Lucid shows off fast charging tech for upcoming Gravity SUV
The Lucid Gravity SUV might just take EV charging to the next level. Not only does it include a NACS charging port and access to the Tesla Supercharger network starting on January 31, but Lucid's new technology will allow it to charge quickly, even at slower stations.
Lucid detailed in a press release how the Gravity uses innovative patented technology to boost the charging voltage of 500V stations to match its 926V battery pack. A similar feature is available on the Lucid Air, which upconverts lower power coming from a charger to 900V and downconverts its own power to power other devices or charge another vehicle.This technology also allows the SUV to take advantage of a station's maximum charging output while reducing cable heat.
'Lucid Gravity offers next-level fast charging speeds and seamless access to the top charging networks, including Tesla Superchargers and Electrify America,' said Emad Dlala, VP of Powertrain at Lucid. 'To enable this experience for our customers, we developed new, unique technology to allow the 926V Lucid Gravity to charge seamlessly at up to 400 kW on 1000V charging equipment and at sustained speeds of up to 225 kW on 500V architecture fast chargers, including Tesla V3 Superchargers.'
At peak charging rates, the Lucid Gravity can reportedly add up to 200 miles in less than 12 minutes.
For customers without access to a native NACS charger, the Gravity will come standard with CCS1 to NACS and SAE J1772 to NACS adapters. According to Lucid, the CCS1 adapter will be the first on the market to charge at 500A with 1000V. That same adapter is also able to charge at up to 400 kW at a CCS1 fast charger.The Gravity's battery pack is produced in partnership with Panasonic and features "chemistry enhancements" that should put it in a league of its own. Lucid claims that it can handle sustained higher-power charging without overheating, tow better than its competitors, and last for up to an EPA-estimated 450 miles.
The electric SUV will also feature bi-directional charging, allowing owners to charge their homes or other devices at a rate of up to 80 A at 19.2 kW with the NACS charge port. RangeXchange, a feature first introduced on the Lucid Air, also enables charging another electric vehicle directly with the optional RangeXchange cable.Lucid has always made gorgeous-looking cars, albeit with a fitting price tag. In this case, too, the automaker has done a great job of transforming the Air sedan into the Gravity SUV, complete with that classy yet minimalistic interior.

The Lucid Gravity Grand Touring is available to order starting at $94,900, and Touring models will be available in late 2025 at a starting price of $79,900. The first Gravity completed production at Lucid's Casa Grande factory on December 5, 2024, so deliveries will likely begin early this year.

Lucid signs US graphite supply deal for EV batteries

Lucid Group has signed a second agreement with Graphite One for U.S.-sourced materials needed for lithium-ion batteries as the electric car maker seeks to strengthen its domestic supply chain, according to a June 4 press release. The latest agreement will provide Lucid and its battery cell suppliers with natural graphite from the Graphite Creek deposit north of Nome, Alaska, where Graphite One expects to begin production in 2028, per the release. The deal complements a 2024 pact in which Graphite One agreed to provide Lucid and its battery cell suppliers with graphite processed for use in battery anodes, starting in 2028, the release said. The active anode material (AAM) would come from Graphite One's planned plant in Warren, Ohio. Lucid has increased U.S.-based battery-electric-vehicle production as part of its strategy for weathering tariff uncertainty. Executives have highlighted the company's efforts to localize critical supplies, including the transition to Panasonic's Kansas battery facility and the sourcing of domestic graphite through partnerships with Graphite One and Syrah Resources. Beginning next year, Syrah will supply AAM from its production facility in Vidalia, Louisiana, under a three-year deal with Lucid, per the release. "A supply chain of critical materials within the United States drives our nation's economy, increases our independence against outside factors or market dynamics, and supports our efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of our vehicles," Lucid interim CEO Marc Winterhoff said in the release. Establishing supplier networks to build EV batteries has been a trend encompassing both traditional automakers and EV-only makers, such as Lucid. For example, Nissan Motor Corp and SK On signed a battery deal in March. The previous deal between Lucid and Graphite One is a non-binding supply agreement, pending Graphite One's commencement of AAM graphite production at the Ohio facility, according to the Canadian company's annual Management's Discussion and Analysis document, filed in April. The plant is Graphite One's first AAM factory, CEO Anthony Huston told Supply Chain Dive. If successful, the Lucid and Graphite One partnership would establish a U.S. source of graphite materials for EV batteries for the carmaker. However, Hunan Chenyu Fuji New Energy Technology, an AAM manufacturer based in Changsha, China, would play a critical role in supporting the partnership. Graphite One signed a technology licensing agreement and a consulting agreement with Chenyu last October, according to the MD&A document. Chenyu agreed to assist in the design, construction and operation of the Ohio facility. Additionally, Chenyu would receive quarterly royalties for its technology used in AAM manufacturing. Graphite One turned to Chenyu for the technology because it doesn't exist in the U.S., Huston said. 'There's no technology in the United States,' Huston said. 'And the reason why is because we haven't had it [graphite production] for 34 years. Once you stop producing something, you lose the ability to have the know-how, and the understanding, and the actual processing side that surrounds it.' 2026 Lexus RZ Updates Revealed, Everything You Need to Know
Three years after introducing its first electric vehicle, Lexus has upgraded the RZ for the 2026 model year, making this sleek SUV a more worthy competitor. It will now come as the 221-horsepower RZ 350e with front-wheel drive, the 308-horsepower RZ 450e with all-wheel drive, and the new, range-topping 402-horsepower RZ 550e F Sport also with all-wheel drive. The three models reportedly have 0-60 mph times of 7.2 seconds, 4.9 seconds, and 4.2 seconds, respectively. Range has also increased, with Lexus quoting 300 miles for the RZ 350e FWD, 260 miles for the RZ 450e AWD with 18-inch tires, and 225 miles on the new RZ 550e F SPORT AWD with 20-inch tires. The RZ now sports a North American Charging System charging port on the passenger side for charging at Tesla Superchargers. Filling the battery pack from 10% to 80% requires about 30 minutes using a DC fast charger. If more power is at the top of your checklist, the RZ 550e F Sport is for you, albeit at the expense of range. Interestingly, Lexus has fitted its trim-topping model with M Mode, a virtual gearbox that simulates manual gear shifting via paddle shifters. If this sounds familiar, that's because Ferrari and Hyundai already have it. The RZ 550e F Sport also wears the appropriate go-fast attire, with a black emblem, rear spoiler, front and rear bumper moldings, front grille, and 20-inch wheels. Its cabin proves equally sweet, lined in black Ultrasuede with blue stitching and with a panoramic glass roof, aluminum pedals and footrests, and an F Sport steering wheel. While the new Lexus RZ's upgrades help keep it competitive, the automaker's plan to build it in Japan means that it won't be eligible for a federal tax credit, should that survive the onslaught by Congress. Then again, Lexus hasn't released pricing yet, promising to do so closer to the 2026 Lexus RZ's on-sale date. Currently, the 2025 RZ starts at $43,795 and tops out at $58,605 with lower range figures, but given the specter of tariffs, those prices will likely increase. So far, at least, it seems like the 2026 Lexus RZ's longer range and higher performance should be well worth the wait, along with what is likely to be a higher price.
