JMC-G seizes meat worth 6 lakh at Jaipur airport
1 2 Jaipur: On Janmashtami, Jaipur Municipal Corporation Greater's (JMC-G) animal management branch carried out a major operation at Jaipur airport and seized 749kg of illegal goat meat that was being sent to Bengaluru Saturday. The seized meat, packed in 19 cartons, is estimated to be worth around Rs 6 lakh. Rakesh Kaloria, in-charge officer of the animal management branch of JMC-G, said he received a tip-off that around 5.30pm a large consignment of banned goat meat would be transported from the airport. Acting swiftly, his team reached the spot and found several cartons of meat. By the time they arrived, some boxes already passed through scanning, but after discussions with the airport authorities, those boxes were also retrieved, he said. During the operation, private security guards at the airport allegedly misbehaved with the municipal team, leading to a heated argument between Kaloria and one of the guards. Despite the disturbance, the team took the seized meat to the dumping yard where it was destroyed using chemical methods. Kaloria said, "To transport any kind of meat, paperwork is required, including fitness checks and details of the source. These people had no such documents, yet the meat entered the airport premises. How this was allowed is a big question." Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Residents of Ward 95 protest poor roads and sewage overflow
Jaipur: Monsoon rains once again exposed the grim realities of Jaipur Municipal Corporation-Greater (JMC-G) on-ground functioning. On Saturday, residents of Ward 95 staged a protest near Pinjrapole Gaushala over waterlogged, broken roads and sewage water entering their homes. The residents, fed up with years of neglect, put up sarcastic posters reading "Bhajan Lal Ka Gaddha," referring to the deplorable condition of the roads. They raised slogans against JMC-G and the govt, demanding immediate action. Local councillor Ratan Kanwar, from the BJP, was also at the receiving end of public anger during the protest. Residents claim the area's sewage line overflowed in the open for years, and the municipal authorities paid no heed. "Every time we call the municipal office, our calls are either ignored or cut. The councillor never once visited or showed concern," said local resident Nitin Meena. The monsoon worsened the situation. Streets are filled with muddy potholes and stagnant water. Parents say it's become dangerous for children to go to school, and in many homes, sewage water even seeped indoors. Hanuman Saini, Sanganer Congress Mandal President, said, "The BJP ruled Sanganer for over 20 years, yet the area remains underdeveloped. Despite it being the CM's constituency, officials stopped paying any attention to residents' complaints." Leader of Opposition in JMC-G, Rajeev Choudhary, added, "This isn't a new problem. Locals suffered for four to five years. We even held protests at the corporation headquarters and submitted a memorandum to the former commissioner, Rukmani Riar, but nothing changed." Rs 500 crore in UD tax still unrecovered, no action on outsourced firm
Jaipur: Despite ongoing efforts to improve revenue collection, Jaipur Municipal Corporation- Greater (JMC-G) has not been able to recover Urban Development (UD) tax of nearly Rs 500 crore pending since 2007. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The civic body has begun organising tax collection camps across various zones to address this issue but officials admit that actual recovery remains poor. However, no action has been yet taken against Sparrow, the private company hired to assist with tax collection, despite its consistent underperformance. A senior official, speaking on condition of anonymity, admitted, "We have organised multiple outreach camps but response wasn't as expected. The backlog is significant and we are under pressure to show results." JMC-G has been outsourcing tax recovery operations to Sparrow for several years but there has been no major improvement in collection efficiency. Residents have also raised concerns about company's inconsistent service, lack of follow-up and limited accountability. An internal review of the collection progress reportedly showed no substantial year-on-year growth, prompting questions about corporation's continued reliance on same outsourced agency. However, no official action or penalty has been initiated against Sparrow so far. JMC-G officials say they are now exploring alternative methods and digital platforms to speed up collections and reduce dependency on third-party contractors. However, with financial year progressing rapidly and revenue targets still unmet, pressure is mounting on administration to act decisively.
