ReNew to set up INR 22k Cr hybrid renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh

Anantapur (Andhra Pradesh), May 16 (UNI) ReNew Energy Global Plc ('ReNew'), a leading decarbonisation solutions company, on Friday announced it will invest INR 22,000 crore (US $2.5 billion) to set up one of India's largest hybrid renewable energy projects in the district.
With a generation capacity of around 2.8 GW, including 1.8 GWp solar and 1 GW wind, and a battery energy storage system (BESS) of 2 GWh, this will be one of the largest RE complexes at a single location in India, the company claimed in a release here.
Andhra Pradesh Minister for Information Technology, Nara Lokesh, laid the foundation stone for the project in the presence of Sumant Sinha, Founder, Chairman, and CEO, ReNew.
In the project's first phase, ReNew will set up 587 MWp solar and 250 MW wind energy capacity, along with a 415 MWh BESS, for which PPAs have already been signed. The rest of the capacity will be developed in subsequent phases.
With a large BESS to be installed, the project will be able to supply power for up to 4 peak hours every day (non-RE generating hours), which will help the off-takers with peak demand management and enable renewable energy to be more firm and dispatchable.
Aligned with the Make in India mission, the project will be made up of 100% Made-in-India solar panels supplied from ReNew's solar manufacturing units in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and Dholera, Gujarat. Additionally, it will use state-of-the-art solar tracking systems to maximise the generation, and waterless robotic cleaning for solar panels that will enable considerable savings of water.
Commenting on the development, the Minister said, 'This project is directly aligned with Andhra Pradesh's Integrated Clean Energy Policy and contributes to India's 500 GW non-fossil fuel goal by 2030. This project is a testament to Andhra Pradesh's resurgence as a national leader in clean energy. We are building not just capacity, but also credibility and global investor confidence'.
'I commend ReNew for this project and would look forward to more such investments in the future,' the Minister added.
Sumant Sinha said, 'The state of Andhra Pradesh presents an attractive mix of investor-friendly policies, excellent transmission connectivity, and abundant availability of solar and wind resources. We are highly optimistic about developing large-scale renewable energy capacity in the state to contribute to the Prime Minister's commitment of achieving the target of 500 GW non-fossil fuel electricity generation capacity by the year 2030.'
ReNew has a portfolio of 717 MW of operational wind capacity and 60 MW of solar capacity spread over 10 sites in Andhra Pradesh. The company is dedicated to promoting clean energy-led growth in the state, and with this project, it will generate 1,500 direct and indirect jobs as it works in tandem with the government towards the state's target of generating 78.5 GW of solar, 35 GW of wind power capacity, and 25 GWh of battery energy storage, Sumant added.

TN faces trade predicament following US tariffs, Stalin seeks PM's intervention

Chennai, Aug 16 (UNI) Observing that Tamil Nadu's thriving manufacturing sector was facing a never seen before crisis following the 50 per cent import tariffs imposed by US on India, threatening millions of livelihoods across various sectors, Chief Minister M K Stalin today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi's urgent intervention and take all steps to navigate this trade predicament. Pointing out that 31 per cent of exports to US were from Tamil Nadu, he said this higher dependency on the US market clearly implies that tariff impact on Tamil Nadu will be disproportionately greater than for most other Indian states. In a Demi-Official letter to Mr Modi, copies of which were released to the media here, Mr Stalin requested his urgent intervention in this matter, in consultation with the relevant ministries and industry stakeholders and also assured of Tamil Nadu's full cooperation in implementing all necessary measures to navigate this trade predicament. While appreciating the efforts by the Union Government to achieve a mutually beneficial trade agreement between India and the United States of America and fully support India's position to defend national interests, Mr Stalin drew his attention to a matter of considerable concern to Tamil Nadu, as it faces severe implications due to the current 25% tariff and its potential escalation to 50%. He said in the last financial year, while 20% of India's total goods exports of USD 433.6 billion were to the United States, 31% of Tamil Nadu's USD 52.1 billion goods exports went there. "This higher dependency on the US market clearly implies that tariff impact on Tamil Nadu will be disproportionately greater than for most other Indian states", he said, adding, hence this tariff has significant implications for Tamil Nadu's manufacturing sector and employment scenario. The most affected sectors are textiles, apparels, machinery, auto components, gems and jewelry, leather, footwear, marine products and chemicals, the Chief Minister said. Mr Stalin pointed out that what was even more concerning was that all these sectors were labour intensive, wherein any export slowdown will quickly result in mass layoffs. MORE UNI GV 1310

Apple watch gets redesigned blood oxygen detection tech with pairing system

New Delhi, Aug 16 (UNI) Apple revealed a redesigned feature in its Watch Series 9, Series 10, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 related to blood oxygen detection, as per the company's statement. The official statement on Apple's website said, 'Apple will introduce a redesigned Blood Oxygen feature for some Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 users through an iPhone and Apple Watch software update.' ' Users with these models in the US who currently do not have the Blood Oxygen feature will have access to the redesigned Blood Oxygen feature by updating their paired iPhone to iOS 18.6.1 and their Apple Watch to watchOS 11.6.1,' the official statement added. Moreover, Apple Watch's oxygen monitoring feature was controversial in the past, as a medical technology company named 'Masimo' sued Apple for infringing its patents related to blood-oxygen sensing technology. After that, the US International Trade Commission (ITC) banned the import of certain Apple watches with this blood oxygen monitoring feature in 2023. Now, the tech giant is again coming with the new feature, as the US customs ruling gives a green signal to a redesigned technology that processes raw sensor data on the iPhone instead of the Watch. The official statement on Apple's website also noted the crux of the redesigned feature: ' Following this update, sensor data from the Blood Oxygen app on Apple Watch will be measured and calculated on the paired iPhone, and the results can be viewed in the Respiratory section of the Health App.' ' There will be no impact to Apple Watch units previously purchased that include the original Blood Oxygen feature, nor to Apple Watch units purchased outside of the US,' the statement added.
