BTS's Jin is making waves across the globe as his first solo mini album 'Echo' breaks into the UK's prestigious Official Albums Chart. As reported by Soompi on May 23, Jin secured the No.
63 spot, marking a personal milestone, his very first appearance on the chart as a solo artist.
While Jin has previously made entries on the Official Singles Chart with his past solo efforts, this is the first time his full album has earned a spot on the Official Albums Chart, widely considered the UK's equivalent to Billboard's rankings in the United States. It's a major move that further proves his power as an individual performer beyond BTS.
Alongside the album's charting success, Jin's title track 'Don't Say You Love Me' is also drawing major attention. The track entered the Official Singles Chart at No. 58—no small feat in the highly competitive UK market. What's more impressive is the song's immediate dominance across multiple other charts. It debuted at No. 1 on the Official Singles Sales Chart, the Official Singles Downloads Chart, and the Official Physical Singles Chart.

Sanjay Mishra: One has to accept, there is a shortage of good scripts

With a career spanning over three decades, veteran actor Sanjay Mishra choose to once again tap into his love for theatre and plays, with Ghasiram Kotwal. The actor who was recently seen in Son Of Sardaar 2 returned to theatre with the play in which he plays the role of Nana Phadnavis. "I feel honored to be back performing in front of a live audience with such a show which is considered to be a very profound play," says Sanjay, adding, "If you play cricket and you get to play in Lords ground, what can be better than that! That's how I am feeling with this role." Sanjay Mishra Ask him what made him decide about his return to plays, Sanjay says, "I am keen to play different characters. With plays, you instantly connect with the audience. The thrill and pressure to perform in front of live audience can't be described, only felt. In films, you can take multiple takes. If something goes wrong, you can redo it. But in theatre, you have to deliver it to every seat. There are lengths for it. A great performance is going on. You have to see it. A director cannot sit in a corner and edit it.' He adds, "My audience loves to see me try my hand at variety of roles. That fuels my focus to keep experimenting and playing different characters which also challenge me. I am an actor who is hungry for work. I don't like boxing myself. But one can't deny the fact, that theatres gives one more scope and area to learn and experiment. With years into my career, I didn't have anything new coming my way which I already have played, so I turned towards theatre." He mentions how he aims to focus on working on his craft so as to perform better on stage. "I am focusing on theatre for now. I want to explore other genres be it on stage or on big screen. As an actor, I am lucky that I get a chance to explore various genre, that filmmakers see that potential in me." Sanjay says, he approached the transition from Marathi to Hindi with caution, aware that much could be 'lost in translation' seeing that the play was originally written and performed in Marathi language in 1972. "One has to try and keep the authenticity intact but I try to break it a little according to my understanding. With any character that you play, which has been played before also, this is the core understanding," says the 61-year-old, adding, "With plays the reactions come instantly. Sometimes you might get a lot of abuses and sometimes people praise you with a standing ovation. It's all a part of the process. Some might like my approach towards the character while some might even criticize. I have learnt to always keep learning." Ask him what has kept him away from OTT, seeing that his last outing on digital platforms was in 2022 Bed Stories which did not manage to create much noise. He says: "My show Office Office was loved by many, even though Shukla Ji is retired, I loved being a part of it. I myself don't understand why I am not getting work on OTT. Having said that, for the past sometime, I have been focusing on films, seeing cinema 2 ghanta ki peshkash hoti hai, jo mujhe passand hai. Sanjay concludes, his thoughts by saying, 'As an actor I can only focus my performance. If my movie does not earn money well, then what can I do? For me, I have tried my best. Also one has to agree, that these days, there's a shortage of good stories. One film works, the filmmakers focus on making sequels. Just because first one worked doesn't assure you the others will too. Some films are ever green and their sequels or remakes can't be made- like Sholay, Mughal-E-Azam. It's not something happening in Bollywood but across globe."

Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari on National Film Awards criticism: There will always be another point of view

Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari became a part of the jury for Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) recently, along with filmmaker Shoojit Sircar, to judge the short films coming into the festival. The filmmaker believes that it is her responsibility to give voice to young storytellers. Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari 'It is very important that we encourage young filmmakers to have a voice and tell different stories, and this is a great platform because it's an intersection of two countries. Once there is a film which has gone on an international platform, it also gives a tick mark to their portfolio,' she says, adding, 'It's my responsibility as a filmmaker that like how I got opportunities, I give opportunities to young filmmakers and also guide them. That's how you will find the next storytellers.' Being a part of a jury comes with its share of challenges as there will be people who won't like you decisions, as it happened with the recently announced National Film Awards. Mention it to her and Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari says, 'Any place where you are in a point of decision, especially when you're in a jury on that level, there will always be another point of view, and you can't help that. There will always be people who will like what you decide and those who won't. Also, it is a cumulative decision, so what happens inside the room and how decisions are made, it's completely a jury's perspective.' Ashwiny adds that she also learns a lot from the younger generation's fresh perspective. 'I think we undermine Gen Z. They're smarter, thoughtful and they ask questions which are important,' she says. Ask her if not recognising the youth's perspective is the reason behind the Hindi films' box office lull and she responds, 'No one knows what works and what doesn't work. If we start telling stories from a perspective to say that 'okay, this is working, now everyone should be making only that kind of film', storytelling doesn't work that way. You just work from your gut. It's subjective, it's not mathematics.' However, she does acknowledge their role. 'The younger audience are the decision makers. They are the ones who are more aware because they also see international cinema. They also drive the decision-making of what to watch in the household. It is important we cater to that audience, but we do also cater to what we feel as storytellers and what stories do we want to make. That is more important because a trend will be here today, but it won't be tomorrow,' she says, elaborating, 'There was a trend of horror, but now that is diminishing. Now it is a trend of love story because one film (Saiyaara) has worked. Tomorrow, it will be something else.' Ashwiny has made films like Bareilly Ki Barfi and Panga. Does she feel art suffers when filmmakers focus more on the commerce of it? 'When we make commercial cinema, there is a number attached to it. We, as responsible filmmakers, need to make sure that when we're making commercial cinema, we are making it from a point of view that we do need to have a return of investment for the producers. But at the same time, we also need to have a balance of creativity and commerce. You cannot have commerce without creativity, and creativity cannot go without commerce,' she replies.

Box office: Coolie (Hindi) collects Rs 18.50 crore in 4 days; Rajinikanth & Lokesh Kanagaraj film scores average results

The Rajinikanth and Lokesh Kanagaraj film, Coolie: The Powerhouse, has scored average results in its opening weekend in Hindi, faring better than the pre-release expectations. The actioner has collected Rs 18.50 crore over its four day run, and the film stayed consistent around the Rs 4.00 crore mark though the weekend. Coolie opened at Rs 4.25 crore on Thursday, followed by a spike to Rs 6.00 crore on Friday, before settling in at Rs 4.00 crore and Rs 4.25 crore on Saturday and Sunday. The national chains – PVRInox and Cinepolis - have collected Rs 8.30 crore over the four day period, contributing 47 percent to the total business. The numbers are decent in Hindi because Coolie had no expectations, however, the trend through four-day period is not encouraging indicating a not-so-strong hold in business on Monday. Coolie will be looking at a lifetime total in the range of Rs 35 crore to Rs 40 crore, as it has one more week of clean run before facing competition from Param Sundari. The film will end up being the second highest grossing Tamil film dubbed in Hindi after 2.0, surpassing films like Robot, Kabali, Vikram, and Leo among others. Having said that, with a start of Rs 4.25 crore, the Rajinikanth starrer could have hit a bigger number in Hindi, but the mixed reports did no good to the theatrical prospects. Here's a look at day wise collections of Coolie (Hindi) Thursday: Rs 4.25 crore Friday: Rs 6.00 crore Saturday: Rs 4.00 crore Sunday: Rs 4.25 crore Total: Rs 18.50 crore Coolie faced competition from War 2 in Hindi markets, and North India is the only area where the Rajinikanth starrer was trailing behind the YRF Spy Universe film, as it dominated the former in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh/Telangana. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates on box office collections of Coolie & War 2.
