Ashura, repatriation and GCC prep dominate Cabinet
Unity through coordination
The Cabinet began its session at Gudaibiya Palace by reviewing the measures taken by authorities to implement the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa for the organisation of Ashura.
The meeting reaffirmed that openness, tolerance, and unity remain the core values of Bahraini society.
Cabinet members emphasised that religious occasions such as Ashura are opportunities to strengthen national cohesion.
They welcomed the outcomes of the annual meeting between the Minister of Interior and the General Authority of Husseini Processions, along with ma'atam officials from across the Kingdom.
GCC summit preparations
Following the royal directives, the Cabinet instructed all relevant ministries to begin coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare for the 46th session of the GCC Supreme Council, which will be hosted in Bahrain this December.
The Cabinet expressed confidence that the summit would further strengthen Gulf cooperation and support initiatives that benefit all citizens of the region.
Crisis response praised
The Cabinet also welcomed the efforts of the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other authorities in facilitating the safe return of Bahraini citizens stranded abroad during last week's regional escalation.
The operation followed the directives of His Majesty the King and the order of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
Gratitude was extended to diplomatic missions of GCC and allied countries whose cooperation contributed to the success of the repatriation efforts.
Strategic focus
In light of the summer period, the Cabinet approved a temporary shift to a bi-weekly meeting schedule for July and August.
This adjustment allows more targeted follow-up on national priorities and international engagements.
The Cabinet also reviewed and approved several memorandums, including developments under the Government Priorities Framework 4.0, a transfer of Bahrain's share in the Bahrain Agriculture Development Company to Mumtalakat, trade protection measures within the GCC, and the results of national examinations for ninth and twelfth grades.
Additionally, the Cabinet was briefed on recent ministerial engagements abroad and Bahrain's recognition as a leading destination for events at the WOW Asia Awards.

Call for GCC-Wide Rules on Sign Language Interpreters
A GCC-wide push to regulate sign language interpreting has been floated following a visit by the Bahrain Deaf Society to Kuwait, where delegates called for formal contracts, rights protections, and unified training for interpreters. The chairman of the society, Sayed Hassan Al Ghuraifi, led the delegation during meetings at the Center of Community Service and Continuing Education. He said the visit aimed to explore ways institutions across the GCC might agree on shared rules for supporting deaf people and those who work with them. Talks focused on creating standard forms for managing interpreter work, formalising contracts, and securing legal protections for those in the profession. Al Ghuraifi said these steps would help improve service quality while giving interpreters proper standing in both public and private sectors. Challenges and Cooperation The two sides also discussed the difficulties faced by deaf communities, as well as by interpreters who often work without clear structures or guarantees. Training, job pathways, and recognition of qualifications all came up. The Bahraini delegation also visited the Maastricht School of Business in Kuwait, where conversations turned to young people with hearing impairments and how to prepare them for work through academic and hands-on schemes. Al Ghuraifi said the Center of Community Service and Continuing Education plays a strong role in community learning and training, and he welcomed the opportunity to lay the groundwork for deeper regional cooperation. He added that the society is looking to build on this visit to support the deaf more effectively across Gulf countries.
