Slow progress on Jaipur's pink toilets despite 175cr funding
Jaipur: Despite the Rajasthan govt allocating Rs175 crore in its 2025 budget for constructing 500 pink toilets state-wide to improve women's sanitation, Jaipur has made negligible progress.
Of the eight pink toilets sanctioned for the city—four each under Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Greater (JMC-G) and Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Heritage (JMC-H)—only one has been built, and it remains non-functional, pending inauguration.
The delay highlights a serious lack of urgency and coordination among civic bodies. JMC-H completed the city's first pink toilet, but operationalisation is stalled. Another unit in Jawahar Nagar's Gol Market is only 20% complete, with officials projecting a one-month timeline for completion.
JMC-G's progress has been worse. After six months of scouting, no land has been finalised. Proposed sites in Jhotwara Pulia and Vidyadhar Nagar were rejected at the zonal level. Current proposals for toilets near Satkar Shopping Centre (Malviya Nagar) and Nursery Circle (Vaishali Nagar) are stuck awaiting senior-level approval.
Ironically, densely populated areas like the Walled City markets till lack basic sanitation. Pink toilets are designed to offer key amenities—sanitary pads, baby feeding zones, diaper changing stations, and sanitary waste incinerators. TNN

In a bid to provide immediate relief, Air India announced an interim compensation of ₹25 lakh for the families of the deceased, in addition to the ₹1 crore payout already pledged by parent company Tata Sons. Waste-to-wonder: Noida Jungle Trail with tigers & camels set to open in July
Noida: A slice of the wild, crafted from steel and imagination, Noida's Jungle Trail is almost ready to welcome visitors next month. Part of the waste-to-wonder park project, the trail is set for a trial run starting June 25, with an official opening expected in early July. While final touches are underway, officials say installation of the main gate, a cafeteria, and paintwork remain. Deputy director (horticulture) of Noida Authority, Anand Mohan Singh, said UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath will also be invited for the park's inauguration. The 20-acre park is strategically placed to attract visitors from Noida, Delhi, Greater Noida and Faridabad. Built at an estimated cost of Rs 22 crore, the park is being developed on a public-private partnership (PPP) model by the Noida Authority in collaboration with a private company called Z-Tech. The company has developed similar parks in Lucknow, including UP Darshan Park and Happiness Park. Divided into four themed zones, the park offers an immersive wildlife experience. Gzb company shut 30 yrs ago but occupied govt land, fined Rs 111 crore
Ghaziabad : Modinagar Palika Parishad has slapped a fine of over Rs 111 crore on Modi Tele Fibre, a defunct private firm, for illegally occupying 25 acres of municipal land since 1984. Though the company, once involved in textile thread manufacturing, shut down nearly 30 years ago, it continued to hold onto the land until the civic body reclaimed it in 2021. A formal notice now demands payment within 15 days; failing to do so, recovery proceedings will begin, officials said. The case marks one of the region's largest municipal penalties. "The Modi Tele Fiber, which used to make textile fiber, was in possession of about 25 acres of govt land in C-Line, which was used for commercial purposes. In a land audit carried out in 2021 by the palika, it was revealed that the company was in illegal possession of the land where it set up a factory and dwelling units," said Ankit Choudhary, revenue officer, Modinagar Nagar Palika. In Khasra number 632, 2910 sqm of land was encroached; 1140 sqm in Khasra number 633; 1390 sqm in Khasra number 641; and in Khasra number 572, about 21730 sqm of land was under company possession. "The fine amount has been computed for the time period between 1984 and 2021, which has been calculated to be Rs 111 crore.
