JMC-G seizes meat worth 6 lakh at Jaipur airport
2
Jaipur: On Janmashtami, Jaipur Municipal Corporation Greater's (JMC-G) animal management branch carried out a major operation at Jaipur airport and seized 749kg of illegal goat meat that was being sent to Bengaluru Saturday.
The seized meat, packed in 19 cartons, is estimated to be worth around Rs 6 lakh.
Rakesh Kaloria, in-charge officer of the animal management branch of JMC-G, said he received a tip-off that around 5.30pm a large consignment of banned goat meat would be transported from the airport. Acting swiftly, his team reached the spot and found several cartons of meat. By the time they arrived, some boxes already passed through scanning, but after discussions with the airport authorities, those boxes were also retrieved, he said.
During the operation, private security guards at the airport allegedly misbehaved with the municipal team, leading to a heated argument between Kaloria and one of the guards. Despite the disturbance, the team took the seized meat to the dumping yard where it was destroyed using chemical methods.
Kaloria said, "To transport any kind of meat, paperwork is required, including fitness checks and details of the source. These people had no such documents, yet the meat entered the airport premises. How this was allowed is a big question."

Man flies drone over Pilibhit Tiger Reserve's core area; probe on
File image used for representative purpose. PILIBHIT: Authorities at Pilibhit Tiger Reserve (PTR) have initiated action against a man identified as Arbaz Ansari of Pilibhit city for allegedly flying a drone over the Mala Forest Range, the core area of the reserve, and posting a 30-second video on social media. Officials said the clip, uploaded from an account named Pilibhit Zone, was shot by flying the drone from the Pilibhit-Madhotanda road that cuts through the core forest. The Mala range has one of the highest tiger densities in PTR, and authorities said 'such filming could endanger wildlife safety'. Divisional forest officer (DFO) Manish Singh said, 'Ansari had neither police clearance nor forest department permission. Flying drones in the core area is a clear violation. The act is punishable under the Wildlife Protection Act. Filming inside PTR is permitted only to accredited documentary makers working on wildlife conservation. Such footage can even be misused by poachers.' He added, 'A case is being prepared and the accused is likely to be arrested. The range officer has been directed to trace his whereabouts.' ASP Vikram Dahiya said, 'Operating camera drones without police clearance is a cognisable offence. We suspect the video may have been made simply to gain traction on social media. The motive will be reviewed in the preliminary inquiry and strict legal action will follow.' Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
