Gautam Gambhir Press Conference Live Updates: Team India's new Test captain Shubman Gill, coach Gautam Gambhir to address media today
Gautam Gambhir Press Conference Live Updates: The BCCI has scheduled a pre-departure press conference featuring newly appointed Test captain Shubman Gill and head coach Gautam Gambhir ahead of India's five-Test series in England. This marks captain Gill's first media interaction since being handed the captaincy to India's Test team, taking over from now retired Rohit Sharma.
The five-Test tour of England will require India to play without stalwarts Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who recently announced their retirements from the format, following Ravichandran Ashwin's decision to quit in December 2024.
Head coach Gambhir and Gill will speak to the press ahead of their departure to England, where the first Test will be played at Headingley in Leeds and marks the commencement of the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle.
Gambhir had also engaged with the press ahead of the side's tour of Australia in November last year, but was not joined by the then captain Rohit Sharma. The reason for Rohit's absence was due to the birth of his second child in November, 2024.
India A will play the second unofficial Test against England Lions in Northampton from June 6. Captain Gill will play no part in it.
How to watch Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill's press conference?
The press conference featuring head coach Guatam Gambhir and skipper Shubman Gill will take place at BCCI Headquarters in Mumbai on June 5, 2025, at 7:30pm IST. The live coverage starts at 7:00 PM IST.
The press conference will be streamed live on the JioHotstar website and app.
For viewers watching on TV, the live broadcast will be available on the Star Sports Network (Star Sports 2 and Star Sports 3).
Media representatives will have the opportunity to interact with both the new captain and head coach.
After the first Test at Headingley, Leeds, subsequent matches are scheduled to be played at Edgbaston, Lord's, Old Trafford and The Oval.

Rohit Sharma Reveals Father's Reaction On Test Retirement: 'He Was A Little...'
Last Updated: Rohit Sharma revealed his father was a 'little disappointed' with his Test retirement. Senior India batter Rohit Sharma has revealed that his father, Gurunath, was happy but also 'a little disappointed' when he announced his Test retirement last month. Rohit explained that Gurunath has always appreciated red-ball cricket more than ODIs and T20s, and the longest format has always made him more excited — a love that has only gotten stronger seeing his son go up the ranks to the highest level of the sport. Rohit called off his Test career in the first week of May via an announcement on his Instagram story. Only hours before his decision was made public, reports came through claiming that the BCCI selectors had decided to remove him from Test captaincy ahead of the upcoming five-match series against England in the summer. 'My father has seen me playing a lot of cricket with red ball, obviously," Rohit said at the launch of Cheteshwar Pujara's wife Puja Pujara's book 'The Diary of a Cricketer's Wife' in Mumbai. 'So he appreciates red ball cricket a lot. And then, obviously, he was a little disappointed when I announced my retirement. But was happy as well at the same time. But, yeah, that's my father. And he has obviously played a huge role in wherever I am today. Without their help, it never would have been possible," he added. Rohit revealed that his father was even happier with his cameos in Test cricket than his world-record 264 in an ODI against Sri Lanka in November 2014. 'My father worked in a transport company. Like I said, what my mom did, my father was very much involved in sacrificing things so that we could have our life. But my father always, since day one, has been a fan of Test cricket. He doesn't like this new-age cricket. I still remember that day I scored 264 in the ODI. He was like, okay, well played. Well done. There was no excitement from him. It's important to go out there and all that. But even if I used to get good 30s or 40s or 50s or 60s, in Test cricket used to talk to me about it in detail. So that's the kind of love he had for the game," he added. Rohit retired with 4301 runs from 67 Tests. His family was present — and in tears — when a stand named after him at the Wankhede Stadium was unveiled in a grand ceremony on May 17. First Published: June 06, 2025, 13:11 IST
