World has recognised yoga's scientific importance: LS Speaker Om Birla
New Delhi [India], June 21 (ANI): Extending his greetings on the 11th International Day of Yoga, Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla on Saturday said that the world has recognised the scientific importance of yoga.
'I extend my greetings on International Yoga Day. Today, Yoga has become the everyday routine of people worldwide,' Birla told reporters after participating in a yoga session held at the Parliament House.
'Yoga is the heritage of India, and the world has also recognised its scientific importance,' he added.
Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh led the 11th International Yoga Day celebrations in Udhampur of Jammu and Kashmir.
Singh met the army personnel in Udhampur and praised their efforts in Operation Sindoor.
'Your bravery is widely admired across the nation. I salute the valour and courage of the Indian Army,' Rajnath Singh said while addressing the event.
'The recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam was not merely an isolated incident from across the border, but a direct attempt to target India's social and communal harmony. We not only foiled their nefarious plans but also delivered such a powerful response that Pakistan was forced to kneel, leading us to announce a temporary halt to Operation Sindoor. As we have stated earlier, Operation Sindoor is not yet over,' said the Union minister.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday urged the international community to embrace 'inner peace' as a 'global policy' and make yoga a collective global responsibility.
Speaking at the 11th International Day of Yoga celebrations in Visakhapatnam, the Prime Minister called upon countries to adopt yoga not just as a personal or cultural practice, but as a unifying force for humanity.
'I would like to take this opportunity to urge the global community on this important occasion to let this International Yoga Day mark the beginning of Yoga for Humanity. Let this be the day when inner peace becomes a global policy, where yoga is embraced not just as a personal practice, but as a powerful tool for global partnership and unity. Let every country and every society make yoga a shared responsibility, a common contribution toward collective well-being,' the Prime Minister said.
The event was held along the scenic Visakhapatnam coastline, with Indian Navy ships stationed near the shore, adding to the grandeur of the celebration.
PM Modi was joined by lakhs of yoga enthusiasts, residents, and dignitaries from Andhra Pradesh.
Calling for a global mass movement through yoga, PM Modi said, 'Come, let us all together make Yoga a mass movement. A movement that takes the world towards peace, health and harmony. Where every person starts the day with yoga and finds balance in life. Where every society is connected to yoga and free from stress. Yoga becomes the medium that binds humanity together. And where Yoga For One Earth, One Health becomes a global resolution.' (ANI)

At least 22 Indian civilians and eight defence personnel were killed. On May 10, India and Pakistan reached an 'understanding' to halt firing following a four-day conflict. New Delhi's announcement on the decision to stop military action had come minutes after Trump claimed on social media that India and Pakistan had agreed to the ceasefire. However, India has said that the decision to stop firing was taken bilaterally and that there was no intervention by the US. The winner of the Nobel Peace Prize is selected by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. The five-member panel is appointed by the Norwegian Parliament. According to the Nobel Prize website, a nomination for the Peace Prize is valid if submitted by qualified individuals such as government officials, judges, professors, former laureates or members of recognised peace organisations. This includes 'members of national Assemblies and national governments of sovereign states as well as current heads of state'. Self-nominations are not accepted.

Revival of peace reflected in tourist footfall at Manas: Assam CM
Guwahati, June 21 (UNI) Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said the revival of peace across Assam was reflected in the rise in footfall to the Manas National Park and tiger reserve. He said this while taking part in the 11th International Day of Yoga held at the Salbari College playground in Baksa on Saturday. The event was jointly organised by the National AYUSH Mission, Assam, the Bodoland Territorial Council and the Baksa district administration. It centred on the theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health'. Speaking at the event, Sarma noted that yoga contributes to physical well-being, mental composure, and a sense of purpose, which accounts for its increasing global relevance and integration into contemporary life. He attributed the international recognition of yoga to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts, particularly his address to the United Nations General Assembly on September 27, 2014, which resulted in the UN's formal declaration of June 21 as International Yoga Day on December 11, 2014. Reviewing Assam's engagement with the Yoga Day, the Chief Minister recalled that the inaugural state-level celebration was held at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati in 2015, with subsequent editions hosted in locations such as Majuli, Nalbari, Nagaon, Kamrup Metropolitan, Dibrugarh, Dhemaji, Dhubri, and Tezpur. He expressed confidence that this year's event, held in collaboration with the BTR and Baksa administration, would invigorate the advancement of yoga in the region. Sarma also remarked on the significance of Salbari as the venue, observing its transition from a region once affected by conflict during the Bodo movement to now emblematic of Bodoland's improved conditions and administrative stability. The event, he stated, not only celebrates yoga but also symbolises the region's resilience and renewal. If we don't build here, we'll keep buying from those who do. The clock is ticking,' he said. We need to make this transparent. We need to show exactly how Indian society distributes power, exactly how Indian society distributes respect,' Gandhi observed.
