Over 1,400 caught for drunken driving
Hyderabad: In a major drive against drunk and driving, the Hyderabad and Cyberabad traffic police caught 1,423 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol during late-night checks conducted across multiple locations under Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police Commissionerate. According to Hyderabad traffic police, the police against drunk driving reported 1,185 offenders between April 26 and May 2.
Of the total 1,185 offenders, 1,010 were two-wheelers, 51 were three-wheelers, 122 were cars and two were heavy vehicle drivers. The police said that 68 offenders were found with BAC of 200 mg/100 ml and above. One minor and two women were apprehended while drunk and driving. 20 persons were between the age group 18-20. While the highest offenders were between the ages 21-30 with 484 offenders followed by 409 caught were of age group 31-40 years and 190 offenders of 41-50 years old.
Meanwhile, in Cyberabad on the weekend 238 people were nabbed driving under the influence of alcohol. Of the total 238, two-wheeler drivers were 187, three-wheeler drivers were four, and 45 were four-wheeler and two heavy vehicle drivers. The police said that 18 offenders were found with blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) ranging between 200 mg/100 ml and 550 mg/100 ml. All apprehended individuals will be presented before the Court. The Chevella zone reported 27 cases followed by 24 in Miyapur, Balanagar reported 20, Shamshabad 18 and Medchal 17 respectively.
In a special drive, to curb the drunken driving, police found that the drivers were engaged in both underage drinking and drunk driving. While the traffic police have booked cases against them for drunk driving, it is the law and order police who would have to follow up and find where these people bought their liquor.
The police urged the citizens that if anybody indulges in driving under the influence of alcohol and causes accidents resulting in fatalities, such persons will be arrested and charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), which carries a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in jail along with a fine, said the police officer.

5 juveniles try to kill minor for refusing to clean bathroom at observation home in Yerawada: Police
Five juveniles in conflict with the law allegedly attacked and attempted to kill a 17-year-old boy on the premises of the government-run Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Udyog Kendra, an observation home located at Yerawada. According to the police, the accused attacked the 17-year-old because he refused to clean a bathroom on the premises. The incident took place at barrack No. 2 of the observation home around 9.15 pm on Tuesday. The observation home authorities reported the incident to the Pune city police. Subsequently, an FIR was lodged at the Yerawada police station against the five minors under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 109 (attempt to murder), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 3(5) (criminal act done by several persons in furtherance of common intention of all). Assistant police inspector Vishal Takle, the investigation officer of the case, said the five accused are lodged in the observation home after they were booked in separate criminal offences lodged at different police stations in Pune in the past. Police sources said after the victim refused to clean the bathroom, the accused boys allegedly tore a piece of towel and tried to strangle him, the FIR stated. After receiving information, observation home staff and authorities rushed to the spot and rescued the victim. 'The victim was taken to hospital for treatment. He was discharged on Wednesday. We have sought the documents and other details pertaining to this case from the observation home. Further probe is on,' said Takle. The observation home was established by the British in 1889 as 'Reformatory School Yeravada, Poona'. It was redesignated as 'Yeravada Industrial School Poona' from 1936 to 1989. In February 1990, it was further redesignated as Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Udyog Kendra and turned into a care home for destitute children and in 2009 it became an observation home for juveniles in conflict with law. Police said clashes between minors lodged at the observation home have been reported even in the past. In August 2022, stone pelting was reported on the premises, following a quarrel that started when some juveniles were playing football. Also, multiple incidents of minors escaping from the home have been reported in the past.

Bengal porn racket case: Prime accused says she was framed, seeks fair probe
Kolkata: Shweta Khan alias Fultusi, the prime accused behind the West Bengal porn racket case, said on Thursday that she had been framed in the matter and her side of the story should also be heard. The West Bengal Police arrested her on Wednesday night. Khan will be presented at a trial court in the Howrah district later in the day. Earlier in the day, she was taken to the Domjur Rural Hospital in the same district, where she made these claims while speaking to the waiting media persons. 'I am being framed in the case. Let my side of the story be heard, also, and let the investigators check the facts. I have been arrested based on a complaint by the family members of a particular woman. That woman concerned is married and even has a kid,' Khan told media persons. After being on the run for quite some time, Khan was arrested on Wednesday night from a hideout at Alipore in South Kolkata. Earlier in the day on Wednesday, the policemen first arrested her son Aryan Khan and then her daughter Zoya Khan, a co-accused in the porn racket case. Based on the questioning of Aryan and Zoya, the state police arrested Shweta Khan, sources had said. The main charges against Shweta, Aryan, and Zoya are holding a woman from the North 24 Parganas district captive for six months and brutally assaulting her with an iron rod after she refused to participate in pornographic video shoots allegedly orchestrated by the three accused. Since Zoya is a minor, her case will be processed under the Juvenile Justice Act and referred to the Juvenile Justice Board. Aryan has already denied his involvement in the porn racket and said that he had a relationship with the victim woman who wanted to marry him. On Wednesday, police action in the matter was intensified after the National Commission for Women (NCW) took suo motu cognizance of the incident and wrote to the West Bengal DGP Rajeev Kumar, demanding immediate arrests under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The NCW also instructed the state police to ensure that the victim receives free medical treatment and psychological counselling. Additionally, the Commission has directed the DGP to submit a detailed action-taken report within three days. Meanwhile, West Bengal BJP President and Union Minister, Sukanta Majumdar, has alleged that Shweta Khan has close links with several senior leaders of the ruling Trinamool Congress.

Chhattisgarh police books 21 individuals for assaulting three people on suspicion of black magic
Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], June 12 (ANI): The Chhattisgarh police booked 21 individuals in Raipur for allegedly detaining and assaulting three people on suspicion of practising black magic. The incident occurred on the night of March 13 during Holika Dahan celebrations, but an FIR was registered only on June 9, following a directive from a local court in Raipur. In their complaint, the victims identified as Tilak Sahu, Naresh Sahu and Amar Singh Sahu alleged that the group of people held them hostage after suspecting that the victims were practising black magic at the crematorium of the village. The victims alleged that the accused looted their valuables, forced them to wear garlands made of slippers, smeared black colour on their faces, paraded them semi-naked through the village, rubbed chilli powder on bleeding wounds, and repeatedly tortured them even after they fell unconscious. Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr Lal Umed Singh said, 'On the suspicion of practising black magic at the cremation ground, a group of people nabbed and assaulted the victims. The incident took place on the night of Holika Dahan. Following a plea in court by the victims, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).' The SP confirmed that the names of 21 accused have surfaced so far, and a detailed investigation is underway, including verification of claims relating to witchcraft or black magic.
