Prahari app replaces British era ‘Beat Book' for keeping records within police circles

Time of India26-04-2025

Prayagraj: The hi-tech '
Prahari app
' has replaced the colonial-era '
Beat Book
', also known as 'Gopniya Patrika', which was traditionally used to document details of religious sites, banks, historical conflicts, demographics, notable individuals, crime trends and local offenders.
All beat in-charges at police stations are now required to upload details of their beats on the app using their unique IDs.
Officials claimed that apart from maintaining the Beat Book manually, most officials are now working on the app for their routine work. Besides maintaining data and records, the app is also helping police officials to upload the verification status of arm licence holders, tenant and character verification under the citizen service scheme.
SP (Pratapgarh) Anil Kumar told TOI: "The Prahari App is a unique communication tool for policemen that helps to enhance beat policing and create effective communication between beat police officials (popularly known as halka in-charge) and higher police authorities."

He said with the Prahari app, the policemen can manage beat policing effectively through digital communications.
"The app also allows thana in-charges at police stations to easily assign and track activities and tasks allocated to beats. All the beat activities can be easily monitored by top officials at district, range, zone, and HQs, as and when needed," Kumar said.
Beat in-charges can update all information related to a particular area and share it with senior police authorities. Apart from sharing and updating current information related to crime and criminals, the app is also helpful in sharing the locations of crimes or incidents.
A senior cop said, "The app is an online mode to update required information and enhance
e-policing
."

Gujarat court denies maintenance to woman who willingly resigned from job

Ahmedabad: A court turned down a woman's application seeking maintenance from her husband on the grounds that she had willingly resigned from her regular job. The JMFC court in Rajkot had first rejected the woman's request for maintenance in March 2023 because she was gainfully employed. Four months after this order, she resigned from her job and filed another application seeking maintenance, but the court dismissed the second application as well. The couple engaged in the legal battle got married in 2017. While the woman is from Rajkot, the husband lives in Gandhinagar. The woman, who is a PhD holder, got a job as an assistant professor in a Gandhinagar college. The couple lived together for eight months, and marital discord began, resulting in the woman filing multiple litigations against her husband and an FIR against him and the in-laws. She sought interim maintenance from her husband, claiming that he was earning Rs 1.50 lakh per month. The husband established that his salary was Rs 66,000, while the wife was earning Rs 31,000 per month. He also claimed that his wife was a careerist, and she did not want a child, and therefore left her matrimonial home. Moreover, the woman had several FDs in her name, and she admitted that she had no other liability. Four months after the court rejected the woman's application for interim maintenance, she voluntarily resigned from her job and filed another application on the grounds that she was unemployed and did not have any regular income. After perusing the resignation letter and relieving order, the court said, "The applicant left her job willingly. She holds a high degree and was getting a good salary of Rs 31,000 in this job… Considering all the circumstances, it does not appear proper to grant the applicant's application at this stage. A final decision on her application will be taken after the final hearing by considering all the evidence."

ChatGPT goes down: Internet erupts with hilarious reactions and memes

Image credits: X When it was launched in 2022, ChatGPT was like an unwelcomed and unannounced guest that nobody really cared for except tech enthusiasts. Over the years, the AI platform has become a vital part of everyone's lives. From work emails to personal messages, from relationship advice to family arguments, there's not much people don't ask ChatGPT about.
