Deported from US, bizman arrested in 30cr export fraud
New Delhi: Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police arrested Angad Pal Singh, a businessman, in connection with a massive Rs 30.47-crore export fraud involving forged foreign inward remittance certificates (FIRCs). Singh was taken into custody on June 2 after being deported from the US. Singh, who helped his father in the business of auto spare parts, was earlier arrested by Central Bureau of Investigation in another fraud case and was later handed over to EOW for his role in this export scam. Police said a case was registered in 2017 on the complaint of a private bank. The complainant reported that 467 fake FIRCs were submitted to the bank by their 18 account holders (17 firms) during the processing of their export documents. The fake FIRCs were for the period from Sept 26, 2013, to Oct 21, 2015. "Upon receipt of the FIRCs, the bank issued bank realisation certificates (BRCs) to the account holders, who availed trade (export) benefits from the office of Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the foreign trade policy. Google has removed the adult short video app XShorts from its Play Store after an Adweek report revealed that the platform—despite carrying a 'Teen' rating—was hosting sexually suggestive and racially offensive content, while also running ads from major brands including Verizon, Shell, and Amazon. XShorts, a short-form video app similar to TikTok, had been trending among the top five apps on the Play Store this week. However, the app's misclassification allowed it to sidestep typical ad safety controls, exposing top brands to reputational risk. Ad servers and demand-side platforms (DSPs) such as Facebook Audience Network, Amazon, AppLovin, Basis, InMobi, and Moloco had unknowingly served ads to the app based on its maturity rating. The incident highlights the complex challenges of digital ad placement in the automated, fast-moving programmatic ecosystem—particularly with emerging platforms that escape proper outreach from Adweek, DSPs including Meta, Basis, InMobi, and Moloco took steps to either block or reclassify XShorts. Meanwhile, brands such as Roblox, Puck, Todd Snyder, and &SONS tightened their ad placement controls or blocked the app independently confirmed ad placements on XShorts for companies including Audible, Walgreens, Microsoft, Popeyes, Starbucks, Roblox, Gatorade, Wayfair, Instacart, and Square. The app displayed both banner ads beneath videos and full-screen ads between videos. Although a Google search may still list the Play Store link for XShorts, the page now shows an error message: 'We're sorry, the requested URL was not found on this server.'

Amazon to restore 400M litres of water yearly to Yamuna watershed near Delhi
New Delhi: Corporate giant Amazon has initiated a water replenishment project for the Yamuna River watershed near Delhi, which aims to restore over 400 million litres of water annually. Announced during Amazon's Water Dialogues 2025 event in New Delhi on Thursday, the project aims to address the 'region's critical groundwater decline exacerbated by urban sprawl and over-extraction.' The initiative, implemented in partnership with ecosystem restoration firm Hasten Regeneration, will feature a groundwater recharge programme. It combines the rehabilitation of existing water infrastructure, including check dams and ponds, besides working towards the construction of new water-saving structures such as percolation pits and recharge shafts. Additionally, Amazon will be planting vegetation around these structures to prevent erosion, increase the moisture in soil, and improve local landscapes. Rehabilitation sites will be selected within the Yamuna River watershed. Hasten will collaborate with 2023 National Water award winner Arpan Seva Sansthan and Bengaluru-based water consultancy Clear Water Dynamics, selecting strategic sites within the Yamuna basin. Abhinav Singh, vice president of operations, Amazon India & Australia said that the initiative 'represents a significant step toward our goal to replenish more water than we use in India by 2027.' Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MP Sasmit Patra who was the keynote speaker at the event said,'The inaugural Water Dialogues... marks an important step in advancing collaboration around India's pressing water challenges... We welcome this effort to encourage greater private sector engagement.' The Water Dialogues event convened policymakers, including Niti Aayog's Yugal Joshi, water conservationist Anand Malligawad, and other stakeholders to discuss water sustainability solutions.
