Mission Impossible theme composer Lalo Schifrin passes away at 93
The celebrated music composer's demise was due to complications from pneumonia, the news outlet said.
This Argentine musician was among the first to apply a broad range of musical ideas to film and TV scores, from jazz and rock to more modern and complex techniques of orchestral writing.
Schifirin was at the peak of his career in the 1960s and 70s, when he produced several film and TV scores that are now regarded as classics.
In November 2018, Schifrin became only the third composer in the history of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences to receive an honorary Oscar.
According to Variety. Schifrin was nominated six times for Oscars including score nods for 'Cool Hand Luke' (1967), 'The Fox' (1968) 'Voyage of the Damned' (1976) 'The Amityville Horror' (1979) and 'The Sting II' (1983), plus a best-song nomination for 'The Competition' (1980), but he was especially well-known for his TV themes.
The famous 'Mission: Impossible' theme earned him two of his five Grammy Awards and three of his four Emmy nominations, bringing him lasting fame. It was used throughout the eight Tom Cruise "Mission" films that began in 1996.
The first of two 'Mission: Impossible' soundtrack albums became a best-seller in 1968, and the theme reached no. 41 on the Billboard pop charts, reported Variety.
According to the outlet, Schifrin wrote the music for more than 40 TV-movies and miniseries including the controversial 1966 'Doomsday Flight,' about a madman who hides a bomb aboard a commercial airliner; and the 1980s and '90s multi-parters 'Princess Daisy,' 'A.D.,' 'Out on a Limb,' 'A Woman Named Jackie' and 'Don Quixote,' reported Variety.
Other TV series for which he wrote themes included 'Blue Light,' 'The Young Lawyers,' 'Planet of the Apes,' 'Bronk' and 'Glitter.'
According to Variety, Schifrin's last major work was a collaboration with fellow Argentinian composer Rod Schejtman: "Long Live Freedom," a 35-minute symphony dedicated to their country that debuted April 5 at the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Donna, include three children (William Schifrin and wife Lissa, Frances Schifrin and husband John Newcombe, Ryan Schifrin and wife Theresa) and four grandchildren, reported the outlet. (ANI)

According to Page Six, Martin, during Coldplay's "Music of the Spheres" World Tour stop in Hull, England, addressed the crowd about the incident that unfolded last month in Massachusetts. "We've been doing [the Jumbotron] for a long time, and it is only recently that it became a... yeah," Martin told the crowd, hinting at the viral incident. "Life throws you lemons, and you've got to make lemonade. So, we are going to keep doing it because we are going to meet some of you," he added. The singer also interacted with fans, reading out signs from the crowd. Spotting one fan who had attended multiple shows, Martin thanked him for attending the show "three times in three months." "You were at that Boston gig," the "Fix You" singer said. "Well, OK, thank you for coming again after that debacle," he added, referring to the moment when Byron and Cabot were spotted canoodling on the "kiss cam" during the band's tour stop at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts last month. The whole drama began on July 16 when Andy Byron and Kristin Cabot appeared on the "kiss cam" during a Coldplay concert at Gillette Stadium. Byron was seen putting his arms around Kristin, and both appeared to quickly hide their faces after realizing they were being shown on the big screen. The woman was seen briskly covering her face, while Byron ducked out of sight. Their awkward reaction, as they tried to dodge the camera, fueled speculation of an affair after Martin joked from the stage, "Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy." The clip exploded on social media, forcing Astronomer to place Byron and Cabot on leave. Within a day, Byron resigned from his role as CEO, as per Page Six. (ANI)

The grand finale of the Miss Universe India pageant was held in Jaipur on August 18, where Manika was crowned by Miss Universe India 2024 Rhea Singha, taking over the title from last year's winner. After winning the show, Vishwakarma shared that she has two role models in her life, who helped her to win the Miss Universe India crown in Jaipur. While speaking to ANI after her victory, Manika stated, "I have two role models in my life. First is Sushmita Sen, second is my mother. I think both of these ladies are the reason I have always known Sushmita Sen as someone who not only says something, but also does it. From her Miss Universe journey to her life journey, every single word that she said, she has meant it and she has proved it, till now," she said. Apart from the Bollywood actress, she also credited her mother for instilling in her the values of integrity and action. "And same as with my mother, she has taught me that quality, that you don't just speak, you also act upon it, you also say it and you become the embodiment of it so that people know that a person is not just about what they say, but how strong we are as humans," Vishwakarma added. As for her future, the Miss Universe India 2025 said she aims to explore diverse opportunities that come her way. "I want to explore all the possibilities that come with it and not just go in one direction, but show people how much more can come with pageants to your life," she said. Vishwakarma will represent India at the 74th Miss Universe pageant scheduled to be held in Thailand later this year. Manika is originally from Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan. She was also crowned the Miss Universe Rajasthan 2024.

Los Angeles: Veteran star Pierce Brosnan, who famously portrayed popular British intelligence agent James Bond in four films between 1995 and 2002, has quipped about playing a senior 007 in the upcoming movie in the movie series based on the fictitious character created by author Ian Fleming. In a recent interview, Pierce Brosnan, 72, shared that he would consider reprising the role if an opportunity came along, especially under the direction of Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. "I don't think anyone wants to see a craggy, 72-year-old Bond, but if Villeneuve had something up his sleeve, I would look at it in a heartbeat. Why not? It's great entertainment.
