Indian Express02-05-2025

Actor Amar Talwar, who shared screen space with Shah Rukh Khan in their 2001 blockbuster Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, took fans down the memory lane recently. He shared the superstar's rare, unseen pictures from his college days on social media, even before he entered Bollywood and became a star. The photos have now gone viral, sending everyone in a wave of nostalgia.
Talwar also revealed that the snaps are from when they knew each other in 1990. Sharing monochrome picture of SRK on Facebook, he wrote, 'Going through my old pics, came across these i'd clicked of Shahrukh Khan with my son, Manoj – Tally to the world – sometime around 1990, before Shahrukh's departure for Bollywood. Shahrukh and i had acted in a couple of TAG (Barry John's Theatre Action Group) plays together – 'Rough Crossing' and 'Who's Life Is It Anyway' and then in a third play, 'Lend Me A Tenor' Barry cast me in the role he originally wanted Shahrukh to play but by then Shahrukh had left for Mumbai, Bollywood…and the rest is history – i guess!'

‘Shah Rukh Khan and I hit it off immediately': Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos on his equation with the Bollywood star

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos opened up about his friendship with Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan. In an interview with Nikhil Kamath, Ted talked about how Shah Rukh was one of the first celebrities he met as soon as he came to India before the release of the OTT platform's first Indian series, Sacred Games, in 2018. (Also Read: Ed Sheeran drops new song Sapphire with desi beats, Arijit Singh vocals. All Shah Rukh Khan fans care about is his cameo) Ted was asked to name an Indian celebrity who's his 'favourite' and he said that he shares a good equation with Shah Rukh. He recollected, 'Early in coming to India, I met Shah Rukh Khan right away. He hosted a very nice dinner for me, and we hit it off immediately. I've come back since, with my wife, and we've had nice times together. We visited each other in Los Angeles when his son was in school. So, having dinner with Shah Rukh Khan in India is much different than having dinner with him in Los Angeles.' Shah Rukh's son Aryan Khan's The Ba***ds of Bollywood will soon drop on Netflix. In the same interview, Ted mentioned that he was also bowled over by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his 2024 show Heeramandi, which he says felt like a 'dare'. He said, 'Doing Heeramandi was probably one of the most creatively interesting projects I've ever worked on in India. He (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) came in with his very big vision, almost like it was a dare. I dare you to make this, it's so big. And remember, he's a cinema legend. So, the idea that he was gonna make a TV show is almost unheard of. I think he came for us to say no. And when we said yes, it was a complicated production.' Shah Rukh was last seen in the 2023 films Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki. He is now shooting for King, with director Siddharth Anand, his daughter Suhana Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan as his co-stars.

It's been a refreshing challenge: Karan Johar on making his debut on audio platform

Mumbai, Filmmaker Karan Johar says hosting his debut podcast series, Live Your Best Life with Karan Johar, turned out to be a 'unique' and 'therapeutic' experience. Through the audio series, audiences will get to listen to the filmmaker's conversations with his inner circle on how to truly live your best life in today's fast-paced world. 'At my core, I'm a storyteller, I'm always excited to experiment with new mediums and formats. Venturing into the world of audio has been a unique experience - it's like discovering a new canvas to paint on. There's a different freedom that comes with audio storytelling. "Without the visual element, I've had to rely on the power of words to weave a narrative that captivates the listener's imagination. It's been a refreshing challenge, and I love those,' the filmmaker told PTI. Johar, the director of commercial blockbusters such as "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai", "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham...", "My Name Is Khan" and "Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani", said he was amazed by the intimacy the audio format offers. "When people listen to podcasts or audio content, they're often doing so in a very personal space – their cars, their homes, their headphones. It's a one-on-one connection, and that intimacy has allowed me to connect with my audience in a way that feels almost therapeutic. "It's been an incredible learning curve, and I feel like I've grown as a storyteller because of it.' The show has an exciting mix of guests, including Konkona Sen Sharma, Richa Chadha, Ali Fazal, and Zakir Khan, among others. Johar said each guest brought their unique perspective and experiences to the show. 'One significant moment where I felt whole, conversing with Zakir Khan. What I admire most about Zakir is his ability to find humour in life's challenges and his candidness about his struggles. He's someone who wears his heart on his sleeve, and his stories are infused with valuable life lessons about perseverance, self-awareness, and the importance of staying true to oneself. I aspire to adopt that for my life,' he said. 'Live Your Best Life with Karan Johar' is available on the Audible app.
