Popular analytics model projects Colorado football win total for 2025 season
As we prepare for the 2025 season, power ratings and projection models take center stage. We have gone in-depth with ESPN's SP+ and FPI, but there are also other projection models worth mentioning. One of those is analytics guru Parker Fleming (@statsowar on X), who recently released his model's projected win totals for every Football Bowl Subdivision team.
Colorado's projected win total, according to the model, is 6.1, which aligns with most predictions, as well as our own.
The Buffaloes' win mark sits at No. 11 in the Big 12 behind Arizona State (8.5), Kansas State (8.3), Utah (7.7), Baylor (7.5), Iowa State (7.4), Kansas (6.9), BYU (6.9), Cincinnati (6.6), Houston (6.6) and TCU (6.3). Colorado faces seven of those teams listed above, showing the difficulty of their 2025 schedule.
ESPN's FPI projected the Buffs to win 6.5, aligning closely with Fleming's model. Our Buffaloes Wire record prediction had Colorado going 6-6, with wins over Georgia Tech, Delaware, Houston, Wyoming, Iowa State and Arizona, and losses to BYU, TCU, Utah, West Virginia, Arizona State, and Kansas State.
Colorado appears to have six solid win opportunities on their schedule, making bowl eligibility seem like the floor for 2025. However, the abundance of top-flight opponents makes winning 7-9 games a challenging task.
Deion Sanders and the Buffs begin their 2025 season at home against Georgia Tech on August 29.

Notre Dame great Skylar Diggins continues to make WNBA history with quickest triple-double
Notre Dame great Skylar Diggins continues to make history in the WNBA, cementing her legacy within the league. After recording the first triple-double in WNBA All-Star Game history on July 19, the Seattle Storm guard hit the record books again on Monday when she recorded a triple-double in just three quarters, as the Storm defeated the Connecticut Sun 101-85. Diggins's two free throws at the end of the third quarter gave her 11 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in 22:51 of action, the lowest minute total for a triple-double in WNBA history. She also became just the second player in Storm history to record a triple-double, joining Temeka Johnson (2014). The Fighting Irish legend is the fourth player in the league to record a triple-double this season, and it was the 46th in WNBA history. In 2025 offseason grades, ESPN ranks Houston among NBA's two best
'No team did more to improve its chances at the 2026 title than the Rockets,' ESPN's Kevin Pelton says in his 2025 NBA offseason grades. Between the additions of established veterans including Kevin Durant, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Clint Capela, the NBA's 2025 offseason has been a good one for fans of the Houston Rockets. For a team that was already starting from a relatively high perch at No. 2 in last season's Western Conference standings (with a 52-30 record), there's a case to be made that Houston has elevated itself into the top tier of 2025-26 championship contenders. And it seems that others around the league agree. In ESPN's offseason grades, Houston is one of only two teams to receive an 'A' grade, joining the Atlanta Hawks. Regarding the Rockets, ESPN's Kevin Pelton writes: No team did more to improve its chances at the 2026 title than the Rockets, who added two-time Finals MVP Kevin Durant without sacrificing depth in the process. Give Houston credit for pouncing at a reasonable trade for Durant, then using a team-friendly contract for Fred VanVleet (two years, $50 million) to access the non-taxpayer midlevel exception. That allowed the Rockets to add proven 3-and-D wing Dorian Finney-Smith to help replace departed Dillon Brooks. Houston is the only Western Conference team to earn Pelton's 'A' grade. Latest update on $110 million DT, potential Patriots free agent target
The news that the Las Vegas Raiders cut defensive tackle Christian Wilkins one year into his four-year, $110 million deal was obviously surprising. ESPN's Adam Schefter provided context around an alleged incident that might have been one of the reasons why the team decided it was time to part ways. According to Schefter, Wilkins playfully went to kiss a teammate on top of the head, and the player took offense to that action. 'From speaking to people inside the locker room, I think what everybody's dancing around, and tiptoeing around, is the fact that when you speak to people there inside the locker room, they say that Christian playfully went to kiss a teammate on top of his head, and people said that player took offense to it," Schefter said on The Pat McAfee Show. Wilkins recorded 17 tackles and two sacks last season in only five game appearances for the Raiders, before suffering a season-ending foot injury. New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel stated last week that the team would have a conversation about signing Wilkins. He has some familiarity with the former first-round draft pick from trying to recruit him in college, when he coached at Ohio State. Wilkins racked up 65 tackles, nine sacks, two pass deflections and two fumble recoveries in his final year with the Miami Dolphins in 2023. If healthy, he could be a massive addition to the Patriots' defensive front.
