Indians are cutting ties with Turkey over the country's open support to Pakistan in the ongoing tensions with India.
A 'ban Turkey' campaign has taken shape in India after Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan openly supported Pakistan as it continued to attack India with missiles, drones, and fighter planes. Moreover, Pakistan used Turkish drones in large numbers to attack India.
The sectors expected to be hardest are tourism and hospitality and agricultural exports.

Turkey's support to Pakistan
Turkey is supporting Pakistan's anti-India campaign in two ways.
Firstly, Turkey has provided drones to Pakistan that the country has used to attack India.
India has said that Pakistan has attacked India with Turkey-made Songar and Yiha drones.
Pakistan has also used Chinese fighter planes and missiles, such as the PL-15, in attacks on India.
Secondly, Turkey has supported Pakistan diplomatically. Turkish President Erdogan has extended unconditional support to Pakistan.
Incidentally, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was in Turkey on a visit on the day terrorists killed 26 people in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. He and Erdogan used the visit to raise the Kashmir issue even as the Pahalgam attack was unfolding.
After India launched Operation Sindoor, Erdogan said that Turkey 'took a very clear stance' on 'missile strikes targeting Pakistan'. He further declared 'open support' for 'the brotherly people of Pakistan' and vowed to stand with them in times good and bad.
India's boycott Turkey movement
The unofficial movement to boycott Turkey has picked up pace in India with parties in the tourism, hospitality, and agriculture sectors taking the lead.
A number of leading tourism agencies have snapped ties with Turkey. This can deal a blow to Turkey's booming tourism and hospitality industry.
Turkey's tourism and hospital sectors contribute around $140 billion to the economy and Indians comprise around 0.5 per cent of all tourists. However, Indian tourists among the fastest-growing segments for Turkey's tourism industry. In recent years, the country had become particularly popular for destination weddings and corporate meetings, conferences, retreats, and exhibitions. Last year, Indians tourists to the country grew by around 20 per cent year-on-year.

‘DMK alliance is intact in Tamil Nadu'

The INDIA alliance led by Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in Tamil Nadu is firm and no party will exit the alliance, claimed the alliance parties at the CPI State Conference on Saturday. On the second day of the conference, leaders of INDIA alliance parties including Congress, MDMK, CPI(M), KMDK, TVK, IUML, and MMK participated. Tamilaga Valvurimai Katchi (TVK) president T. Velmurugan said even though Left parties were in the DMK alliance, they were not accepting all the laws brought by the government. They raised their voice and pointed out the mistakes. The parties in the DMK alliance would not exit the alliance for seats or other benefits, Mr. Velmurugan added. Kongunadu Makkal Desia Katchi (KMDK) general secretary E.R. Eswaran said as there was democracy in Tamil Nadu, even the alliance parties protested against the government. Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary P. Shanmugam said the BJP government was acting against the Indian Constitution and attacking its basic concepts of democracy, secularism, and federalism. Through new laws, the Centre was allegedly grabbing the rights of people. Fortunately, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP did not get the majority and they were unable to change the Constitution. All democratic forces should be united to unseat the BJP government and Communists would work for this. The Communists always fought for the welfare of workers, be it Samsung workers or conservancy workers and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin also knew this., Mr. Shanmugam added. Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K. Selvaperunthagai said whenever democracy was in danger, the Communists would raise their voice. Until Congress, Communists, and other democratic forces were in Tamil Nadu, the BJP would be defeated.

