.6 billion were to the United States, 31% of Tamil Nadu's $52.1 billion goods exports went there. This higher dependency on the US market clearly implies that tariff impact on Tamil Nadu will be disproportionately greater than for most other Indian states,' Stalin that Tamil Nadu accounts for 28 percent of India's textile exports, Stalin warned that a tariff hike could endanger millions of livelihoods. 'Especially, our textile sector employs nearly 75 lakh people and with a 25 percent tariff and a proposed 50 percent tariff, an estimated 30 lakh jobs are at immediate risk. To mitigate this crisis, it is essential to address structural issues that have long hindered our export competitiveness,' he said.- EndsMust Watch advertisementIN THIS STORY#Tamil Nadu

Govt slashes competitive exam fees; CM vows to boost policing
Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Friday announced a significant relief for job aspirants taking two-tier competitive examinations conducted by state govt agencies, reducing the preliminary test (PT) fee to Rs 100 and waiving all fees for the main examinations. The announcement came during his address at the main state Independence Day function at Gandhi Maidan, where contingents of the state police, NCC and other groups saluted the CM. Various departments also showcased their tableaux to mark the celebration. Nitish said the relevant department would issue the notification soon. "Since we came to power in November 2005, the first step we took was controlling crimes and improving law and order, which remains the highest priority of the govt," he told the gathering, adding that a society where the rule of law prevails without fear was essential for progress. He highlighted the expansion of the police force from 42,000 personnel in 2005 to 1.10 lakh by 2022. A review last year concluded that Bihar required at least 2.22 lakh police personnel. "By now, we have further increased the strength to 1.31 lakh and are taking steps to reach the target of 2.23 lakh," he said, appealing for communal harmony. The CM described the caste-based headcount and economic survey as a landmark initiative, revealing that 94 lakh families across all caste and social groups had been identified as poor. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo "The govt decided to provide Rs 2 lakh to each of these poor families, and while some steps were taken earlier, it has now been decided to release the funds simultaneously.
