Anurag Kashyap Calls Dhadak 2 A 'Punch In The Gut', Hails Karan Johar For 'Brave' Film
Anurag Kashyap praised Dhadak 2, highlighting India's reality beyond urban bubbles. It stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, and explores caste discrimination.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has showered glowing praise on Dhadak 2, calling it 'the most searing mainstream debut" he's seen in a long time. The film, backed by Karan Johar, stars Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri in lead roles.
Taking to Instagram, Anurag Kashyap applauded director Shazia Iqbal for holding up a mirror to the reality of India beyond urban bubbles. 'In what is the most searing mainstream debut that I have seen in a very very long time @shaz.3.0 holds a mirror to us of what India really is outside of our bubble that we live in . Aided by terrific performances from @tripti_dimri @siddhantchaturvedi @saurabhsachdeva77 @saadcasm_ @priyanktiwarii @itsharishkhanna @manjiripupala @vipin.sta and writing with #badwelkar , brilliantly shot by @sylvesterfonseca (sic)," he wrote.
The filmmaker continued, 'The film captures the conversation that we avoid on a day yo day basis . This is what mainstream cinema was meant to be, and this is what great filmmakers like Raj Kapoor, Bimal Roy, Guru Dutt, K A Abbas , B R Chopra , Yash Chopra and so many used to do. We forgot to make mainstream films of social relevance . They got relegated to independent art house cinema. This is what Tamizh cinema and so much of cinema from south still does."
Sharing a personal moment, he mentioned his driver was moved to tears by the film and hasn't stopped talking about it since. 'A mainstream adaptation of Periyarum Perumal, without losing the essence of it, Dhadak 2 is a punch in the gut. My driver who went with me wept at the end of it and hasn't stopped talking since," he further explained. Take a look:

Concluding his post, Kashyap hailed the film as 'extremely brave and powerful," and congratulated the entire team, including producer Karan Johar and the Dharma Movies banner, for backing such a courageous project.
Dhadak 2 clashed with Son of Sardaar 2 at the box office on August 1. The film earned an estimated Rs. 3.35 crore net in India. The film is set against the backdrop of a law college, and follows the journey of a young student who falls in love with his classmate, only to be met with brutal resistance from her family due to caste differences. Directed by Shazia Iqbal and produced by Dharma Productions, Zed Studios, and Cloud 9 Pictures, this poignant romantic drama explores the harsh realities of caste-based discrimination, love in defiance of social norms, and the courage it takes to resist. The result is a raw, deeply affecting cinematic experience that doesn't shy away from uncomfortable truths.
