Country singer Conner Smith involved in fatal truck-pedestrian crash in Nashville
'The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian. He showed no signs of impairment,' the Metro Nashville Police Department said in a news release. 'There are no charges at present as the investigation continues.'
The woman, identified as Dorothy Dobbins, lived nearby, according to police. She was walking in a marked crosswalk at the time of the collision, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. Dobbins died at nearby Vanderbilt University Medical Center, police said.
The viral 'I Hate Alabama' singer saw his 2023 tune 'Creek Will Rise' climb onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart in early 2024. He has been a special guest on Luke Bryan's Farm Tour, an annual effort aimed at bringing what Bryan calls 'big city' country music to rural areas. Farm Tour 2025 hit California's Merced, Fresno and Kern counties in May and will play three Midwest shows in September.
'His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins' family during this incredibly difficult time,' Smith's attorney told TMZ in a statement that acknowledged the singer's involvement in the crash and indicated he was cooperating with authorities.
Smith is among the acts scheduled to open for Bryan this Saturday in Florida at the Boston Red Sox 'Fenway South' spring-training facility in Fort Myers. He has shows booked around the country through the summer, including opening for 'In Case You Didn't Know' singer Brett Young on Aug. 8 at the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa.

These groups have given us performances so good, that some have even gone on to become real-life bands. Sorry to your favourite rock legends, but I'll take a Big Time Rush hook over a Rolling Stones riff any day. Here are 12 movie and TV bands that are so iconic, they make actual bands look like amateurs. Huntr/x from Kpop Demon Hunters (2025) are pure queens. A K-pop girl group who double as demon slayers? Yeah, they're eating up the competition. Literally! They just became the first girl group to hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 since Destiny's Child in 2001. Their songs are total bops (especially "Golden"), that Netflix even hosted sing-along screenings for fans. The Archies from The Archie Show (1968) were bubblegum pop royalty. Did you know that these comic book characters (turned TV stars) are responsible for the hit track "Sugar, Sugar"? It spent 22 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and is still the ultimate '60s teen anthem. If your parents haven't heard of this track, I'd be very surprised. The Cheetah Girls from The Cheetah Girls (2003) were the ultimate Disney girl group. The movie was super campy, the songs slapped, and yet — the movie flopped at the time. Honestly, it was just too ahead of its time — a story about the government using subliminal messages in music was A LOT for audiences back then. Today? It's a total cult classic! The soundtrack still hit its mark, climbing to No.16 on the Billboard soundtrack charts at the time. The New Directions from Glee (2009-2015) were the ultimate glee club, period. Their cover of "Don't Stop Believin" hit No.4 on the Billboard Hot 100 back in 2009 — and that was just the beginning. The show was hilarious, unhinged, sometimes problematic, but always packed with amazing covers and original songs. The group even went on tour and had a concert movie. These stars were more than just a TV band, they were a cultural phenomenon. Pink Slip from Freaky Friday (2003) gave us the Lindsay Lohan pop-punk moment we didn't even know we needed. Big Time Rush from Big Time Rush (2009-2013) started out as a fake boyband and somehow became real. They toured arenas, released three Billboard 200 top-20 albums, and even had Snoop Dogg feature on one of their hits, "Boyfriend." These boys were so famous at the time that they even had One Direction open up for them. The show was hilarious, but the music? Legendary. The Barden Bellas from Pitch Perfect (2012) basically made a cappella cool again. Every rehearsal, mashup, and competition scene was cinematic gold. Their performances had millions of viewers falling in love with show choir music, and yes — they even topped real-world charts. This movie single-handedly turned a cappella into a cultural moment, and gave the ICCAs (International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella competition) a major uprise in ticket sales. I was once in a University a cappella group too, so this one hits close to home... The Wonders from That Thing You Do! (1996) were so convincing, people genuinely thought they were a real '60s band. Their fake one-hit wonder, "That Thing You Do!" became an instant classic — and people love it even 25 years later.