Punjab: AAP MP Kang urges MEA to act on stranded Indians in Spain

Chandigarh, A Lok Sabha MP from Punjab, Malvinder Singh Kang, has written to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, seeking his urgent intervention to resolve the problems being faced by several Indian nationals stranded in Spain due to delays in passport renewal and re-issuance at the Indian Consulate there. Punjab: AAP MP Kang urges MEA to act on stranded Indians in Spain In the letter, Kang said routine matters such as damaged, lost, or expired passports have escalated into a "humanitarian emergency", leaving countless citizens, including many from Punjab, stranded in Spain for more than six months. These individuals, the MP from Sri Anandpur Sahib claimed, are being deprived of their fundamental right to mobility and reunion with their families. "The viral spread of poignant videos showing desperate applicants at the Consulate's doors captures their anguish and highlights the scale of suffering. "Some of those affected face grave medical conditions requiring urgent treatment, while others are battling heart-wrenching family emergencies," Kang wrote. The A MP cautioned that the persistent bottlenecks in passport processing not only inflict unbearable hardships on citizens abroad, but also undermine India's reputation as a "compassionate" and "efficient" guardian of its global diaspora. He urged the MEA to direct the Consulate in Spain to overhaul its processes, prioritise pending cases, and ensure swift passport services. "I strongly request @DrSJaishankar Ji's urgent intervention as thousands of Indians, including many from Punjab, have been stranded in Spain for the last six months due to delays in passport renewal and re-issuance at our Consulate. "Many face critical medical needs or family tragedies. A viral video captures their anguish. Swift and decisive clearance of all pending cases is essential to end their suffering, uphold their dignity, and reunite them with their families," Kang said in a post on X. He also assured the ministry of full cooperation in bridging the connections with those impacted, and providing further details as and when needed. The A MP expressed confidence that swift action by the government would ease the burden of the affected individuals, reaffirm India's commitment to responsive governance, and safeguard the dignity and well-being of its citizens abroad. At home, Trump gets panned for 'surrendering' to Putin

Photo/Agencies TOI correspondent from Washington: Absent a formal agreement, statements or read-outs, analysts unpacked everything from choreography of the arrival to body language at the meeting to read the tea leaves, with the broad consensus being Putin conceded nothing while overcoming his pariah status in the west with a meeting on American territory. Some critics described Trump's effort as "low energy," recalling his warning that he would walk out if the talks if Putin was not conciliatory and his claim that he would know within two minutes of meeting if the Russian leader was ready to make a deal. But after nearly three hours of talks, Putin appeared to have engaged the realtor-turned-President as salesman or messenger for relaying his terms to EU leaders and Zelensky, while tacitly making his way back to the global mainstream. Trump repeatedly referred to Putin as "Vladimir" and exuded friendly vibes -- even deference -- towards the Russian leader, in contrast to the intimidation he subjects many other leaders to. Putin too cosied up to Trump, endorsing the US President's claim that there would have been no war if he (Trump), rather than Biden, had won a second term in 2020. When Trump suggested that they will probably be seeing each other again very soon, the Russian leader quickly interjected with "Next time in Moscow." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like ‍♂️ Explore How Local Spa Salons Create a Calming Experience SpellRock Undo Trump: "I'll get a little heat on that one... but I could see it possibly happening." Earlier, Trump warmly welcomed Putin at the Elmendorf Air Force Base (AFB), clapping as the Russia leader alighted from his plane and walked a red carpet that looked as if it had been retrieved from a thrift store and rolled out. Putin, who has a black belt in judo, held firm as Trump, who towered several inches above him, rolled out his "yank shake." It was the Russian leader's first formal visit to the US since 2007 -- not counting a trip to the United Nations in 2015 -- and it effectively ended his isolation in the west. Putin has visited India half a dozen times in the same period, including as state guest for India's Republic Day in 2007, and three visits tied to the annual Russia-India summit. While MAGA partisans saw Trump's glad-handling, a flypast by a B-2 stealth bomber flanked by four F-35s, and a line-up of F-22 Raptors on the tarmac as "power moves" and "epic flex" by the US President, critics saw it as a sign of undeserving respect for the visiting dignitary. Both leaders looked up to the sky to see the timed fly-past with Trump trying to say something to Putin over the roar of the jets before they took the Presidential limousine nicknamed the "Beast" for talks that extended longer than anticipated given lack of clear outcome. Critics, mostly on the Democratic/Moderate/Liberal spectrum, excoriated Trump for "folding" before the Russian leader, saying the meeting was high on optics but low on substance, and it would eventually result in throwing Ukraine under the bus. But many MAGA faithful argued that there was no compelling reason the US has to carry the burden of European insecurity and treat Russia, an Arctic neighbor, as an enemy, and concessions by Ukraine and EU was inevitable if there has to be peace.
