Tina Knowles Reveals How Rumi Convinced Beyoncé to Let Her Onstage
Rumi Carter is the latest of Beyoncé's children to make a name for herself onstage. The 7-year-old has captured the Beyhive's hearts ever since she joined her mother and sister, Blue Ivy, on the Cowboy Carter Tour.
In a new interview with ELLE U.K., Rumi's grandmother Tina Knowles shared how she got permission to join the show. 'Rumi, for the last tour, just every day, said, 'I want to go out there. I want to,'' she explained. 'She wanted to experience it, too. And so Beyoncé is allowing her to do it this time. And I'm really happy about it, because she has fun out there. She gets to be a kid, and when she gets offstage, she's right back to being Rumi, the little kid, you know, the little 7-year-old, adorable.'
She also shared that her grandchildren 'love the stage' because 'they've grown up around it.' And that despite all of the media and fan attention on them, 'their mother keeps their lives normal. And they are just normal kids.'
In a recent interview for ELLE.com, Ms. Tina spoke about Beyoncé's decision to let Blue join the Renaissance World Tour back in 2023, which Beyoncé was initially apprehensive about.
'I encouraged it because my girls were allowed to express themselves creatively in any way they chose to,' Knowles said. 'If they wanted to perform, then they got to perform. I tried to encourage everything that they wanted to do—every dream that they had. So my personal two cents was, 'I hope you let her do it.' Her mother, being protective of her, thought she was too young. She was like, 'This is a heavy thing. It's 70,000 people out there sometimes, so that's a big deal for you to get in front of those people.' And so her response came from a place of protection, and mine came from a place of, 'Well, I would have let you do it.' And I remember saying that. But it wasn't my business, it was her mom's business. I just kind of helped the conversation along a bit.'

In April, reports surfaced suggesting that Beyoncé had significantly reduced ticket prices for certain shows in an attempt to boost sales. According to the Daily Mail, hundreds of seats remain unsold for Beyoncé's upcoming show at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium tonight. The renowned singer is currently in the UK as part of her Cowboy Carter tour, but she seemingly hasn't been able to draw the same numbers she did during her Renaissance World Tour in 2023. Reports suggest there are still over 500 tickets available, with the cheapest priced at £71 [$96] and premium seats going for up to £278 [$377]. Still, despite not pulling in the same numbers as before, many fans remain excited to see the singer perform and have been lining up outside the stadium since the early hours of the morning. Beyoncé is scheduled to perform in London for six nights, with each show taking place at the same 62,000-capacity venue she last visited during her previous tour. After her London dates, the singer will travel to Paris, where she is set to perform three shows at the iconic Stade de France. Much like the UK leg, the U.S. portion of Beyoncé's "Cowboy Carter" tour faced lower-than-expected ticket sales. At one point, speculation began circulating that ticket prices might be reduced to encourage more purchases. Several theories also emerged as to why the shows haven't sold out at the same rate as her record-breaking Renaissance tour. On one hand, fans voiced frustration over the higher ticket prices, which may have served as a major deterrent. Additionally, some concertgoers appeared to be less enthusiastic about the country-inspired "Cowboy Carter" material, which differs significantly from the songs on "Renaissance." However, perhaps most controversial is the speculation that Beyoncé's reduced ticket sales could be tied to her husband Jay-Z's past association with disgraced music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs. "Beyoncé isn't worried about her fans not supporting her, but some close to her are concerned about how casual listeners may have responded to the association with Diddy," a source said at the time, per the Daily Mail. "Beyoncé and Jay-Z see him as a thing of the past so it is irritating to some extent that being associated with him may have affected her ticket sales," the source added. Following the arrest of Diddy last year, an attorney named Tony Buzbee filed a civil sexual assault suit against the embattled rapper on behalf of a Jane Doe who remained anonymous throughout the case. The suit was later amended to include Jay-Z, with claims that the music mogul and Diddy took turns assaulting Jane Doe at an MTV Awards after-party in 2000. Jay-Z's inclusion led to several back-and-forths between the rapper's legal team, led by Alex Spiro, and Buzbee, with much of it occurring in the media. Jay-Z also vehemently denied the accusations, describing them as a blackmail attempt to extort money from him. Throughout the duration of the case, Beyoncé and her family remained united, even making several public appearances together. Ultimately, the case was voluntarily dismissed with prejudice, according to court documents filed by Buzbee. Following the dismissal, sources close to the family said Beyoncé felt "relieved" by the outcome. "Relief is too simple a word to describe what Bey is feeling right now after Jay's current legal issues were dropped," an insider told the Daily Mail at the time. However, had the case progressed further and gone to trial, the source claimed that Beyoncé fully intended to continue supporting her husband in court. Blue Ivy has become a major part of the Cowboy Carter Tour experience due to her starring role as her mother's backup dancer. As she rises to stardom, her mother is making sure that she continues to stand out. Earlier in the year, the pop star received approval to trademark her daughter's name, which PR expert Grayce McCormick claimed "reflects her keen awareness of personal branding and legacy building." According to The U.S. Sun, the Lightfinder PR founder also hinted that Beyoncé bringing her daughter on her then-Renaissance World Tour was an act of introducing her into the "public consciousness as an emerging talent." Further reflecting on the trademark, McCormick said it will ensure that Blue Ivy's name cannot be used for "unauthorized purposes" that "could harm their reputation or exploit their identity." She added that it would also help the family to "build a consistent and authentic brand narrative" for Blue Ivy regardless of what endeavors she intends to use it for.

Beyonce brings the Cowboy Carter Tour to London
The Cowboy Carter Tour has arrived in London with Beyonce set to kick off a run of six shows on Thursday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The 43-year-old singer, who just played five dates in East Rutherford, New Jersey, will perform on Thursday and then again on June 7, 10, 12, 14, and 16. Beyonce last graced UK stages in 2023 during the Renaissance World Tour, which saw her play five dates at the same London venue. So far in the tour, Beyonce's set has seen her perform classic hits such as Love On Top, If I Were A Boy and Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It), along with tracks from her latest album, which saw her move into country music, including Texas Hold 'Em, 16 Carriages and II Most Wanted. The Houston-born star has also been performing covers of The Beatles' Blackbird and Dolly Parton's Jolene. Doors are expected to open at 5pm for the show, and the singer has not had a support act on the tour so far. Following the UK gigs, the singer will move on to Paris, where she will play three nights at the Stade De France, before returning to the US to conclude the tour. Beyonce announced the London dates after finally winning the album of the year Grammy this year for Cowboy Carter, her eighth studio album, released in March 2024. The tour began in April in the US in Inglewood, California. She also won the best country album Grammy as well as the country duo/group performance award for her song featuring Miley Cyrus, titled II Most Wanted. The singer had previously failed to secure the best album prize with 2008's I Am … Sasha Fierce, 2013's Beyonce, 2016's Lemonade and 2022's Renaissance, and dedicated her win to Linda Martell, who features on the album, who was the first black woman to play the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. The 67th Grammy Awards, held in February, saw the singer extend her lead as the most decorated artist in the event's history with 35 awards. In March, the King hailed Beyonce as 'exceptional' during his online radio show, The King's Music Room, and congratulated her on her first album of the year Grammy. Beginning her career alongside Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams in Destiny's Child during the 1990s, Beyonce has gone on to have six UK number one singles and five UK number one albums. She married rapper Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, in 2008, and the couple have three children – Blue Ivy, Rumi and Sir.
