Monday's briefing: Arsenal sign Zubimendi but no Vardy party at Rangers yet

Arsenal have signed midfielder Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
The Spain international, 26, moves to the Emirates Stadium on a long-term deal after the Gunners reportedly triggered his £51million release clause.
Euro 2024 winner Zubimendi had previously been a target for Liverpool and was also linked with Real Madrid.
Zubimendi told the club website: 'This is a huge moment in my career. It's the move I was looking for and one I wanted to make. As soon as you set foot here, you realise how big this club and this team are.
'I set my sights on Arsenal because their style of play is a good fit for me. They have shown their potential recently and the best is yet to come.'
Forward Lauren Hemp insists England know what is at stake when they play the Netherlands on Wednesday as they bid to keep their European title defence alive.
The Lionesses' backs are against the wall after suffering an tournament-opening 2-1 defeat to France to set up what is already being billed as a 'must-win' meeting with 2017 champions the Netherlands.
'This team, a lot of the time, we thrive under pressure,' said Manchester City forward Hemp. 'Obviously it's one of those situations. Every game we go into, we want to win.
'From how we acted in the last 10 minutes (against France), we know what's at stake, and obviously we want to get as far as we can.
'We are reigning champions. It is important to remember that and gain confidence from that.'
Russell Martin refused to be drawn on reports linking Rangers with a move for former England and Leicester striker Jamie Vardy.
The 38-year-old forward, who has seen a move to Genoa fall through, has now been heavily touted for a switch to Ibrox after leaving the Foxes at the end of last season.
Recently appointed Rangers boss Martin remained coy but refused to dismiss the prospect, when asked after his side's 2-2 pre-season friendly draw at home to Club Brugge on Sunday if Vardy was a target.
'I think I've been asked about so many players,' he said. 'Some miles away, some on the money. So basically, I'm not going to give you an answer on that.
'But I guess you'll find out who's real and who's not in the next few weeks.'

Russell Martin reveals six Rangers takeaways from closed doors clash and spots things that need work

Gers played out a draw with the EFL League One side at the home of the England national team Russell Martin reckons rocketing temperatures at St George's Park are the perfect preparation for Rangers when Panathinaikos crank up the heat in Greece. The new Ibrox boss took his side down for training at the elite home of the England national team and rounded off the training camp with a closd-door friendly against Barnsley. ‌ The 1-1 draw leaves Martin still searching for his first win as Rangers boss - but he was able to hand starts to recruits Max Aarons Joe Rothwell, Nasser Djiga and Thelo Aalsgaard. ‌ Lyall Cameron was also given his first run out in the second half with the 30 degree sun beating down - with Danilo getting on the scoresheet for the Premiership side before Max Watters levelled. Martin will now take his side back to Glasgow from the Staffordshire countryside with the countdown on the the crucial Champions League qualifier - with temperatures approaching 40 degrees expected in Athens for the second leg against the Greeks on July 30. Asked what he can take away from the game, Martin said: "Well, loads physically. "It's been so hot all week and they have trained so hard in the heat, and it was another good test, so it will prepare us for a game in Greece in a few weeks for sure. "But, loads tactically, understanding - some good stuff and some stuff we need to work on a lot. It was a really good exercise for us actually." ‌ Martin insisted he has seen improvements since stepping into the Ibrox hot seat - but concedes there is still a lot to work on as he seeks to implement his style of play. Speaking to Rangers TV, he said: 'We will analyse this game properly tomorrow (Sunday), we will travel back tonight (Saturday), but the week as a whole has been brilliant. "Loads of physical work in the heat, togetherness, more noise from the group - you can see the spirit grow, and it's been nice to see - and the work they have done on the pitch. ‌ "We are in a better place now than we were at the start of the week and that's all you can ask for. "There has been some brilliant stuff, and some stuff we need to work on. We see the process, but their willingness to grow and understand - I am happy about. "We will keep getting ready and be in a position to be ready in a couple of weeks. "We have two more games before Panathinaikos to get ready, for us to try a few things, and make sure we are ready and we are working. "It's all about getting ready for that game now and picking the best team that we think is right for that game."
