BAIC B30 to star at 2025 Festival of Motoring
Similar in size to the Toyota RAV4, Volkswagen Tiguan and Kia Sportage, the slab-sided SUV features bold exterior styling and will be available in front- and all-wheel drive configurations.
Targeted at buyers who want to escape the city on weekends, the B30 offers ground clearance of up to 215mm, giving it the ability to handle most off-road obstacles with ease.
In overseas markets, BAIC offers the B30 with a 1.5l four-cylinder turbocharged engine paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission. A hybrid version of the same powertrain is also available, delivering more power while improving fuel efficiency.
The cabin is fitted with modern technology, including a digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Like its Haval H7 rival, the B30 is expected to come with a long list of features, likely including wireless charging, dual-zone climate control and ambient lighting.

Nissan South Africa has announced price cuts of between 4% and 10% across its Magnite range, along with a R10,000 cash rebate on selected model grades. Nissan has also bundled in three-point seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, ISOFIX child seat anchors, ABS brakes with EBD, hydraulic brake assist, vehicle dynamic control, traction control, hill start assist and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Refreshed Mazda CX-60 rides high on refinement
We've driven the updated 2025 Mazda CX-60 range that launched in July. The antidote to mainstream choices if you value space, reliability and good build quality, the refreshed range introduces new under-the-skin enhancements that polish drivability and comfort. There are three Mazda CX-60 models on sale: the 2.5 l four-cylinder Dynamic and the 2.5 l four-cylinder all-wheel drive (AWD) Individual, each churning out 141kW and 261Nm, and the 3.3D Takumi, which channels its power to all the wheels. The former aren't as well endowed as the Takumi — an AWD humdinger that's powered by a hybrid 3.3 l six-cylinder diesel paired with an electric motor for a total output of 187kW and 550Nm. It's not a performance SUV, but the one to have if you want all the available tech, luxury and silkier progression. All models come equipped with eight -speed automatic transmissions. On day 1 of the launch event, we drove the old models first to Bakubung village in the North West. Using the N4 highway with its varying tarmac conditions, the previous generation car's ride and handling was competent on the smooth sections. It felt better than some of the popular alternatives, with tools such as an active cruise control, head-up display and more adding to enjoyment. The return journey home, however, was in the new model, the Dynamic AWD version. The updated model's suspension is made even better by softer springs and revised dampers. Whereas the predecessor felt a touch stiff overall, and more so on uneven surfaces, the new cars floated over the imperfections.

Checkers trials hi-tech shopping trolleys
The two retailers have been investing heavily in sleek store designs, cutting-edge retail technology and premium product lines. After initial testing by office employees at a Checkers supermarket in Cape Town from mid-August, 20 of the new trolleys will be made available to customers at two of the chain's stores, Shoprite said on Wednesday, without saying how much it had invested. Called the Xpress Trolley, the shopping cart lets shoppers scan items as they go, track a running total on a digital screen and pay directly on the trolley without needing to queue at a checkout. The screen also assists with in-store navigation. Shoprite said the trial was part of its strategy 'to become South Africa's most profitable and seamless omnichannel retailer'. Reuters
