Zakat beneficiaries won't get 'Eidi' for the first time
The Rawalpindi district Zakat office has approved an increase in financial assistance for deserving individuals, raising the monthly subsistence allowance by Rs500 and the dowry fund for underprivileged girls by Rs75,000.
Despite this increase, for the first time in Punjab's history, 10,000 deserving individuals in the Rawalpindi Division will not receive financial aid on Eidul Fitr, dampening their festive celebrations. As a result, the monthly aid for widows and destitute families has been increased from Rs1,500 to Rs2,000, while the dowry fund has been raised from Rs25,000 to Rs100,000.
The district Zakat office and 1,166 local Zakat committees in Rawalpindi have informed beneficiaries that Eid gifts will not be distributed this year.
Many who had been visiting Zakat offices in anticipation of receiving Eid assistance have been left disappointed.
According to the Zakat Committee Administrator, Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema's office, funds amounting to Rs2.4 billion have been allocated for Rawalpindi's deserving families.
However, due to time constraints, it is impossible to distribute the Eid gifts before Eidul Fitr.
Instead, all beneficiaries will receive a lump sum of Rs24,000 per family for the entire year under the newly increased Rs2,000 monthly allowance. The lists of eligible recipients have been finalized, and the distribution of these funds will begin from April 7 to April 14.
Additionally, visually impaired individuals across the district will also receive Rs24,000 annually, disbursed at Rs2,000 per month.

Sacrifice pool prices rise in line with animal costs
The cost of each share of collective or pool sacrifice has also increased with the hike in the price of the sacrificial animals. Bulls, cows and camels have seven shares in sacrifice for the Eidul Azha. That is why a large number of citizens are opting for collective sacrifice. He said that due to the high cost of animals, the share of collective sacrifice has also increased from Rs3,000 to Rs10,000. He said that various madaris, mosques and welfare organisations have introduced various packages of collective sacrifice. The share which was Rs20,000 to Rs25,000 or less last year has increased to Rs28,000 or more this year.

Zardari roots for broad national consensus
President Asif Ali Zardari has said the country urgently needs political stability and broad national consensus, stressing that all democratic forces must work together to ensure progress and prosperity. During a meeting with senior party leader Barrister Aamir Hasan in Lahore, President Zardari said public service should be kept uppermost, adding every individual and group will have to play their role to resolve public issues. The president urged youth to step forward for the country's progress. He called for a uniform strategy to make Pakistan economically vibrant. They discussed the problems of labourers and government employees, and exchanged views on increasing the minimum wage by 50 per cent in the upcoming budget. Chaudhry Manzoor proposed that the minimum wage be increased to Rs50,000 and EOBI pensions by 100 per cent. Zardari expressed hope that the government will consider the welfare of labourers and workers as a top priority in the budget. He said society cannot progress without giving relief to labourers.
